Not in the garage, but:

Woke up yesterday morning to no hot water. Water heater (only 5 years old) had let go. Called Rheem, got warranty approval, unhooked the heater, hauled it up the basement stairs and took it to Home Depot for warranty replacement (pro-rated, f-u Rheem), hauled the new one down the basement stairs and installed it, got hot solder on my finger, but had a nice hot shower at the end of it all.

This had to happen on the same day I was booked to play a two and a half hour lunchtime gig at a local bar and grill, so all the water heater stuff had to be worked in around that, and I also had music gear to lug in and out of the house and in and out of the bar.

Today I am achey.

Derusting some Ax heads, E-rust and USC is doing the heavy lifting.

Fixed the Drivers side window motor in the T-van. bad armature getting the entire motor out was a giant hassle so I replaced the armature in situ. Still a hassle but not as bad. I'l suss out the bad one, as I't may not be shot... or it may be...

Meanwhile I should get spares while I can for this 37 YO beast, now I know how to get the damn window out.

But I did clean up the mess. On to other tasks...

Replaced both air filters and all 4 spark plugs in mom’s Camry. With my employee discount the plugs were $10 each and the filters $15 each. Normally I don’t bother with OEM plugs because they are nothing special but these were cheaper than anything else. Also changed the oil in it as well. Next week got to do tire rotation and rear brakes on it. I don’t buy Toyota brake pads at all because they are too cheap to include the hardware and shims and it’s $35 extra employee price for a hardware and shim kit.

Started on a long gun rack for the T-van. Not done and man "modern vehicles" make it difficult to have a rifle or shotgun in arms reach of driver /passenger... (this is for while actually hunting folks...). I also need a holster/scabbard for the Single shot Thompson Contender I use for deer... 🤔 In my lap while driving sometimes gets precarious.

As I had mentioned, I managed to bend the **** out of my outer shop bottom door tube (fabric roll up 16 wide x 12 high tube is 2" schd 40 galv) a good foot out of straight. While I could straighten in my 20T press, it is a bit on the heavy side to move from it's NE corner to the S central bay door where there would be room to pass such a long pipe through the press. So, I took the pipe and its 16'rollup handle (also bent, but not from this incident) out to the farm where I could pick my 100 ton with crane that covers the whole middle floor (between to sea cans) and put it in center of floor near door. once I set it, it occurred to me the only thing "wrong" about this press was that it wasn't a clear shot side-to-side to be able to straighten shafts, etc. Figured a day or two of cutting and welding were in the works, then it became clear that all I had to do on the left side was loosen the winch cables and slide them out of the way, and on the right side move the hydraulic pump and reservoir from in the way to out front on the operating side with a couple of simple extensions. In this position I could put a pair of angle iron "rockers" in the V blocks and use a piece or 3" channel for the ram to press on. Made a 6" extension by facing off an offcut of 2" schd 160 pipe to avoid the time to fully extend the ram (used hand pump instead of air so grandson/operator could feel what he was doing to bend. we easily got the bottom rollup bar withing a half inch end-to-end and the crankshaft much closer than it was.

Took apart the valve body for the C6, came in and watched Seahawk game (I always DVR it so I can fast forward through the commercials and bs), went out and put shift kit in and assembled valve body. Will reinstall after I replace the shift rod seal. Hopefully it went together correctly, was a first for me.

Hope you remember where the check balls came from.

Cut the rust out of the rocker panel:
This is a tough decision I will have to make soon. My DD/farm chore truck/main small tow vehicle is a 2003 Ram 3500 xt cab, and the bottom of the car all around is rotting away. Options are to do what you are doing, or have my buddy in SLC find a rust free cab and bring it home. Waiting for vehicle prices to crash before making final choice.

How are you handling welding? Spotted in, MIG, ??? Then what about sealing and further rust protection? I am simply not a body guy so pretty much ignorant on the finer points. Funny thing: I clearly remember being 18 and knowing everything about everything. 57 years later I am starting to realize I don't/didn't!

Apparently the low tire pressure in the wife's car yesterday was actually a nail.

So she took my truck to work so I could put the spare on her car.

Then I picked the truck up from her work so I could drive across town for my son's Dr appointment.

After his appointment I get to go swap vehicles again so I can take her car to get the tire patched.

Fun.

I'm cutting the rust out and amd going to use my mig machine to spot weld the replacement panels in. Probably going to be a mix of spot welds and rosette welds.
