Do you get to add Extra time for cleaning, gasket removal, and the like. We did with Yamaha, could always add and extra .5, more with a phone call and autho from them. They were really good at making sure you got paid fairly, even their service bulletins had good labor times on them.
No extra time for anything unfortunately. They basically throw you to the wolves on this kind of stuff. Toyota isn’t good about taking care of their customers or employees from what I’ve seen.

Waiting for shade in the driveway for more T-bird stuff - so I replaced a dead tire on one of my Tent trailers with an old spare.

Yesterday I un-buried the garden wagon. aired up the tires one of those was dead, so ordered tubes for it. then power washed the sucker. It's still decrepit but its operational again so a back saver... Going to prep it for the new tube after a break.

This is bringing back some memories for me. 1 of the insurance companies I used to work for would allow 10 hours for emergency mitigation work. I had to call in for authorization with a good reason to go beyond this.

Sat and drank an after mow beer. Lots of mowing these days. Taking tonight off from mowing but will be back at tomorrow and Saturday. We have a couple of events at the house over the next week, so gotta have things somewhat presentable.

I need to mow, but I just walked the yard and it's still too wet from the rain the other night. There's still standing water in a few low spots. Typically it will dry out in a day or two, but we've had so much rain this spring the ground is pretty well saturated still.

Is that common to still be so wet were you are?

Somethings never change, I worked for 2 dealers in the early/mid 70's, Dodge and IH same stuff with warranty times went on back then.
I remember getting paid .4 for removing a coke bottle from inside the right hand front door on a Dodge Monaco. Customer complained there was a rattle when he drove over the railroad tracks by his house, after 2 other guys drove it and said there's no rattle I got stuck with the job called the customer asked him where the RR tracks were and drove 20 minutes there drove over the tracks a couple times figured out it was in the door went back and pulled the panel to find a classic glass coke bottle wedged in the door in front of the front window track.
R&R door panel paid .3 finding the rattle .1.....

I spent the morning knocking together a tap set up with CO2 push for a Corny keg--it's already out on the road to one of the beer event I don't get invited to.

Spent a few hours getting the drip irrigation system back in order and planting posies in the beds around one of our outdoor seating areas:

and some pots that will get spread around the place:

At least one of the pots will stay in front of the shop.

My job title is Plant Manager for good reason.

Finally, I did my semi-annual oil change on the Toy:

Who knew that a Royal Purple bottle threads into the oil filler port of a 7AFE? Coincidence? I think not.

I know I'm probably wasting money changing the oil on a 30+ year old car twice a year, but the specs call for one oil (5-30) for below 0F and another (10-30) for above 40F--and most of my driving is less than five miles, which is hard on oil. I also want to see if I can turn the clock over before I or the car dies... it's at about 300,000 miles right now, so only another 700K to go.

Now it's beer thirty....

Timm, what is the dark track on the hood from on the Toy? Slow leak? Belts shredding?
PS pump, slow leak--like I add fluid about once a year. When I first saw it, I thought it was a main seal... scared me. But it was an $800 car in the midst of the pandemic, so gotta expect a few problems (like about $2K of problems).

Thanks for reminding me--I need to check that level.

I usually had a deal with the service manager. I make it go away in one shot for hourly, or the monkeys could **** it up over n over, and they could piss off a good customer and never sell another whatever sbox they were peddling to that sap again.

Got the rest of the holes drilled on the trailer coupler and used grade 8 hardware. IMG_6464.jpegIMG_6465.jpeg

When this weather breaks, the bed is coming off, frame rust repaired, cleaned and painted.

Then the best bed it’s going back on this frame.

Just did this for now, so the trailer remains usable in the interim.

Got my truck back up and running again with my little helper nephews lol. It blew a spark plug back in November and i finally got around to fixing it with an insert. I love my truck only 115,000 on it. My nephews and niece are staying with us for a few days while my sister recovers from her c section of her fourth child and now my youngest nephew so I have 1 niece and 3 nephews now. The oldest nephew is very curious and loves helping me. His name is Vincent and he is 6 turning 7 this year.

Seems this is the business model of the world anymore. I remember when companies valued customers and good employees. Sadly, this is no longer the way.
blew a spark plug
Had this happen to a mercury sable, of course it was on the back side of the motor. What a pain in the ***. I didn’t trust that peening it would hold, so I used a little JB-Weld. It had over 200k on it, so I wasn’t worried about any future issues.

I was recently given two carts from work that were once used as a platform for one of our robots. The top is 1" thick steel and measures 29"x30" each. The frame is 3x3x1/4 steel tubing. They were also designed to bolt together to make one large stand. This would make a great weld table.

The problem is the legs were only about 4" long. I originally planned to just extend the legs another 24" or so, and keep it at that. Unfortunately after cutting the legs off, it became apparent my plan wasnt going to work. So much for doing this for free.

Anyway, I ordered a set of legs and welded plates over the holes where the legs used to be. Then welded the legs on. I then bolted the two tables together and welded a plate across the bottom to ensure the bolts would not stretch and the table collapse in the middle.

The table weighs in at 723 lbs and should suit my needs well.

1000016641.jpg
1000016642.jpg
Both tables are dead flat and lined up perfectly with each other, so no steps between the two halves.

Flipping it over was a bit of a headscratcher but with Teo of my boys and two of my girls and some ingenuity we got it flipped. It isnt in its final resting place yet, but it was getting late.

I am still debating adding some supports between the legs, but its pretty solid as it is.

I am also working up the ambition to drill about 400 holes with my mag drill and turn it into a proper fixture table.

I still have areas that I mow around to avoid getting stuck, and of course, areas where I do not choose wisely, and do get stuck anyway! Late in the year to still need to worry about wet spots for us.

Well, not IN my garage and I didn't do it.
The big boys did...
The driveway company took out the old, single lane blacktop driveway and expanded it to match the concrete apron in front of the garage. They will be back within the week to pave it. They also made a parking spot for my trailer on the left side of the apron. It won't get paved but will just have class 5 gravel which is all the city requires for a trailer.
I built this garage 5 years ago but without a wider driveway I was making a muddy mess of the lawn whenever it rained.

Color me impressed! A lot of guys would need help.

Hope the surgery recovery goes well.
She was raised in the country. Only girl in their 11-children family to help her mom in the kitchen and around the house. Never complains. :)

The shoulder recovery is so-so with a bit of pain that's manageable using Tylenol 500mg 3-time daily. (y)

I am 6 months post op today. Still have some soreness going but my repair was small compared to some shoulder work. Medium subscapularis tear and bicep tenodesis. I finished PT end of March, and then slacked on my home PT (lots of home projects in spring months for me). Dominant arm surgery *****.
OUCH!!! Yes it does. :(
Right shoulder SAD, DCE, and RCR. Massive Rotator Cuff Tear. Chronic Long Bicep Tendon Rupture.

Remember a while back when I started a post on this thread with "I popped into the garage..." and people read it like "I pooped in the garage"?

Well, guess what happened today?

My house's septic line plugged up, so while waiting on the plumber, I set up the camping toilet in the garage, and, well, you know the rest.

Ironically, I just had the septic tank pumped two days ago. Now the line is backing up. A paranoid person would probably blame the septic pumping crew. But I think what really happened is, it's been plugged all along. We've only been coming up to the house like 2 days a week. So we'd use the bathroom and it'd be slowly filling the pipe, and it would drain out slowly over the 5 days it got to rest. Now that we moved in, it gets no rest, and now it's backed up.

I snaked it myself, but I'm hitting something my snake can't get through. I'm hoping it's a root or something, not a broken pipe. So I gave up and called a professional.

So now I'm waiting for the plumber. And in the mean time, if the urge arises, I will certainly "pop into the garage", if you know what I mean...

While I was changing oil yesterday, a perfect opportunity to lube and rust-proof my oil filter wrench and 3" extension presented itself. All I had to do was bobble my grip on the extension when the final thread of the filter let loose and drop the whole shebang into the oil drain pan!

I meant to do it. Honest.

First ticket of the day at work front pads machine rotors, rear pads machine rotors, coolant flush and spark plugs 6.3 hours but I knocked it down an hour for the spark plugs because labor says 1.7 but you can literally do them in 20 minutes or less so it’s not right for the customer to pay full price for it. And I also sold tires and an alignment on it so I’m set going into the afternoon. I really need the time but I’m not going to charge people more than they should pay because I’m a firm believer if you do someone right then good things will come to you later. Of course the shop snitch had something to say about it but I just blow him off. He doesn’t need to worry about what I charge someone for something. He thinks no one should get a break.

But… then the Tacoma with the steering rack is back because it started leaking again so I do have to do it again dang it lol. I told them it’s not going to be till Monday minimum and may roll into Tuesday but at least I’m prepared for it now lol. Another whopping 3.5 hours lol. My boss inquired about possibly getting extra time and they said nope if the ten technicians we test average 3.5 hours then everyone gets 3.5 hours. The way time is determined for warranty is they get 10 technicians who are selected at random and paid and they have them all do the job and see how long it takes and then average out the time. I’d like to know who in the world is doing one in 3.5 hours because I sure wish I had their skills. I’m fine if I never have to do one again after this lol especially warranty. Also it concerns me that the reman racks are so cheaply made that the boots are held on with zip ties instead of clamps.
