Yeah, probably so. It’s aluminum siding over the old wood (cedar, probably) siding from the 1940s. I assume that rust is indicating that water is getting inside the aluminum somehow, but it’s not immediately obvious how that would be. And it’s not mine, so I’m not especially concerned to tear in to it.
Or somebody used steel nails to attach it.

I have those same Craftsman ignition wrenches. Probably should take them to the Antique Road show next time it's in town. Maybe also take my "Powr Kraft 100 Forged Alloy USA" open end wrenches (sold by Mongomery Ward for you young whippersnappers).

As an aside my wife and I worked the floor at a Roadshow in SLC back in the "90's. She covered 4 or 5 appraisers and when they thought something was good for the show, she would come to me, and I'd call (radio) the producer. The producer would evaluate the item and send the person to the green room for later filming. Was a lot of fun even though tiring. Even got to have lunch with the Keno brothers.

Caught a break today. It may not look like one, but after 2 sessions of engine gunk and removing the intake spider I located the leak. I was eyeballing the turbo/ pedestal and pedestal/ engine O - rings and told myself if the turbo has to come off its getting a new EBV deleted pedestal and a KC turbo plus up some pipes.

HPOP O-ring on the serviceable end plug. $42 for an O-ring kit and I only need the one. It will be here tomorrow.

I'm kinda disappointed in the way of, the new turbo would have been more fun, but this is wayyyy less expensive and I'll be back to the boat sooner.

We are doing a road trip in the coming weeks, so I did some maintenance and pre-trip going over on the wife's 454SS. Got my first use of the new Lock N Lube grease gun, works well! Tightened/retorqued the leaf spring u-bolts and wheel nuts. Topped up the air in the tires and checked fluids.

Well, I was out in the garage tonight and noticed a spot on the floor under the truck! :( Looks like the water pump bypass hose decided to leak! I can't be too mad at it; the hose has been in there for a very long time and better to find it now than out on the road somewhere.

IMG_0113.jpg

you can see the coolant on the block under the hose:

I have a molded hose for something else that looks like I can cut a section out of to work here, maybe tomorrow.

Gathered tool to take upstairs to the master bath. Drilled a hole in the grout at the base where water has been leaching. I haven't used the shower in about two weeks. About a cup of water flowed out. Used the shop vac to **** out the rest.

How did it happen? I noticed a small chunk of grout had popped out above. I don't know how.
It seems to be drying out. I'll re-grout tomorrow then seal after the patch dries.

Cut some 45º knee braces for the post-to-beam connections for our deck, and then installed those.

Then I replaced the leaking bottom main seal on the engine on my riding mower. What a pain in the *** getting the old one off. New one went on just fine. Figured I'll replace the main drive belt while the underside is all torn apart, so I'll have to go to Ace tomorrow. Cleaned up tools and I was tuckered out for the night.

Since I’m waiting on supplies to work on the ottoman, I decided fixing the shop vac would be a good idea. Abandoned the original stupid buttons and switch and bought a simple DPST toggle from Farm & Fleet.

Cut out an aluminum plate to fill the hole where the buttons used to be.

IMG_6662.jpeg

No more buttons. Also, cardboard template.

IMG_6663.jpeg

Hacked out the button supporting plastic.

IMG_6664.jpeg

I had some SS button heads, but I need to pick up some M5 nuts for them.

IMG_6665.jpeg

Hacked away the supporting plastic for the old switch, because it’s in the way for the new one.

IMG_6666.jpeg

Changed spade connectors to ring terminals for the new switch.

IMG_6667.jpeg

I’ll pick up some M5 nuts tomorrow, then I can put this thing back together.

Just a little while ago spent a few minutes fixing this turd of a snow brush scraper, 2nd repair this week.

First the brush head separated on me, this morning it became two pieces as it separated from the extension.

Costco sells these, a few years back they were better quality, now it is utter ****:)

I had a 97 F350 with a 460 in it, had a hose very similar to that one, a little shorter. I felt like I messed with it ALL the time. Chasing a solution I went to a silicone hose, never touched it again.

How many miles are on your Blazer? Seems odd that a 4 year old engine would have leaks unless it's a known defect or high mileage.

And yes I was not happy to find it, one of the seals around a spark plug tube has failed and tube was full of oil.

All four of the cam phaser seals were damp as well.

Seams to be a common issue.

As you can see oil 3/4 way up on coil.

Wow.
It becomes a part of routine maintenance or so it seems.

My parents own a 2013 Fiat 500, the AOS (air and oil seperator) unit on the valve cover has an Oring that allows the oil through once it ages out, it ends up pooling up on the coils/in the spark plug well.

I sourced a bag of hydraulic seals that fit the bill, plan on replacing every couple oil changes (annual oil change in their case), for the peace of mind.

I gave a fleeting thought to just doing seals, but the complete covers are not that expensive so I'm going that route.
If it was just that one seal I'd likely just do the seals, but several are showing signs of seepage, so the complete cover gets them all done.
This is my work vehicle - thus the miles - 2 more years hopefully and she will get sold/replaced.

Got this repop of an old recruiting poster and bought a cheap poster frame at Hobo Lobo. Trimmed and put it together this morning.

That's memory triggering. I remember a fragment of doggerel overheard in a military bar, while a captain was trying to get me drunk, to discover the target of my audit.

...
Land, sea, air,
We are in your sho-ort hair,
As the -mumbled- go ******* along.
....

There was more, but I didn't catch it. You boys are an endless source of mental stimulation, and giggles.

This sounds interesting, care to elaborate?
Only so much.
I was on site to do the initial meet n greet about an upcoming base audit over misplaced equipment and/or funds in some of their units. This captain was tied into the grapevine somehow, and got wind of things he shouldn't have. He was trying to discover who was going to be the subject of my audit, something no one but myself and a clerk in DC actually knew.

After that little attempt to milk me for information, he went right to the top of my list. Although he was not my original target, one of his comrades was. I called the mothership and had him put on TDY for very desirable training across the country. Once he was away, I put on my enlisted drag, transferred into his unit, and went to work. He had quite a little thing going.

Anyway, the captain got court-martialed as did several officer and enlisted staff. Ba-bye.
The base commander got shunted to a snowball storage facility above the Arctic circle. You don't leak what you're told to keep mum about. He retired immediately.
And my clerk got demoted and transferred for leaking. You don't use secure information for water cooler chat. She gossiped to a office friend, who was a family member of the captain, who alerted him.
The family member got the axe.

Really? Nah. I'm just old, and during my youth did what seemed the most fun/interesting at the time. Once I got married, there had to be stability, so I went into NYS public service, and stuck it out long enough to get a comfortable retirement.

It might just be. Ya know, thinking back, way too much of my life is redacted, even the state service. And, most anyone who would have known about those events is in the shoebox, or under orders. Even now, there are clandestine meetings in my gazebo, shop or greenhouse. Guess I'm livin the life.

Modified a squirrel trap.

The doors weren't closing all the way anymore, and the squirrels were nosing them up and escaping, so I added a little bit of spring pressure to close them better. Yes, that is a spring doorstop. A flat spring would probably have been easier, but this is what I had on hand.

Got the bypass hose changed out, I'll probably order the 'correct' hose and replace it in the future, but for now it's all good.

I didn't realize how much of a kink there was in the old hose!
IMG_0138.jpg
The two fittings point is different directions and an S curved hose it what's really needed to connect the two. The section of hose I used had a 90ish bend in it. I also cleaned as much as I could wipe with a rag all around the front of the engine.

Installed the Landscape Cloth lining in a pair of planter boxes. My Fitness Trainer exercised me in the workshop today. The owners of the house next door visited me for a few minutes, they were here to make some small repairs. They are now living across the bridge and I had not seen them in a while. We got caught up on how their now adult children are doing. Loaned them a Hole Saw to open a wall to look for a plumbing leak.
