Made 3 portable work benches for my driveway wood working shop.

Waiting on my last set of casters to arrive so I can finish the last bench. This my first attempt at mobile work benches, and only the second time I have ever done this. The two smaller tables are on hinges that are removable and can be latched on the main bench, or move around independently.

Table looks good.

My "wood shop" is my driveway as well so everything is on double locking casters.

What vintage is that craftsman table saw? Model number if you don't mind sharing?

Maybe I missed it, but just how thick is this skid plate? :wtf:
1/4” but had to add in the 1/2” strips front and back to make some clearance for where the Tcase dips down lower. Still need to figure out how thick and where for the gap created with those 1/2” strips where the ‘side wings’ sit under the frame.

This main section will be bolted to the frame as well both crossmembers with 3/8” Countersunk bolts.

still need to add on a second section that won’t be as overbuilt for underneath the transmission all the way up to the Bellhousing.

Emptied a mouse trap and reset. Now that it is getting a bit cooler around here they start coming into the garage. Not sure where they are getting in though. Added a few more pieces of junk to the growing dump pile. Will go one day this weekend.
Reminded me to put dryer sheets in the car, and steel wool in the exhaust tips.

I'm ready to pull the timing belt on my J35A8 engine after replacing power steering feed line, and the front and engine mounts. I had an oil leak that looked like it was coming from the oil pan on the passenger side. After digging into it a bit deeper, I think the leak was actually coming from the oil pump.

The aluminum valve covers are turning to a grey powder and crumbling away. So now I have to buy a couple of new ones.

I just learned about this recently. Apparently it's somewhat common for the Honda J series engines to crumble away around the spark plug tubes. It looks like they start to deform and look "melted" early on. Then it just crumbles away into a fine powdery dust.

Well, I guess that's what they say about the Honda quality.... :ROFLMAO:

Got a Vyper loaded cart for Christmas from my wife, assembled it today and started thinking of how to use it. It's a really nice cart and my wife hit a home run by choosing it!

Cleaning inlet valves on my daughters 2009 mini cooper s, its direct injection nonsense which means the inlet valves get carbed up. Its been idling rough when cold with odd noises on start up, fuel pressure is good so not hpfp.

after
PHO00029.JPG

However, did remove the valve cover to reveal the top timing chain guide had disintegrated and fell into the timing cassette, this jammed the cassette open and stopped the tensioner doing its job which means slack chain. The more I look the more I find, almost want to button it up and at least hear the ******* run right before I go any further. Dont blame anyone for not wanting to work on these pos 🙄

Circa 2004 . . . I only know the Model # 152.221.1040 cause it came from the original owner who still had the original owners manual.

I wish I knew about the locking swivel casters, I'm building my miter saw station currently. Went with 2 stationary casters and two locking swivel casters. As I was rolling around the table today, I'm not a fan of the two stationary casters. Live and learn I guess . . . will be removing the two stationary casters very soon. I ordered the Dewalt Miter #779 to replace my old Revolution miter saw, which has been great- but its been beat and the cast aluminum base is broken in two places (movers broke it during the last move), so an upgrade was in order.

As for the Craftsman table saw I really like it, not finding this kind of quality these days unless you're spending $$$$! It was the best saw I could find with a VERY robust fence.

I'm happy this one followed me home.

If you think you like the saw, try upgrading the the crank wheels to 8 inch cast iron wheels.

Fixed the eternal calendar design. Burned and assembled one.
Cleaned, flung, put away. Recovered the wood bench. Tried to assemble Judy's new cart. It was damaged. Boxed it up and stuck it in the car. Designed a snow gauge. Moved the Burg to the woodshop. Moved the boat in the metal shop. Shifted the Dingo. Replaced the bow bumper on the trailer. Uncovered the boat. Unloaded a bunch of parts from it. Took measurements. Gathered numbers from the motor. Checked that things are moving properly.

We got a lot of rain yesterday and somehow, my old fixed LED spotlight finally died on the corner of the garage.
So got a new unit but this time, I bought one where I can replace the bulbs! The old one had internal fixed LEDs.
The rain came up from the south and brought warmth!!!! 51F/11C outside, not bad for December 28th!

The light illuminates at dusk but is dim until it senses movement then goes full bright.
I caulked all around the bases fixture, No water is getting into this unit!
Once I got the new light mounted and working, I realized the rain washed away all the salt that was on the street.

I removed the cover and took this opportunity to stretch my ponies legs for a good run...

Nothing like uncovering a clean ceramic coated car! Another 15 degrees and I might have popped the top!

Broke out the Daytona 3T Low Profile jack I bought in March 2023 for its first use.

Picked up a screw in the left front on my truck. I had seen it earlier but TP was staying good so I didn't rush to do anything. Pulled out of the driveway this afternoon to go grocery shopping, got 1 block and "Beep Beep - Tire Pressure Low". Uh-Oh! Went around the block to get back to the house watching the pressure dropping the whole way. Got home and could hear it. Screw had decided to vacate the tire. Dang. Glad it happened so close to home instead of on the road with my wife.

New tires from April. Have an appt. to get it plugged early Monday morning. Road Hazard warranty so I'm going to use it instead of a DIY plug.

Thank you for the details. I'm looking to upgrade to something better than my folding contractor set up. Even with good blades it's not up to the tasks I'm throwing at it. Yours looked nice and not JET or Powermatic money.. unless I find a deal on a used unit.

@Matt018888 - That DeWalt is a beauty. And, what a great table setup - that is awesome. I miss my RAS - got rid of it 32 years ago.
Thanks rebuilt it a couple of years ago. Even had a new fan 3d printed. Really haven't used it much. Hoping it will be better incorporated into the shop now and find some use.

Craftsman contractor saws aren't JET or Powermatic quality, but with a bit of effort can be set up to give equivalent results. I love mine.

Well, running 8/4 hardwood lumber has proven to be risky task, even for me, not safe. Especially longer pieces when I have to put a foot on one of the folding legs to keep it from tipping/ pushing over. It cuts fine, its the heavy stuff that reveals it's lack of stability.

Working on a band saw table extension, it's probably going to need a kickstand/ leg once I get to it. Aluminum angle( my aluminum "machining" is done by hand, so it isn't as precise as I'd like). grade 8 hardware, prefabbed Birch top cut to fit. It will get a white oak end cap on the outside, bevel and some polyurethane tomorrow. Green tape is holding a tear out/ glue until tomorrow. I risked an end grain pass through the jointer to clean up some saw imperfections, lost on the gamble.

I have a plan for a similar additional out feed table as well. I've combined pieces of different versions I've come across in my searches. This part first...

I have a similar if not the same Craftsman table saw. I have had it for about 20 years.
