Another photo of the MTS (Mechanics Time Saver) magnetic screwdriver racks... Yes, you can fit more tools in in you alternate the direction, but my Wera's are marked with the size on the top and wanted the convenience of seeing exactly what I was grabbing (though I suppose if the one between the 11 and 13 is upside down, I could safely assume it is a 12?)

$22 each at JBTools, best deal I've found if you are already spending enough with them to get to the free shipping level ($99). $34 on Amazon shipped (where the seller is *also* JBTools!)

Wiha used to make both styles shown at the same time- I have both and prefer the shorter ones. If Cripe is selling them, I guess they've discontinued the shorter style with the hollow shafts?
I have both and also prefer the Wiha hollow shafts. Lighter, better balanced, more useful. I don't really need the 'heavy duty' features of the other Wiha's... If it's some higher torque or effort fastener, I'm likely grabbing a socket and ratchet. I don't have an 11mm Wiha hollow shaft though, so this picture shows a mixed set.

I also absolutely love my Wiha 7mm on a flex shaft. Perfect for OE and Norma hose clamps with a 7mm head.

Also shown is another style of screwdriver rack I tried.. While it is magnetic to stick to the box, it uses a clamp style holder for the driver shafts themselves and I found it a bit fiddly (though they are a bit cheaper).

The screwdriver set on the right, if anyone is interested, is a Hazet set that was branded Porsche Motorsport...

Lotta big items arrived today. The Milwaukee stuff from rebates and the Estwing sledgehammers were posted here on the Hot Deals section. I got rid of many of my tools while moving over the last few years, relied on just what I had in my shop at work - that's changed a bit now and we moved again so...feeling like a bit of an addict with all the stuff arriving these days.
  • Milwaukee M18 Inflator
  • Milwaukee M18 Blower
  • Estwing 8lb Sledge on a 36" Fiberglass handle
  • Estwing 4lb Sledge

Forgot to take a pic before I opened it, but screwdriver set from the dealer, and a couple wrench sets from the 40% deal.IMG_0888.jpeg

I really like what Snap-On did there. Which SKU/ Product# is that? Promotional/ limited product? (Looked at the Snap-On site but wasn’t able to find this set.)

Thank you & kind regards,
Olli

New stuff this week. Planning on going to Harbor Freight to get a set of stubby wrenches as well. First up a set of Mac stubby ratcheting wrenches. I found a stubby 17 is really handy for doing steering racks on Tacomas so just bought the whole set. Didn’t ask price but when he put it in the computer it came up as like $300 or $400 something ouch lol. But that’s ok I need more Mac Tools I don’t have a ton of them. And these are reversible too which I like so you don’t have to flip them over to go the other direction. And the case is nice too. Going to get the Icon stubby combination wrenches this weekend if there is any left. Then a Snap-on semi deep 14mm for the house. I use 14mm on practically all the cars I have so figured I’d get a semi deep for the house. A slightly long flex head 3/8 ratchet because I’ve actually found that length to be extremely handy recently and even though I have a Matco one I had to get one for the box as well and not just the cart. The Stanley adjustable wrench and Channellocks I found in a used Tundra yesterday so they are mine now. Both made in India and seem ultra cheap but hey free is free. We can keep anything we find in a used car that doesn’t affect the value of the car.IMG_2101.jpeg

I get shipments from JB Tool about a day and a half after I order them.

I'm impatient and unfortunately seems it will take 5 days to ship something from Ohio to Arizona.

I placed my order Wednesday morning, shipped Thursday morning and scheduled delivery is for Tuesday.

First time buying from JB Tools.

Consider yourself lucky. I ordered Astro's razor wrench set May 13 off Amazon to be delivered on the 15th. A day after placing the order, however, they changed my order to 'Now arriving June 20th' and their product page then reflected they don't have them currently in stock any more. Seeing that I tried to cancel and order from JB Tools instead who was still showing as in stock, but Amazon's site wouldn't let me. I tried going though customer service - which they now make getting to a phone number really hard to do - and after jumping though all the hoops was told the same. Even though it still hadn't shipped yet (and as a matter of fact, it still hasn't as of writing this post), they are not able to cancel it for whatever reason. They didn't have an answer why it was supposed to be a 2-day order turned into the delay or why I was already charged for it even though it hasn't shipped yet, which has always been Amazon's policy. Only option they gave me is I can wait until after it is delivered and return it, which is just too much of a hassle. Now they are saying "Now arriving Wednesday - Previously expected June 20". Woo hoo! That's apparently what I pay over $100 a year for Prime for, 5 week shipping on an item they showed as in stock 2-day shipping when I placed the order o_O

Do you still have the MAC guy that was kind of a douche nozzle? I think I remember you said you had an older guy that wasn’t very cooperative with people. And people may laugh about having multiples of the same/similar tool in different places but I’ve been doing the same thing and it makes life way easier.
Some pre Fathers Day gifts for me.:):p
Forgot to say the wifes got good taste, she got theses because the looked cool.
I love Wiha handles. They are the only screwdrivers that rival my beloved Witte Maxx Plus handles.

When they do this, cancel the order. I wouldn’t, now, though.

Nah that was before I started this job. I saw a Mac truck at a big rig truck shop once and he made some smart remarks when we wanted to buy a socket we needed. If I remember correctly it was “I don’t want some weekend warrior or some construction worker buying tools as these tools are for mechanics only and I can’t warranty them if you aren’t a mechanic”. The Mac guy at my school and my very first shop was awesome though then this Mac guy at my current shop is the best one so far. I haven’t seen the one who was a jerk in a while. If it was that guy I would never step foot on his truck after he acted like that.

Wiha precision set arrived, so here are my recent Wiha and other red arrivals.

Wiha Zai Hause 42 Piece Micro-Bit Set 44624
Good coverage, in a very space efficient box.
P_20250613_121149.jpg

Wiha VDE Slot & Pozi Soft Finish Screwdriver 6 Piece Set 25477
Good price for a set that also includes two larger flats plus Pozis, which I doubt I'll ever use for electrical.
P_20250613_121215.jpg

Wiha Folding ruler Longlife All in One 2m 33232
Trying one of these for the first time after seeing someone use one. This model (and the "Plus" ones) has markings starting from both ends (so it's both "inside read" and "outside read"), so you have the advantages of both and also makes for an easier purchasing decision.
P_20250613_121326.jpg

TEKTON Mini Pry Bar Set (4-Piece) LRD90803
Tekton provides excellent details (measurements, photos) about their pry bars (and picks too), which was refreshing. The length and handle size is a little disproportionate for the thinner ones, but these aren't designed for pockets anyway.
P_20250613_121912.jpg

Milwaukee Magnetic Compact Torpedo Level 4932472122
Useful little thing to always have at hand, saves messing about with a phone app or fetching a longer one when not justified.

Made in Italy 1/4 drive T-handle direct from Beta USA.
Surprisingly comfortable. A very functional length. Shaft diameter is thicker than standard extensions giving extra strength. The sockets I tested all fit very snug with little play and good retention, likely due to the square cut anvil base. Nice tool.

A fatal mistake in sales is questioning the knowledge or judgement of a potential customer, or asking them why they are wanting to make a purchase on a particular item.

A pro closes the deal, makes the sale, takes the money, and says "Thank you."

Don't deal with amateurs - it will come back to bite you in the ***. Unless you really need the item and there are no other options, turn around and walk away.

In a small tool buying situation like this, yes, but otherwise "it depends" - as I'm sure you'll know! But words need to be chosen carefully.

You could also turn it around on him:

That looks like pretty much the *perfect* tool for removing disk brake rotor retaining screws...

P.S. Or a screw knocker. I've had a Sears Craftsman you-hit-it impact driver for decades, but then I discovered Garage Journal. Now I have a screw knocker, too. Air hammer beats up the rusty connections between the threads, you provide the turning.

Eastwood calls theirs a screw buster.

I was helping a young firefighter change the eagle on his helmet the other day when I realized Vise-Grips I have at the station didn't work well for what I was doing.

Cue in the Menards rebate coupon on hand....KIMG2707.JPG

I also realized I didn't have any smaller wrenches either, so a combination set fit the bill.

I also had $5 in HF cash so I picked up this set for $6.99.

In any situation.

One all-too common common mistake made in sales is bad-mouthing a competitive product or manufacturer. Odds are that potential customer might be using the product, or might have used or owned it in the past. Or his brother-in-law is using that brand and raves about it on bowling night.
At that point you are questioning the prospective buyer's judgement - a sure way to alienate a prospective buyer.

Understandably, there are most certainly instances where you just buy the product and ignore the fact that the person you're dealing with is an idiot, but I would have to really really want to buy that thing at that moment in order for that to happen. Otherwise, I just set the merchandise down and walk out the door. (Just had that happen at a "Fred Meyer" here about a month ago when one of their check-out clerks made a smart-*** comment that just didn't sit well with me.)

The wonderful thing about the American free enterprise system is that there are always options. The seller forgets that truth at his own peril.

Interesting, I've not seen such a handle in 1/4" square drive, only hex bit holding (e.g. Wiha). Do you know if anyone else makes them?

Also there should be some standard term for a T handle with side stub, because it's like a P handle but in T shape.

There are contexts where it's expected that the salesperson will help ensure the customer is buying a suitable/optimal product for their needs. This will require finding out about intended use, and tactfully steering the customer on the right track should they have any misconceptions or ill judgements.

But I believe you will appreciate this already, and we just had different interpretations of "questioning the knowledge or judgement of a potential customer, or asking them why they are wanting to make a purchase on a particular item".

To elaborate and clarify on why I said "it depends", e.g. a CNC plasma cutting table is a different situation from a 19mm socket.

We're kind of getting out in the weeds here, but:
In the context of hand tools, auto parts, or remanufactured engines, the prospective buyer arrives with a problem.
It is the seller's responsibility to solve that problem.
In the process of solving the customer's problem, it is the responsibility of the seller to determine the customer's needs. So yes, there's a bit of Q & A involved there. Determining intent is a primary requisite - what does the buyer need/want to do?
If the answer is to just get the car running again so he can get to work in the morning, you sell him the part he needs. If it's removing a bolt with a 19mm head, you sell him a wrench or socket. (Or alternatively, and entire set of wrenches and sockets.)

This doesn't apply in all scenarios, however. If you're selling Victoria's Secret undergarments, or ladies' shoes - you're in a completely different ballpark - selling a non-needed commodity. Same as fuzzy dice, key fobs, sunglasses, or Hawaiian kissing dolls for the back window. In those cases, the task at hand is convincing the prospective buyer that not only do they want the item, but also that they need it.
Jim A. and I sold more "curb feelers" out of the Yelm store than all 8 of our other stores combined. There were only about maybe three blocks of curbing in Yelm, Washington at that time.

Whether or not the item is appropriate/suitable/optimal is a non-issue: Nobody needs a Cadillac Escalade or a Lincoln Navigator, but a good salesman can convince them that they do.

There are no ethics in the world of sales.

Had some points saved up at AutoZone and picked up this metric impact socket set w/ shallows and deeps, 9mm - 30mm. I've been hogging on the same three Craftsman USA impacts for 20+ years and they're worn out. I like the case because it keeps them organized and I can take the set with me to my buddy's shop when we install rear seat kits on golf carts. It'll also prevent me from using chrome on the sizes I don't own in impact. Duralast has a nice selection of tools these days.

My employer recently changed their service awards program to being able to use the points you receive for Amazon purchases.. So I gathered up a few things I had been planning to buy

1000236177.jpg
I like that Roll Lock (Roloc) disc set, enough to check it out on The Jungle. A 46 pc set for $21 is cheap enough, too bad I really don't need them. However, that 70 pc set at $23 was a "BUY NOW" item.
