Did a landfill run. Loaded all my shop trash/debris, then loaded what I had hoped to be "all" the debris from the new place, but I was nowhere close. I stuffed the truck to the top of the cap and I still probably have another truckload of debris. Oh well, at least the shop is clean, and the new place is half clean, lol.

Just in time to demo the living room and make another truckload of debris too. It never ends.

We take the wife's vehicle somewhere once a week so that I can drive it and listen for noises.
I have my wife trained to tell me if something doesn't feel or sound right with her vehicle so I can look at it hopefully saving us from a large repair bill. It has worked so far for 37 1/2 years & counting.

Why? You just lift the wire with your placer as you pump the concrete. It's not like he's building a skyscraper.
The wire will most likely settle out. Why bother with any "reinforcement" at all if it is not going to be placed where in theory it can be fed a tensile load? (in fact it doesn't, but that is another story altogether and why fiber makes a lot of sense).

I've never had the wire settle out. I pull it a touch above halfway, and after screeding, etc, it seems to always wind up a touch under halfway. At least the wire has been there every time I've had to cut a slab I've set. Now, if I'm doing big rebar, then I'll do chairs.

Finally got around to building some hold-downs for the anvil. It was fine just sitting there, but every time I wanted to move it, I had to move the anvil, then move the stand, then put the anvil back on it. Now that it's fixed on the stand, I'm starting to think about putting the whole thing on wheels. Haven't decided yet.

Refueled the UTV (Kubota RTV900) and tractor, and prepped them for the upcoming winter storm.

Dear John Deere engineers (well, probably Yanmar, as they built the 3038e)--why must you put the dipstick in a nearly-inaccessible location? You know, it's a thing the operator is supposed to check regularly.

The hole is near impossible to see once it's out. It's nestled deep behind the filters in the bottom of the block, and difficult to reach with the loader on. It took removing the side panel, a lot of pinpointing with my flashlight, and a ton of swear words.

I figured taking a photo would help me later on, but still, yikes. I liked our old 5400 better. We still have it, but it's on long-term loan to a family friend in the next town over.

The model was changed in 2015, and this one sat on the lot a couple years before it was bought in 2017. I wonder if relocating the fuel tank to the back freed up some space in the engine bay. Maybe they put the dipstick in a reasonable spot, but I doubt it.

Repeat customer asked if I could make a steel portrait after he saw a picture of my shop with one I made myself of my dog.

His image he provided -

Now, I don't advertise this kind of work because I never learned photo editing or graphic design at all.

End result -

I don't paint since I don't have the room, patience, or know-how. I just make fabricate parts and assemblies.

He said he'll deal with painting it. It's a surprise gift for Christmas for his wife.

One I did last year for another customer. He recorded a video of his wife opening the box and she broke down in tears right away cause she loved it so much.

Tried to pry my Doubler/205, just the 205 out to do the doubler bracketry…..no go.

tomorrow is button it all back up then grind the frame notch back a good inch or more. Will fill it all in when the 205 is out.

then it should slide out. Sure did see some brake leaks I need to address too before I start thinking the skid plate of this thing.

hoping to have all the underneath done plus Center console back in before 2nd week of Dec then start on the other little ****.

hell bent to have this unit getting some street miles come spring then onto a trailer in the spring.

I vaguely remember a guy who used to start his bike from the other side using his left leg. It was like a freak show.lol Don’t remember why, maybe a bad knee.
My uncle did this on his 67 Sportster because of his bad right knee. I always expected the kick-stand to fold up on him, but it never did.

I blame my bad right knee on that bike, but it was fun to ride.

I always rode behind him so I could pick up the parts when they fell off.

Yesterday - framed a new piece of wall art and hung it. The car belongs to my old Navy buddy.

Then unboxed a 25 ft. hose and wire wheels and put them to work on the Mustang cleaning the frame and fenderwell. Still need to pull the left fender and clean that side.
Looking good! I plan to completely strip my Trans Am like that........AFTER we finish building our sons house.

Poster makes me flash back to the summers of '61 and '62 - our last 2 years at CFB Picton. Weekends when Dad wasn't home I would ride my bicycle 15 miles to wait for a car or truck to show up so I could ride the ferry to Deseronto's drag strip. We were so close to US that we got all the factory backed teams. '61 cars were a cheater's cookbook, but in '62 the FX class took the really radical cars the heck out of stock classes. Next posting was an artillery base far away from any drag strip, but my attention was turning from Yank tanks to Eurotrash, bikes and airplanes. But I sure missed the level of competition that was straight out of the cover stories of HRM.

I spent a couple hours in the shop working on Christmas trees my daughter requested, a charcuterie board and a couple of knives that will be Christmas gifts...it was raining so hard on the tin roof that I had to wear my bluetooth headphones to hear the music....

Drilled holes in the new winch plate. Set up the bolts and nuts for welding, when the sky stops dribbling. Perverted a HF momentary foot switch to be the removable alternative power switch to the hand switch on the log splitter. Perverted the splitter control box and harness to accept the pedal. Cleaned, flung, put away. A lot. Swept up. Made lists. Tested the new filament fuser.

Started the strut replacement on my wife's 2010 Jetta. What a colossal pain in the ***. I got the first one off, but there isn't enough room to get the new one in without removing the axle and balljoint. Well I broke off 2/3 of the balljoint mounting bolts. So it's on hold again while I wait on a rockauto shipment, lol.

I should have known it was gonna ****, when the first thing to do is take off the windshield cowl/trim to expose the strut tops. You have to remove the wiper arms to get the trim off. Even the wiper arms were stuck so bad I had to use a 2-jaw puller to get them off.

Made a new mess to clean up later. I pulled the left side brakes, lower control arm, coil spring, spindle and sway bar off the Mustang to clean and paint the frame and wheelwell. Coil spring compressor would not fit the inside of the spring, so I had to get creative with the floor jack and ratchet strap to get it out safely. Shop manual says to put the floor jack under the lower control arm and take out the cross bolt through the bushing, then let the jack down. That doesn't work too well with the engine and trans out of the car. So I ran the ratchet strap through the spring to keep it from getting out of control. The upper control arm bushings look pretty bad, so I ordered new upper and lower bushings for both sides.

After a lot of swearing and cutting out more of the boxed frame of my bronco. finally got the Doubler and 205 out for bracketry install of the linkages.

even used my little HeroCut Cut35i for the first time. Now I plan to see if I can upgrade one of the 15amp breakers to 20.

tomorrow is cut out 1 inch forward of the notch, some clean up of the notch work and hope some welding. Then while it’s all out I will clean up some previous welds under there and really tidy up underneath the floor. Maybe also weld in the subframe between link mounts for a flat belly Of this crawler build Even though I plan to see if I can clock up the 205 a inch or so.

getting this thing out also required the use of several prybars, other forms of pushing two surfaces apart, cribbage via some prebuilt camper jack pads for a future camper and two ratchet straps.6C06851E-AC1D-4641-B4D4-AE26F07D1115.jpeg

Been losing a mouse battle in the garage. put down a snap trap with a blink camera, they ate all the bait, put down a glue trap, mouse jumped over it. Put down a second one today, and the mouse did a long jump over both.

Need a motion activated machine gun
Here's a trick to catching rodents. Bait and set out traps. Don't set them. Do this for 3 or 4 days until they get used to taking the bait. Then bait and set them.

I got 3 sheets of 5/8" 4x12' type X (fire rated) drywall on the ceiling today.
Well, one is not screwed up there yet - it's still sitting on the panel lift. But it was time for my afternoon nap so I left it as is.

Have three more 12' and four 10' sheets left to go. If the weather holds I'll be able get the rest up and taped 1st coat with Durabond yet this week.
Working alone, a guy has to come up with various contrivances to get things done.
