^ quite the find, Don!

really an oddball there ! patent number or date stamped on that swing arm?
It just shows the brand and part number. The catalog descriptions spell out the operation fairly clearly. It gradually rotates while going back and forth to lap in the valve to the seat. I have another that works with a suction cup. IMG_7780.jpeg

^ The overall design of the thing is so much different than any of the Albertson or Duro/Indestro models I've seen (and others) that I figured they'd probably at least have gone for a design patent.
I think they all pretty much worked the same way - turn the crank and it whirls around and around and laps the valve in.

***** for @alinc100 and @ctuai !

Estate sales were scarce this weekend and no private sales at all really. I did end up picking up a couple Plomb pieces at an auction. There were quite a few Plomb sets but they all went for more than I wanted to pay. Then the 3/4 set dropped in my lap for $7.50, no idea what happened there as people were actively bidding on every other Plomb lot. Once I knew I was committed to drive up to the pickup I bid on the tool box and got it for $55. After auction fees, taxes, and gas I figure I'm in these a hundred bucks or so. The wood tray is from an estate sale for $4.

Home made joinery on the caddy...

The 3/4 set, most of it is 5 ring which is pretty nice! I have others as well so as long as they aren't duplicates this thing is gonna weigh 40 pounds :ROFLMAO:

The box, spent a little more than I wanted to but the label is really nice...box isn't too bad either, mostly surface rust.

Finally a few bits from the estate sales. In this pic 12 bucks or so. The Powr-Kraft drill has all the bits!

There is a absolute ton of stuff like that out there. From the pics, the condition is just so-so, and it seems to be a distillation of others works.

I will look good on a shelf, but that is about it.

Today's (measly) haul (been raining heavy all day)....
DPL1.jpg

I look for this style of light cause they are easy to repurpose for shop machine lights....I have one on a 8" Delta drill press and a 14" bandsaw....
DPL2.jpg
DPL3.jpg

I'll be putting this one on another 8" Delta drill press....
DPL4.jpg

The light is connected to the clip with a 17mm/11/16" nut.
Once the clip is removed it can be repurposed as a Chip Clip....
DPL5.jpg

I hardwire the light in the press so that when the tool is plugged in it comes on.....
DPL6.jpg

The two drill presses set beside each other on the bench....

Total $3.99 less 25% senior discount = $2.99

Restore finds today.
The Durham box was 4 bucks, the tools were 16. Craftsman drivers, awl, and vise grips, OTC/Herbrand chisel, Vaco made screwdriver marked Jensen, Klein multi bit driver, neat old spanner wrench and an adjustable I’ve never seen before!

If I'm not mistaken it seems that you keep your tools in and old telco room. Also a trip to my local restore has been on my list thanks to your finds. I've not been to it yet so I'm hoping for some good 2025 finds.

Haha not exactly. I do have several old phone systems all working in my basement

There was an estate sale listed that showed a few tools in the pictures in Lafayette, CA this morning. It rained early and the forcast was for more in the afternoon so we went about an hour after it opened to avoid standing in line. There were a few tools left and the guy doing the check out I’ve been dealing with for years so prices weren’t bad. IMG_7816.jpeg

I've been avoiding estate and garage sales for a while but "rewarded" myself for getting my house and yard cleaned up for my hiking group's Christmas party at my place by going to an estate sale last Friday. Not a lot of finds but I always like unopened engine oil bottles for a $1 each! Total was $30. The 4" green adjustable wrench is Powr-Kraft, the diagonal pliers are Kraeuter and the wood handle screw starter is an Irwin 900View attachment 223767420241212_212716.jpg

The nearby auction house, a new antique and collectibles store and the older antique store were having Christmas sales today, I didn't find anything at the first 2 but the older antique store was having a 75% off sale of tools and stuff so I loaded up. Spent $56 total, my favorites are the Craftsman Crown logo angle guide and the Porter Ferguson JD-6 auto body fender dolly. The wood framed rasp on the top is a Herbrand, the body hammer head is unmarked. The wood handle scraper through me off but using Google Lens I figured out the K is missing and its a EC Atkins floor scraper missing the blade. 20241213_172932.jpg20241213_172940.jpg20241213_172948.jpg20241213_173121.jpg

I won't pick up old motor oil to use in my car. Sadly I recycled several 5 quart jugs of unopened motor oil that I got for free just to help a seller clean their garage. The oil must have been at least 15 years old. It might sound silly but the reason I won't use old oil is that the additives in the oil can go bad, primarily the anti-foam stuff used to prevent the formation of air bubbles. Of course you can shake up a glass container with an oil sample to see how quickly any bubbles dissipate and compare this with how new oil behaves.

I would have figured that the I N D P L S would have made it a no-brainer!

You have to admire the creativity of the die-setter who managed to squeeze all those letters into such a tiny area.

I have absolutely NOTHING happening today - Complete rain-out for YS ES and the col flea. Don't even think about TOO's!

they put up a severe thunderstorms and possible waterspouts advisory for the north bay 1-1/2 hours ago. I've never seen a waterspout advisory here!

We had been having lightning since I got up at 4:30 AM until about then, and about 30 min ago our driveway was sluicing water like it was the street gutter!

Edit almost an inch since Midnight. that's a lot for place that gets maybe 15" a year in a good rain year...

Decent yard sale tools here seemed to have dried up. All in for $10 on the only non clothes yard sale today. The sealed 1999 Pokemon card, working cuckoo clock, and boxed (with instructions) 1972 Sony digimatic alarm clock are going straight to eBay. I doubt anyone would make the 60s mousetrap game anymore.
