A 23/32" drill bit. That's the pilot size for a 1/2" pipe thread. I bought the pipe tap set the other day. Mostly for cleanup but I need to thread an aluminum 1-gang box for three *******. It'll be used as a junction for some low-voltage lighting. The conduit pair coming out of the ground has been in place for years and the current transformer sits over them. The new transformer is much shorter and I want to use the same mount points. The 1-gang box will fill the gap and I'll have a single outlet on the top.

Oh yes two of my parcel forwarding packets arrived.
Let's start with Taiwan. Bought this Mac tools unused second hand triple square set for 25 euros.

1725951296808.jpeg

And got this Mac ratcheting screwdrive & bit set for 65 euros. Opened, but unused.

IMG_4979.jpg

And I got this used Mac air drill

1725954660689.jpeg

Then from local hardware store I bought this. Not because I need it or want it, but I wanted to use it to practice sanding and polishing the head.
1725951578344.jpeg
It had huge low spot in the middle. So I wouldn't recommended cheaping out with body hammers. I got it better, but still needs sanding and polishing
1725951655755.jpeg1725951711108.jpeg

Then from World Import tools, Japan I got these Air swivel connectors

1725952177118.jpeg

Got this 2nd hand Japanese roloc sander. It comes with 1" 1,5" and 2" disc holders.
1725954732215.jpeg

Then I got these Morimitsu sheet metal chisels. The smallest sizes are like toys, but others are usable for fabrication purposes.

I got this made in Japan Mokuba panel splitting chisel

Next few items might cause some rage, but I got some old Snap-on body hammers. I wanted to buy new bf604b, but Snap-on guy couldn't get it and Snap-on removed it from their website. It came back few days later. But by then I had bought these:

1725955362282.jpeg
1725955389500.jpeg
1725955415654.jpeg

Then I got this Snap-on low-profile 9mm to fill a void in my 8-19mm set.
1725955440981.jpeg

I got this display item for 125 euros
1725955490410.jpeg

and I got used Snap-on low profile 3/8 ratchet, because it was cheap.

Knipex, Gedore and a KT arrival

-Gedore Nr7 15 and 16mm - a step closer to a no skips Nr7 , I need an 11 lmm and an 18mm
-Knipex 88 01 250 , needed to change the O rings on the kitchen faucet spout and used a pipe wrench , what a mission as the area to grip on was small and a pipe wrench moves too much. This saw me run a small scratch on the chrome , these Knipex should make the next one easier.
-King tony 34mm 12 point. I dont have a reason for buying this.

I've also ordered a 24pc Gedore red set off amazon , I've been avoiding Gedore red like the plague since it launched but I haven't actually used or seen any of it for myself so I figured I'd order the 24pc set on amazon as it dipped to a little below $100.
At this rate, I think I might soon own wrenches and sockets from every Gedore series

I ordered these after returning the slippy-handle Channellock Torx drivers:

I've never tried Olsa before, but at least it's an actual brand, with a presence outside of the Amazon alphabet-soup jumble of fly-by-night Chinese brands. There are quite a few positive YT reviews of the brand out there. Reviews compare the handle shape to Wera.

They're made in Taiwan. Wish it was USA, but at least it isn't China or Pakistan, and all the recent Taiwan tools I have are pretty decent. And for $27 for a full set T6 to T45, all they have to be is decent. They're expected Monday.

Well, here they are:

photo_2024-09-11_09-59-23.jpg

It's a nice presentation, and that tray could be a good addition to a toolbox drawer. Not sure if I'll use the tray or make one of my screwdriver racks.

Overall they seem quite nice. Handles are super comfortable and grippy. Shafts are all straight to the handles, which is a particular peeve of mine when they're not. (I returned a set of screwdrivers to Channellock once for crookedly-mounted handles and made them replace the set.)

I repaired a Bosch dishwasher yesterday, which required a lot of disassembly/reassembly, and all the screws have the same head size (smart, Bosch), so the T20 Olsa driver got a few hours of testing. Very easy to get good torque on the screws. The coating on the tip is already wearing:

photo_2024-09-11_10-01-52.jpg

But that's just the coating; the metal seems fine:

photo_2024-09-11_10-01-52 (2).jpg

The tip had good grip on the screws. I was always able to put a screw on the tip and carry it to the work without it falling off, and there was no appreciable slop when turning a screw.

At one point I had to wedge the driver into a tight space where a metal edge was scraping on the handle, and I was surprised it didn't damage the rubber.

I didn't do anything that would be considered hard use, but for this initial appliance repair task, I'm pleased.

Added a woodworking bench to my shop. Six hundred bucks used off FB Marketplace. $1200 new shipped from Grizzly, so not a killer deal but an OK one. Photos are after 1 1/2 hrs of sanding and 3 coats of wipe-on polyurethane to freshen up the top. Will never be mistaken for a Sjoberg, but should be adequate for my needs.
Good looking bench for $600.

Very happy with this Vessel wood grip set. Nut/screw driver is 1/4 drive while ratchet is 3/8 in compact 1/4 body.

Extremely nice case with all spots labeled and dual color foam. Bought to have as a supplement tool kit to the stock one in my Lexus GX. Fits right in the rear door compartment and straps in.

Picked up a couple things on the truck. Ratchet is the 3/8” in the 1/4” body.IMG_5959.jpeg
I have that same roto ratchet with the 3/8 anvil in a 1/4 body. You will like it. Low backdrag and gets in tight spaces very well with all the usual advantages of a roto ratchet. It is one of my most used. I am not crazy about the soft grip handle and do not see the need for that with modest torque applications -- but I am too lazy to replace it with something hard.

Bought this Milwaukee 1/4 drive power ratchet off the guy who works next to me. $50. I’ve needed a 1/4 so much and he was going to trade this in on the Matco truck yesterday but I was like hey I’ll buy it. It’s older but heck I needed it and it’s still cheaper than you can get a new one for and he included a battery so heck yeah.

I'd been eyeing the 12V MAX Bosch tools my Tractor Supply had on clearance for a couple of months. Well, during last week's feed run, the drill went on sale for $65, so I snagged it. Made in 2021, and I expected two duds for batteries--only one didn't charge, and it's covered under warranty. Weird thing was that it was the boxed battery, not the one in the tool.

Plenty of power for the small size, and probably the best speed control out of any drill I've ever used (except my ratcheting braces).

KIMG0914.JPG

I don't know if they'll have the impact or not, but the mini reciprocating saw is next if it gets another $20 knocked off it like the drill. My grandmother has the 15 year old Hitachi 12V stuff (kinda underpowered, but still chugging along), and I've got 12V Hyper Tough (which surprisingly has held up for being the cheapest 12V around) and 20V Craftsman hanging around. I think I may sell/trade my two and standardize on Bosch.

Tomorrow, I'll go to the FedEx store and have them box-up the dud battery for its warranty trip to AR.

I needed a set of Klein Koat grips for a pair of old pliers, but dreaded having to go to the part of town where the nearest electrical supply is located.

Thus, I made a Zoro order.

After a long process of soaking them in hot water and smacking the grips against the kitchen counter, they're on (hopefully for quite some time).

The pliers are a pair of 1970s era Proto 267s my Granddad gave me as a teenager after years of use in the mines and on the farm. They've taken a beating, and are still going strong. I had taken a pair of grips from a cheap pair of pliers, but they were extremely thin and provided next to no cushioning. I like the 7" size as it's still pocket-friendly in my leg pocket, but big enough to get decent leverage with.

KIMG0922.JPG

Also, the 125mm Pliers Wrench.

I've been debating them ever since I bought the 125mm Cobras in 2017. Honestly, I wish I'd gotten them 7 years earlier, as they don't mess up bolts and nuts, are less fiddly than a small Crescent wrench, and are more versatile--heck, I think I can retire the Cobras now.

May still end up getting the 4" or 6" Snap-On Flank Jaw pliers, though. They do have a cutter--great for rebar tie wire and quick fencing repairs without my full fencing bag.

EDIT: I missed that you were referring to a separate item ("extra" bits), thought you were referring to those included in the set with the driver.

I may not have picked up that difference when ordering, either.

I solved the problem. WERA makes a bit adapter the works with ANY length ****. I need to upload a picture. Maybe tomorrow. The WERA bit holder works great and sort of fits in the case. German design... Made in the Chek Republic

DRPD order arrived. Ratchets are compact 3/8” Phillips drivers complete the set (already have #2 and 3.IMG_5935.jpeg

Would love to know your thoughts on the Nepros screwdrivers. Lonestar Mopars on YT was gushing about how good the handle grips are. I would like to get the whole set, but looking for opinions.

50 years in use and you never ruined the cutters on a live wire. :) Impressive.
