Took the next step in my DIY Power Station project. Added the solar charge controller and a connector for the solar panels, as well as a positive wire cutoff switch. The heart of the system is a LiTime 100Ah LIFePo4 battery (group 31) the box is a rolling Bauer toolbox. The Build was inspired by the YouTube channel "Fishin N Stuff"
.

Below is the front view with the 12 V charging station with USB and cig lighter ports.

IMG_4218.jpgBelow is the Solar charge controller and connector from the solar panels. (Wondering if I could also plug in a 120V battery charger there as well....)

The Receptacle I plug in my horse trailer so I can run my 12V lights and plugs in trailer.

This weekend I used the power station to run my horse trailer lights as well as charge phones, and plug in my travel CPAP. Hardly drew it down enough to charge. But hooked up to one of the Panels anyway just to watch the screen blink....

Assembled the frame of my current project, it will accommodate 4 of the 5 gallon buckets for planting. The legs have not yet been fabricated.
I intend to paint this model to make it look more attractive.

The Nursery that has been selling my planter boxes has told me that they are getting requests for Window Boxes, I plan to have a few samples to show them this coming weekend.

Spent a couple of hours disassembling the R&D model of the planters in current production. I just don’t want to cut up the lumber I used to make it. I think this is because I was raised by Depression Survivors and was taught to reuse and recycle long before it became fashionable.

Wife: can you put some slide out drawers in the kitchen cabinets?
Me: sure babe. Let's do one to see how it goes and figure out pricing.

Few days later after picking up wood and slides.

Today I started building the drawer. I've never used this drawer slide type, so it's taken a bit more work to get clearances the way I want.

I get all that working the way I want and start adding the sides to the drawer and OMG when did I run out of wood glue...

I guess I'll finish this tomorrow.

Went to the pond without pliers. Because the shop was closer ran inside and grabbed a pair of pliers for hook removal. Tiger Bass ate a cricket. It was released

My fishing pliers are ancient Kraeuters that have long seen better days. I'd just bought them at a local indoor flea market about a week prior to a camping trip in 2017, and threw them in there as the el-cheapos I'd had since I was a boy were garbage. They still work pretty well for hook removal, and if something happens--the cutters are shot and they're kind of loose.

Cleaned and worked on a trash can. Yes. A trash can.

My wife bought one of those fancy 'Simple Human' sensor and voice activated trash cans when we first moved in to this house. It's quite a few years old now and the lid doesn't always open all the way, so it will sometimes close before you get a chance to put something in it.

I went looking to replace it until I discovered what they cost new. The one we have, the wife bought on a 'going out of business' clearance sale at bed bath and beyond. I'm not paying to replace this thing and as much as it sounds as a gimmick, the voice activation is nice when your hands are full of yuck. You can shout at it while you're crossing the room and it will be open when you get there.

Ahywho... long story longer... I started trying to take the trash can apart to see if I can figure out why the lid isn't working correctly. While I never did find how to take it apart (it looks like it's just snapped together, but don't want to risk breaking it further), I did discover at some point something broke off and was sitting in the area where the lid hinge cover rotates into. My assumption is the lid hinge cover occasionally gets caught on the broken piece, which forces it to close.

I got the broken piece out and gave the trash can a good cleaning. We'll see if this fixes it or not. Stay tuned.

We had one of those that became the Amityville trashcan. One hot summer we got some maggots. I cleaned them out. But, but, but, and again but, some of the little devils made their way into the sensor. On mine it was a low power microwave presence sensor, and maggots love it. They galloped towards it and covered it, making it do unwanted things. And no matter how many times I cleaned it, it kept popping new maggots and going nuts. I finally dipped the thing in chlorine for a couple hours, and they went away, but it was never the same afterwards, and finally died. Probably from the chlorine eating away at its innards. I now have a nice pedal operated can, that never fails to do my bidding.

Went into garage and bottled up the old antifreeze from my catch cans. I discovered that in our new to us area, the trash and recycling people take antifreeze and oil FROM MY CURB! Oh they are gonna hate that they offer that service! So awesome for me. Trash day is tomorrow. I am so excited.

Then I got the chainsaw, and cut and took 19 more logs to a neighbor and four full loads of sticks and ******** to my other neighbors stump burning site. I got the fire going and burned the **** out of stuff. Hot out and the fire made it much hotter, shockingly. :)

I worked and sweated my *** off for three hours. Felt great.

Now I have some investments to deal with. Paul Bunyan is back to his desk.

Steering rack and pinion on a Tacoma not how I wanted to start Monday and starting with only 25 hours in the pay period due to business being so slow. And getting screwed on it even more because it’s warranty. I mean it pays 3.5 but I’ve been working on it since 8am. So I’ve lost time on it because I don’t know anyone who can do it in 3.5 hours. Hopefully going in is a lot better. I had to take a lunch break because I needed food and had to cool off because I was furious with the stupid designs of these things. Luckily my coworkers have been helping me too. Customer pay on this would be 8.2 according to our pricing system. 8.2 sounds way more reasonable lol.

AC condenser on dad’s Honda Accord, Also did brakes on all four corners.

Tore apart the front left wheel/brakes on the 2017 gmc sierra. Have this abs light that is throwing traction control codes, brake controller and abs codes. Front left abs sensor open circuit.

Just threw a new sensor in and did not resolve the problem. Now to get the meter out and start chasing wires. Figuring a broken wire between the sensor and the brake control module.
Spent 3 hours Sunday finding and fixing my ABS problem.

Broken wire on the main body harness, right where a bundle of wires splits off for the ABS/EBCM module.

Interestingly enough it was a corrosion problem right where the wire had been repaired/spliced before by a previous owner.

Fixed with heatshrink **** connectors, and hopefully won’t be a problem in the future.

Yeah. I think that's why I currently have not wood glue. The last project I worked on, I realized my glue had all gotten old and was not flowing/working like it should. I vaguely remember tossing a few mostly used bottles away and the rest of the 1 gallon jug I had that would no longer pour.

One more note on the Stihl mower fix: Oiling the centrifugal clutch also fixed a problem that I thought was simply a design flaw. Since new, the mower has required being pushed forward with the drive off for a foot or two before the wheels would turn backwards. This could be a royal PITA in tight spots, requiring thinking ahead to release the drive with a foot or so to go so I could pull the mower back out of a corner. Now, the wheels release as soon as I let off the drive bar!

I learned the same thing. Wood glue doesn't like being frozen, which can happen even in my heated shop if left too close to an outside wall. I buy enough for a project at a time, with a small bottle kept handy for repairs and such.

If you do buy in bulk, get several bags of marbles and use them to bring the level of the glue up to the top of the jug after every use. This will prevent evaporation into the headspace and reduce or eliminate the problem of glue "skinning over". The marbles can be washed off for the next use.

Friday, walked into shop, was about 10 degrees cooler inside, so I left the doors closed for a bit as I cooled off. Finished sanding my little wood project and got a coat of stain on it.
Saturday, nothing, was much wetter than the weather people said it was going to be.
Sunday, another coat of stain. Had a post mow beer. Charged the KTM and Yamaha batteries in the house garage. Weather is supposed to be nice this week, may have to ride the KTM to work on a day or two.

I did a rear wheel bearing and trans cooling lines on a Tacoma today and had the same question about the engineers skill level.
Then got to go on a hunt for a crank sensor on a Nissan NV1500 van...Pro demand says left top of and points to the bell housing on the left side top....not there found it on the right side middle accessed though the wheel well....

I got the chance to try out my new tilting/leveling product photo table:

54564127811_01404a381c_o.jpg

The last time, I shot all the beers that we had in both cans and on tap. Today, it was those we only have in cans due to a limited # of faucets (12). There were five, and they fought me hard!

54564001033_2af962d999_o.jpg

There isn't enough room above the head in that one, and some I had to redo due to cutting the top of the head off. I don't know why I struggled so hard with that issue today.

But the table worked. It was mounted on a ballhead--like the camera is in the first pic above. While I was shooting, the QR plate for my old Bogen pan/tilt head showed up, which would have been the right one to use.

A ballhead is what it sounds like, and is great for the majority of camera work. It allows tilting in all directions and panning with a single control. For leveling a table, it ***** as I can't isolate sideways from fore-aft.

This is a pan/tilt head:

54564465895_f8deca2809_o.jpg

The knob at top is the QR release/clamp. The next lever down--pointing towards camera--is fore/aft tilt. Next one is tilt abeam. Lowest is pan. This style is also preferred for spotting scopes and telescopes.

I had painted the table with Rusto BBQ paint, as it was the only flat black I had on hand. Flat black is de rigueur for photography for obvious reasons. Not being able to bake it in, it didn't want to stay put, but instead rubbed off on everything it touched. I stripped the paint off and hit it with a couple of coats of Rusto Flat Black Enamel. Should stick better.

Started messing with the truck bed trailers I bought previously.

The one had a 1 7/8 hookup. IMG_6453.jpeg

The other one had a 2”.

So I got a cheap 2” hookup. Got it bolted on with the 2 bolts (for now) but I will be drilling the other holes and using good hardware. It’s just now almost 9pm and I’m out of time lol

I know I’m going to get some hate, but listen. It’s a 1/2t truck bed trailer. This is rated for 3500lbs. I doubt I’ll have more than 1000lbs in the trailer (including the trailer weight lol)
