I saw this Cornwell at the flea this morning. $40 for everything. I checked the box out and it was originally red. Draws worked. Both stays for the lid were missing. Lock was missing. Minor surface rust in some areas. No big dents.

That looks a lot like this one I picked up last weekend. The general consensus is that this is a Kennedy.

I bought this by accident on ebay a few years ago. If anyone knows vintage or anything else I'd be interested to know how old it is. it has raised lips at the corners suggesting it was meant to be stacked on top of another box.

KR 550B ('81) and KR 555B ('85) handed down to me by my grandfather:

These were my great-grandfathers and I have no clue what make they are. There aren't any manufacturer markings, just ID plates my GG added. He worked on the rail road for 50 years and was always making stuff, so they could be handmade for all I know.

Here are some of mine. The first is my roll-around. Top box is Proto, bottom box is Kennedy. I don't know anything about them (estate sale).

Update -- I was cleaning up the Proto today and found a data of 02-78 stamped in it. Haven't found anything on the Kennedy yet....

I have not been around here for a while (crazy busy time of year) but I had to show you guys this before I sell it. It is in incredible shape. The drawer fronts were the only thing that was worn, so I repainted them. I sanded them and masked around it only to find out that I was out of gloss black spray bombs. I sprayed them silver instead and I really like the results.

Very Nice. I have the same top box and have been looking for a bottom box to match it. Do they say "Made in Canada" on the back? I think this is the second one of that Snap-On box combination that you have had for sale. I wish we lived closer together!

Yeah these are made in Canada. I have even passed on a few of these boxes, they must have been good sellers in their day. I would keep them but right now I have no room to store it. It came with a ton of vintage alignment tools and some misc stuff that I didn't have. One day when things get back to normal, I will post pics of all that I have found. I may not be on here much right now but I am still on the prowl for cool old tools.

Thanks for the info. That's a good looking box combo. I like the silver.

Here's my semi-retred Rem Line...

slowtwitch,

Love the Rem Line boxes. That's a real working stack!

Do you know if any of the Rem Line roll cabs had drawers all the way to the bottom (instead of the bulk storage area)? Also did they make a full depth (18") top chest?

This has been at the flea market for 2 weekends. Fake wood grain makes me want to get a Pinto. When I got home I found it in my early 1970s Craftsman catalogs.

Since the guy wants $100 I think I will see it at the flea market again next weekend.

That thing is awsome, ive got the portable chest version out in the garage, but its beat.

mjozefow,

Thanks for the info. I'm going to keep a lookout for one with lots-o-drawers.

Its a sweet box, I'll try to dig up some pics. I personally love the look, and wish they made a bigger set than the 26" or whatever.

It has a lot of narrow drawers.

I'll post up a few I have...

This Indestro socket set box I have no idea on the date.. picked it up at a Pawn Shop awhile back. Gave the guy $3 for it. Thought it was too cool to pass up!

indestrobox1.jpg

I posted this one recently as a new find... just a little S/O tin marked '80 on the bottom. Designed for a 1/4" service set.

kra255-2.jpg

kra255-3.jpg

This one I snagged of CL... date is '56... I have no clue what I'll end up using it for but way too cool to pass up. The front section of the bottom slide out drawer has pegs for 1/4" sockets.

This is one of my most prized possessions. This box was a constant in my life; always on my Dad's bench wherever we lived. The letter tells the story. Dad passed last year at age 85.

The coolest thing was all the old hardware that it contains. The drafting set is my Dad's from his days at Yale.

There were also lots of wring blocks and other specialized stuff that I keep elsewhere. I'm really happy to have this.

I know how you feel. About 20 years ago my dad told me he wanted me to get his old planer and table saw. I said you might need it and resisted getting it. That went back and forth a month or so and finally he told me this. He wasn't going to use them due to his hands and the shape they were in. He also told me the way my sister was always needy and wanting something that I might not get any inheritance. He said he was afraid she would go through everything they had. After that I got it. I still have them and he has been gone about 7 years. I cleaned up their place after he passed away. My mom wanted the trailers and a few other things he had sold. There was a lot that needed fixing and such she said just throw away. I got some of the stuff she wanted thrown away and brought home. I fixed up a hand drill, skill saw, shaper, lathe and a few other items. My nephew was getting ready to toss the saw in the scrap pile and I stopped him and said I wanted it. He asked why would I want it since it didn't work? I said just because it was his and I remembered him using it.I took it apart, cleaned it up and put a new cord it. Works just fine. Items like these may not mean much to others but for the people who were family who had them the stuff is important.

Took this photo to cover the peg board, hammer and vintage box thread.

Note: Seems as a lot of boxes are passed on. That a damn good thing !!

Anyway my modest home boxes are all vintage, it seems.
The C man was bought when we purchased our first house in League City, Tx. When I moved home to Florida, my brother passed on my dad’s old roller.
I believe it was is a Cornwell, unfortunately, I threw out the front cover many years ago. I replaced the castors and have had no problem with it.
My winter project is the Cornwell top box I picked up for $30. It is sitting on a nice file cabinet (non vintage) that I threw a base on and added some cheap HF castors. I gain a lot of storage space with that.
Also added a small Mac side box I obtained for $20. I haven’t been able to read the date, but am pretty sure it's vintage also.
It's not that I needed the side box, but definitely wanted it.

Forgot the wooden box I am restoring:

Does this count as vintage? Dunno how old it is, but I inherited it from my great grandfather. Its got a bit of wear and the slides don't move all that freely but I do still use it. Would definitely like to resto it at some point if I could get the slides to move real nice. I keep my old Fleet 1/2" Drive set and some various impacts and swivel sockets in the top.

Chris, see my post 2 up from yours. I have the same Cornwell box, mine has a newspaper clipping underneath the bottom drawer from the mid 50's.
So, I believe you are pretty safe calling yours vintage.

Slides: there are a couple of threads that talk about them, I used a cut down hacksaw blade to get the drawers out so I could clean and lube the slides.

The Remline tool box is from the mid 70s. I got one from my parents for a high school graduation gift in 1976. Mine looks exactly the same except smaller.

I'm not sure of the years of these boxes, but I'm pretty sure they are old enough to qualify. Bought this set off craigslist for $200 from a retired auto body guy. The boxes lived their entire lives just outside a paint booth until he retired, and were covered in over-spray.

I cleaned them up the best I could, and lubed the slides. ...they work great!

Forgive the clutter, I'm in the middle of insulating my garage, and the place is a mess! :lol_hitti

I need to find a replacement arm:

Can anyone tell me what the spring(s) are for? It has one, as shown, I'm guessing it's a replacement for something, somewhere on the chest? ...maybe in the broken arm???

...and the old pull handle on the roller. I love the old cast Matco handles.

I agree.. and for $20. NICE! I've been looking for one of those "mini" side boxes for awhile. I know a few people on here who have variations on them from different manufacturers... never seen one with a door though.

20 bucks was a steal on that box.

Here's my old SO setup. The top box was stolen out of my garage several years ago, hence the Cman box up there. I guess they couldn't budge the rest of it. It's in dire need of a repaint, but I decided to put it up for sale and let the next owner paint it the way they want. Wish I had the time.

That's a very cool box Don; shame someone stole the top chest! :(

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a box to restore (and may restore the one I have); there's something very rewarding about bringing something back to a "like new" condition. :)

I definitely wish I had the time, but I have come to the conclusion a long time ago that I'll never get to the thousands of projects I have lined up before the box goes into the hole, so I might as well pare down on my projects and complete what I can so I can someday enjoy some sort of retirement.
