2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual)

Another small haul:



$5 total.

The "tower o' tools" is cool--I've not seen one like it. Metric sockets on the first tier, SAE on the second--all 1/4" drive--various 1/4" hex drivers on the third, SEA drill bits on top. The hex broach at the very top is amusing--yeah, I'm gonna use this thing as a screwdriver....



The sockets are all All Trade. It's missing a few sockets, one driver bit (9/32 standard) and all the drill bits--but I'm pretty sure I can fill it out, albeit with mixed brands.

The knife got my blood flowing. When I looked at it in the dimly lit garage, I was sure the tang stamp read MARBLES. One getting it back to the shop, it reads RH (PAL) 50. It's a WWII combat knife--though they're often referred to as "Boy Scout" knives. I don't recall the armed hand-to-hand-combat merit badge.





The blade is in good shape--mostly needs cleaning and an edge--and the grip is, too. Pommel and guard are aluminum and also in good shape. It'll clean up nicely.

Without PAL, the Remington Arms enterprise they bought out before WWII that gives that knife its model number prefix (RH = Remington Hunter), and its popularity with all the country boy enlistees, there would be no Union Cutlery Ka-Bar. I have its cousin, the RH-36, posted in the 'Knives' thread here.

On my way back from the post office I saw a "moving sale" sign, so I found the place and picked up a few items:


A handful of screwdrivers/paint can openers and a pair of Craftsman "Tru-Arc" groove-joint pliers.
The little wood-handled number at far left turns out to be a Forsberg, of all things.
The tiny orange-handled number with the brass locknut has "GERMANY" molded into the handle.
The homeowner gave me a spring of fresh rosemary. Yum Yum.
Stopped at "Delightful Market" and picked up some Argentine Malbec to celebrate my good fortune or drown my sorrows, such as the case may be.

I'll have to go find some yummy lamb and fix the stove so I can use that rosemary!

More rusty goodness … Finished my chores and headed to the 2nd day of a moving sale in a nearby town. The pictures showed tons of tools including a locally fabricated Matco top and bottom box that appeared to marked $25! Alas, I couldn’t get there yesterday due to work commitments. To no surprise, the seller told me the boxes sold first thing …

Even arriving late on 50% off day, the picking was still good. I quickly started to pile things up that the seller put in this cool old box.


It will take me awhile to work through everything …


But, here are some highlights. First is a Crescent 4” T-Handle screwdriver. Even here in ‘Crescent Country,’ I don’t find a lot of these.




Lots of Craftsman items including a 1/4” drive deep socket set, Automatic Nut Driver, and tape measure.


A TJC tap and die set from Japan (missing 1 piece).


Lots of Stanley and this Utica adjustable.


A couple of speeders - 1/2” Indestro and 3/8” Proto.


And lots more … $30 total.

Not been out much recently, but had been keeping my eyes open on FBM for some cupboards for the barn.

found some advertised a little further away than i would have liked, but when I got there, it turns out they were clearing a factory. Budget and trailer space limited what I brought back… however, I did get 4 big tool cabinets (2m high, 1m wide and 56cm deep) and a couple of drawer units too.



most of the cabinets are just plain shelves, although all of them are punched on the inside of the doors to take fixings



one of the cabinets is also fitted out with drawers however



i paid real money, but very sensible prices - especially given the drawer unit…

Was late to an estate sale. Not much of the Snap-on was left.

The only thing really exciting in my haul was the 1/4”x5.5mm semi deep.

The diagonals and air hammer chisel are Snap-on, too.

I should have gotten out of bed a lot earlier. I missed a LOT of Snap-on, and it was priced cheap.

One sale looked promising close to home so we arrived a few minutes after opening. I heard a familiar voice as I was looking around and found that the neighbors had arrived even earlier than we did. They had a pretty good haul going so I started looking a little more quickly. We came home with these.
The next sale was a yard sale and I picked up an old but working DeWalt job site radio/charger.
I found a Dremel set at the last sale but haven’t taken a picture yet.

2 fleas (col and church) and quite a few YS's - Planned and TOO's - not a lot to show for it...

Col Flea produced the Craftsman push drill for a buck - works and has most of the bits.

Church Flea got the 4" adjustable marked "Germany" for $2

One YS got the SO sliding tee and the small Long C Craftsman breaker to the right for $2

another got the Vaughn ca opener, Tru-Fit combo, Plvmb combo, Proto pebble DOE and from the next pic the remigton 870 forearm grip for $3





Emergency candles and wood tray/box (finger jointed) were $3 all:





Tripp-Lite 140 Watt inverter - opened but seems unused for $5






And Last TOO i found this laser cut Travel trailer model for $2. pretty cool and seems to be all there with extras:.



Had to have it just for the back sign!

Snap-on socket rail with misc. sockets (Plomb, P&C, Snap-on, MAC, etc.), and the contents of a Tru-test box:

misc. SK, Craftsman, etc. wrenches, Snap-on S71 and extension, brass brush, Dunlap nippers and ratcheting driver (both Germany), among other things.

All of these sockets came from an old buddy’s booth.

-Williams 3/8 sockets.
-several hardy hole inserts
-some Hinsdale swivels and screwdriver bit
-unmarked Pipe plug insert bit
-Blue-Point 10mm
-Williams 9/32 and 1/4” stuff
-Power driver bits by Williams, Cornwell, Proto
-18 reefer bits, all Bonney except one Duro.
And the highlights:
-A half dozen Craftsman Vanadium 3/8 sockets
-10pcs Craftsman Vanadium 9/32 drive!

3 bay ***** majorly for the vanadium sockets! Not common/ very rare!

At first I was overlooking these little buggers and tossing them to the side with the cheap sockets. Then I thought I saw Vanadium spelled out, and took notice of the light markings on these tiny guys. Imagine my excitement as I kept finding one more and then another and another in the tray. I circled back before leaving and found the tenth one.

Now that everything is down in the basement, here are the finds for the day:

My favorite wife attends a bunch of garage sales every year looking for used clothing for her online store, and sometimes I go with her. I have almost never found anything worth posting on this thread, until yesterday.

$120 for a tote of Makita and a tote of sandpaper and chisels and six new-with-tags clamps!

I would have paid that much just for the pair of Bessey clamps and still thought I got a deal. I think there is $100 worth just in sandpaper!

You might want to look at the value of that Kant Twist clamp. What size is it?

No, no Bell System. The only marking is this and I haven’t figured it out yet. Not sure. The Kant twist clamp is a #6

Looks like those are crimping pliers, not wire-twisters.

A #6 Kant Twist is 6" opening--right? that's HUGE. Mine are #1--tiny.
