Still “tweaking” my sander stand.
Reshaped the lower saddle to better fit the round bodies on my Bosch RO sander as well as my trusty Porter Cable sander.
Completed pics of the stand and table soon, I promise.


With the correct blade my saber saw cut the 3/8” thick saddle quite easily.
Some file work and a drum sander in my Milwaukee right angle grinder cleaned the cuts up well.

BTW: Thanks to @PugetDude and others for recommending that cordless Milwaukee.
I don’t have a large enough compressor at this house to have used my air grinders on this job without a lot of waiting for the compressor to catch up.
Also, the 5A battery is a must IMO for larger jobs.

Care to share the details on that drum sander deal on the Milwaukee? Looks useful in things I find myself doing..

Cleaned out the ol' S10 for the new owner.

I listed it on Marketplace. Surprisingly, less than 24 hours of slogging through typical illiterate and belligerent facebook messages and half-price offers, I finally had a guy show up with cash and a trailer. Didn't even haggle. Just drove it, loved it, fanned out the money and loaded it up. Good buyers are out there, you just gotta fight through the mire of idiots to find them.

Like any good vehicle, I was kinda sad to see it go. But I really don't need it anymore, and I'm kinda getting sick of maintaining extra vehicles, lol.

Getting my F250 ready for KOH 2025.

It needs a gooseneck hitch and it seems someone did a pretty good job of welding some bars across the frame for a previous hitch install, but then took the hitch.



I have the turnover hitch I removed from my F350 when I installed the flatbed, it will fit this truck but not with those bars installed.

Time for some cutoff wheel work. After way too much time I got them out. It took a few cutoff wheels...







The powdercoating on my hitch is toast. Guess I'll need a day to POR these things and refurbish everything.



This 'couple hour' job is quickly turning into a week long process. Luckily I have plenty of other things to do while I waiting for the paint to dry....

You can also purchase drum sander assortments in 1” lengths in various diameters cheaply
Some drum sanders seem to be a bit more heavy duty than others But I really haven't found it matters much.

I think this sander is 2” long but I’ve replaced it with something longer (4”?)for the same application.

I’m always looking for an easier, faster way to sand the bandsaw boxes I fool around with. Especially the interior curves.

Check out a company such as Klingspor and you’ll see a kinds of sizes.

pretty straightforward on the new roller install?

Yes, the middle and uppers were easy, the lower (bottom) rollers needed the cable to be slacked to change the roller. Makes sense when you do it. Took 20 minutes. 11mm wobble impact socket made it a breeze.

Watching, or better listening, to Bloomberg while I go through all the battery powered lights and gadgets to give them a maintenance charge/ replace batteries. Usually do this in the beginning of the year and once in the middle of the year on those that haven‘t been recently used and then re-charged anyway.

Disassembled and measured a headlight assembly for the project baja. Trying to figure out a way to make it work and look like what I want. Hung up a couple new calendars.

Any I've removed many. All patched up and almost together, I'm installing a couple gauges and a different head unit so I left it hanging until I'm done. It still runs, even after my repair!

My wife's 85 year old uncle has a 77 Corvette that he took to a repair shop in Jacksonville, FL to repair the power window switches. They stopped working again and while we were there last summer I had to remove a bunch of taped splices and jumper wires and replace the harness to get them working again. I wish I had taken pics of that one.

I've always been pretty good with electronics, took several semesters of it in high school by choice and had several mandatory classes in college.
It makes sense to me, but I have met several people that are intimidated by it. And I've had employees that obviously should never do it.

I only dabble in electrical repairs. I did take an electronics technician course using my veterans benefits back when I had a small crew of electricians maintaining and installing welding equipment on a large jobsite. I found the work interesting and wanted to be able to converse better with the electricians. We had so many welding machines that Miller used to send their training guys down to teach our guys how to troubleshoot and repair machines. We did all repairs on site rather than return machines for warranty repairs because we could not waste time waiting for them to come back. So Miller obliged by training our guys at no cost.

Installed the stair railing today. I really like the lighter color. It matches with the color of the door at the top of the steps nicely. Clamps will come off once the adhesive dries. Used two tubes of construction adhesive

I wasn’t sure how this will work out (still aren’t) so I substituted finished plywood from a desk I salvaged Instead of Baltic Birch that I usually use for shop fixtures and jigs.
i kinda like the contrast between the dark factory finish and the lighter color of the core.

Still not done with the drywall, mud and paint in the garage but I am making progress. At least I can start hanging stuff on the walls I've finished and get things off the floor and everywhere else.
Yesterday I sand blasted these big ol turnbuckels and got them primed and painted.
This afternoon I went into the attic and hung them off the rafters like they were before I hung the drywall.
Then my clamps put away.
They were just in a pile on the floor.

No engineer should be allowed to design until he/she has been a mechanic for several years.

Then when they are designers, they need to be the ones doing preventive maintenance on their design before release.

I say this as a trained engineer with BSME and PE. I was so disillusioned with my so called piers that I bailed and went to another field and never looked back.

In the garage, I got out my new snow shovel.

In front of the garage, I used it to clear the 1/2” or so of snow off the driveway.



Wasn’t enough to be worth getting the snowblower out. Was too much to leave, drive over, and pack down in to an icy mess.

Back in the garage, put the snowblower shovel away again.

Yesterday I moved the W&D then removed the hideous old paneling from part of the back wall. Today the electrician is here replacing our old **** panel, and installing an interlock/inlet for the genny so we don't have to string extension cords when they turn our power off.

I bought some wheels a while back that are not quite the right offset for my car. I had the mating surface machined and then started playing with the alignment a little (camber) to see how close I'm getting to having these fit correctly. I think some aftermarket control arms and lowering springs will solve the issue and be achieve the appearance I'm shooting for. Car goes back to the body shop next week for new sail panels to be painted, then I have to put the driver door and entire interior back together. This is my wife's car, so I better have it done by summer....
