Whenever I have to pull the smoker out, it seems it is buried behind stuff or has stuff stacked all around it. Today, before putting it away, I built a little cart out of scraps in the shop. Now, the smoker, the side unit and the bin of chips are all in one spot and easily wheeled out. Also started trying to organize my clamps....one shelf down a couple more to go....

Finished up the majority of the ugly *** Honda Element. Replacing and fixing little things that previous mechanics have messed up along the way. I cannot wait til this thing is off my lift.

The Element is one of the ugliest vehicles we've ever produced. I used to race one up until two months ago. This one in-particular is a ugly POS because whomever has worked on it in the past, should have their hands lopped off.
Fixed those for you.;)

I went through these ratchets I have in my collection and named them so I know what I have and don't have. I collected them from Swap Meets, Flea Markets, Estate Sales and Yard Sales. I didn't pay more than $5 for any of them. I don't use them. There are just stored in a tool box.

Summer tires off of my wife’s car, winter rubber installed. Gave that car a once-over and spent some time cleaning and organizing. Finally cleared off enough space to put the smaller ultrasonic cleaner back in service. I use that one exclusively for evaporust and the pile of rusty sh!t seems to be growing as a result of cleaning and organizing.

Wow! Nice collection. I like and reach for my Craftsman pear heads. I don't use my Grandfather's Thorsen set, but kind of like the simplicity of just moving the mechanism from the side. Do you have a favorite?

Got some shop time and worked on the money pit baja. Tested the previously posted 3d printed alignment fixture to remove a broken exhaust stud. I'd judge it about a 90% success. Did get one of two broken studs removed will wait till head is removed to do #2 broken stud. Ran the 3d printer for a while, making a cover and a roof rack mounting prototype. Unpacked a box with supplies for replacing gaskets and seals.

I have a soft spot for Williams ratchets and tools. I have some that say Brooklyn NY. (the building is still there) When ever I come across any Williams tools no matter the condition, I get them and try to clean them up as best I can. I once bought a vintage Williams impact socket set at a Swap Meet for $25. It was stolen along with my top tool chest. I have about twenty ratchets of various makes that I can use when working on cars, but the one I grab first is a New Britain 3/8 flex swivel head ratchet.

When I acquired my 12" Delta 1426 finishing disc sander, I noticed sometime during it's 86 year history, four holes were drilled in the OEM stand that held a non-OEM gooseneck light fixture...
Before...
IMG_4328 5.jpg

Wanting it bring it back to be more original, the "extra" holes are now gone...
After...

I'll plan to meet with my powder coater to see what he has that will be a good color match to the OEM gray...

Opened my new pack of Harbor Freight impact Torx bits. I know this is a terrible idea, but I'm gonna do it anyway. I have a stuck balljoint. It has a Torx recess on the center shaft, and an 18mm nut. You're supposed to hold the torx and crank the 18mm with a wrench. Well it's almost off. It only needs about 3 more threads, but it's stuck. So I'm gonna just jam the 18mm wrench against something and try to hit the torx with my impact. I'll probably just break the bit, but WTF, I've got nothing to lose at this point. It's a lifetime warranty socket, and if it doesn't work, I've gotta cut the nut or balljoint off, which is the next step anyway. Pray to the ugga-dugga gods for me, lol.

Also took pictures of the CV axle so I could match it up to a replacment. There's like 3 axles it could be, and none of the year/make/model/vin things were definitive. Luckily I was able to make out the OEM part number. So the new axle is on the way.

Rock auto should have plaque in their lobby with my name on it after this job is done.

Waste not, want not!

Wind picked up decently. Felt a draft.

Coming from here IMG_5227.jpeg

FWIW, the wood burning stove had been here previously. IMG_0271.jpeg

But someone at some point covered it up IMG_0268.jpeg

So I knew there was a hole here IMG_5228.jpeg

But I didn’t seal it up at the moment, as this is a wall between the house and attached garage.

So today I decided to finally cover the hole (not shown) then put some insulation scraps in the void (not shown) to insulate it for this winter. Then I grabbed a sheet of paneling I tore down off another part of the house early in the demo. Put it up, just to get it sealed up. IMG_5229.jpeg

This is NOT permanent. This place will be getting drywall throughout. This is only to help seal up this place for winter lol.

So while not IN the garage, it is garage adjacent haha

Looks like you scored a dead center hole-in-one on that stud. Good job! (y)

Today was one step forward, three back. I feel like @Strouty.

Moved the Burg and boat. Rearranged the waterhog. Parked the Dingo in preparation for tonight's storm.

Started painting holiday decorations and burning more Naughty-O-Matics. Assembled decorations.

Noticed that the burner was smoking after the laser was parked. Cleaned up fried bits and goop that I assume was condensed smoke. Used lacquer thinner and a wire brush.

Made a new under grid. Noticed a burning bakelite smell near the big air compressor on the way back to the burner. The terminals were fried in the switch.

The vacuum hose retract belt is slipping. It needs a tensioner pulley. Wound up the hose by hand.

I dialed the printer back in. Pushed the print button. Managed a couple more sets of snowflakes.

Waiting for the new spool of silky silver from Amazon. Got here at about 8 tonight. Loaded it onto the printer and pushed print. It's printing fine. A 9.5 hour print. I'll see it in the morning.

I may rewind the other spool to get the crossing filament out. But I have so much other stuff to do before Christmas it's going to low on the priorities. (I wasn't going to mess with the dimmer switch anymore either.)

@rharman The fixture I printed did a great job of aligning the center drill to the broken bolt. Lesson learned to make it taller/thicker providing more support for the drill! I'd also spend more time flattening the broken stud to help it hold center!

Finished repairing wiring harness/connector issues on the POS Element (yes, the ugly one), topped off the fluids, and drove it up and down the road to test the new/used transmission. After I contacted the lady, she asked "Can you look at the radio too?, it doesn't make sound". I want this thing out of my life.

She only asked for you to look at it, not repair it, so I'd say kick the thing out the door!

Your opinion has been noted (again, I might add).

I don’t feel that way about all Honda products, the V65 Magna is a work of art, as is the NightHawk S. For cars, an NSX has to be one of the best looking cars ever. And this coming from a life long GM guy, he’ll, I’ve even seen a few GTR‘s that were pretty cool looking. Not to mention the old IMSA GTX stuff from the 80’s and 90’s I think?

Spent a little time the last few days in the garage. I got the Mustang up on 4 jack stands in preparation to bleed the brakes. I am installing new front shocks & I removed the front lower valance & measured where the front spoiler will go & drilled the holes. Now I am sanding it down to bare metal to get all the old paint off so I can shoot some primer on it next week when it is warmer.

Far too late for that sorta negotiation. Plus, it doesn't help that I was talked into doing this from someone high-up in my office.
No one should ever take advantage of their subordinates like that. Period. Any time someone tried, I always made it difficult. Then I reported them. Of course, me being me, I recorded every conversation, especially with management.

^^This is one of my biggest pet peeves, well, now that I think about it I have many pet peeves. However, this particular one puts a sour taste in my mouth as soon as the words escape the client's mouth.

Unfortunately, several repeat offenders are my family members. They get on the list to get into the shop for work, as soon as I have the vehicle in the shop "thinking" I know what's ahead of me, they drop it on me. Sometimes it's when they drop if off, other times it's when I have completed the repairs or nearly completed them I will get the "oh, while you've got it, can you look at this and see if you can fix it?" Then a list of at least one, sometimes 2-4 more items and what really irks me is when those "additional" tasks are more intrusive or take up more time than the original issue it came into the shop for. 🤬 Last time I simply told my BIL he will have to come and get it and I'll add him back to the bottom of the list as I don't have time right now as the next job is already scheduled to come in and that job is bigger than what I had it in for originally. He wasn't pleased, but then again, I haven't worked on his **** in the last 2 years either, so that's not a bad thing.
