The OTHER guy's insurance should be paying for all of it, including the tow, storage, rental, etc...

Glad you weren't hurt, and no tools were damaged!

Mike
Michigan is a "no fault" state even though the other guy is getting cited, I think for running a red light(I'm not sure as I was trying very hard not to lose my sh%t) My deductible is waived, other driver told tow truck they could keep his Ford Exploder as scrap, we didn't even exchange info, cop has it all in report. Michigan is also another great state with super high ins premiums AND we cannot sue for diminished value. It is a farce. But thankfully no one was hurt, truck can be fixed, no air bags deployed due to the location of impacts.

Michigan And Florida too!
Well, several hours and one budding case of tennis elbow later, got them all shined up. Rest assured Beerhippie, nothing abrasive touched the tin linings. A few odd pieces (the kettle, ice bucket, and that one odd-colored saute pan) turned out to be no-name, but everything else was French.

After some deliberation with my wife, we chose a medium saute pan and sauce pan to add to the kitchen, and decided to list the remaining lot on FB at a ridiculous price and see what happens. Well, I woke up a few hours later to 33 separate offers, and promptly sold the lot that evening FOR A THOUSAND FREAKING DOLLARS.

Church rummage sale ($50): Fetco CBS-2052e - 1.5 gallon twin coffee brewer.

The church got a memorial gift for a new coffee machine and they didn't need two. Saw it on Thursday for $100 and decided to leave it behind in the hope that somebody else could use it. Went back today for the 50% of sale and there it was in all its caffeinated glory.

Went to probably 6 sales between yesterday and today and alas only the first sale had much in my wheelhouse. Come to find out guys selling off some of their fathers/friends tools from when he owned gas stations, I jokingly said, then where are all the Snap-On tools ? And they chuckled and the one guys goes my brother took them all ! We had a good laugh about that.

From the sale, a bunch of Vulcan SAE offset box wrenches and Snap-On needle nose pliers and Blue Point adjustable with both picked up at another sale with minimal tools.

Stopped at another sale with some loose Snap-on tools in some rough Craftsman boxes but they wanted to sell the boxes and tools within as one so not appealing to me. Probably could have stopped back later to see if they were willing to break up the stuff but decided against it.

Didn’t expect much today. I hit a church fundraiser sale full of harbor freight stuff. I landed the basically new Vaughn 21” super bar, Irwin screw extractors , and a complete set of bondhus Allen wrenches for $20. Across the street was a “quilting sale” I accidentally walked to. A very nice lady pointed out a few tools on the floor. A Columbian 504 and a Japanese “AC” vise both for $20. Another sale netted a full gallon of Coleman fuel for $1.

My day today included the 35th annual block sale for about 20 streets in a housing development area in the town next to me, plus 7 other planned stops and a few TOOs.

Most came from the "block" sale. its a lot lower participation that say 10 years ago and its an older neighborhood so had a lot of original owners. not so much anymore - lots of turnover. But I did better than any time since COVID today, so maybe its starting to recover? other YS's were under 50% .

Anyway, at the big block sale, I started off with 2 very large bar clamps in depth of grip 5" to center! $10

C1-Big-Jorgansen.jpg

Some "Garage clearing" after I had picked the silver plate server; and I asked for, and got permission to, dig through their "tool Storage" which were a dozen 3X5 card file drawers an foot deep:

The server mentioned, plus 4 drivers - one is a Proto LA, Hose nozzle, Estwing 16 oz hammer with intact leather grip, broken BP, tappet - I'll likely mod it for a special use, - Craftsman square wit Early geometric font, SO DBE, and a "no name" 6" Masterench style pipe wrench. $5 all!

C2-Estwing-CM-BP-s-O-server-Nozzle-drivers.jpg

A freebie - and they said "motor's on its last legs" - I think its the gearbox needing some grease, so I'll try that, but if it lasts for hacking my ivy down this year, I'll be happy.

C5-B-D-trimmer.jpg

A buck each: None Better tappet - needs de-rusting, Cornwell combo, Thorsen 10mm combo

C3-NB-Cronwell-Thorsen.jpg

A free GS at the block sale - I grabbed the SS ice bucket to put stuff in - SS ice bucket, 3 phone Stylus, poncho, emergency blanket, 4 bottles, and the purple vase? jar? something.

C4-Free-bucket-Stylus-poncho-blanket-bottles.jpg

The rest were Yard sales:

A small bag, a fan and the Slinky $2 all:

Y1-bag-Slinky-Fan.jpg

$7 for more Jorgansen bar clamps, a wood clamp that may be Jorgansen, an extension marked 2732, an AMPCO ALBR "W1" Flange alignment wedge, and no name tweezers:

rgansen-clamps-Ampco-Tweezers-extension-Wood-clamp.jpg

$1 for 4 glass vials with glass beads - beads to SWMBO vials to me - and a Stanley No. 20 driver.

Y3-Beadsd-an-Glass-tubes-Stanley-Driver.jpg

And last but not least, a Lace Leaf Japanese Maple in a big pot. considering what these go for, I was happy to shell out $30!

No, officer, it's a Japanese maple....

Got to a garage sale that advertised some snap-on and proto stuff - picked up this shallow & deep metric socket set:
tempImage3CdDvJ.jpg
He also had a 3/4 torque wrench, but figured I don't have much use for that (maybe crank bolts axle nut... but it would just take up so much space). Garage sale next door also had this hard cover Chilton's Datsun repair book for Datsuns, picked it up for $1 to gift to a 240Z buddy:

Here is my haul from two sales. First was the final day of an estate sale, moving **** out at mostly bargain prices. Had to wait while one pro argued with the pro seller about her valuation of something. She finally cut him off to check me out. $5 for all the junk. On the tailgate, several pieces in the center might be piano tuning tools. The longer lighter handle is a pin vise, the shorter darker w green dot might hold tuner tools, but looked like an exotic wood. The clamping method did not look like anything we normally see, so some research required. Three X-acto items far left, and a long drill bit. The pin extractor in front looked fun, again possibly piano tuning, aluminum framed. Two forstner bits, a XceLite and SO looking screwdrivers. Giant brace driven slotted screwdriver, and Craftsman ratchet RA screwdriver. And a roll of medical tape, we seem to go thru a lot with dogs in the house.

Far left is a 5gal water jug, it will debut at next weekends doggie rescue event.

No sales listed in town today so we headed to NV over Kingsbury Grade to appreciate the different view of the Carson valley. We immediately headed for what looked like a promising sale on the far side of Carson City. Prices were full blown eBay retail and most of what I picked up remained at the sale. I found what looked to be an early S-K box that was filthy, some overpriced screw starters and a Walden DOE wrench. As I was leaving I apparently made the seller unhappy with some comments about his garage sale not being eBay.

IMG_3336.jpeg

We checked out a TOO Estate Sale in Minden next a found a few items. My wife grabbed the leaf and the little brass spray watering pump.IMG_3342.jpeg
The next stop was the second day of an estate sale in Gardnerville and judging by the marked prices it was a good thing we hadn’t come on the first day. They accepted my offer which was kind of a surprise. IMG_3343.jpeg
The last sale was a TOO in Gardnerville and had some interesting items at VERY friendly prices. The hacksaw was my second Star, a Mossberg auto wrench, a cool early pipe wrench and some welders vise grips.IMG_3351.jpeg

Hit up the PowerLand swap meet today with my wife and son. They were moving a bit quicker than I would have liked but we wanted to beat the heat (that ended up not coming). Still had a good time with my wife and son and they found a bunch of not pictured items.

Top left-
Craftsman heritage- blow torch with decent logo and instructions on them-$20
- mobilgas Rooney reproduction sign $30
-3 proto catalogs (2 are missing covers but I paid $10 for all 3)
-Dodge wartime WC 1/2 truck parts catalog. When I found it, I didn't look at the cover real good....just saw the 1/2 ton truck and the dcpd on the cover and bought it. When I got home and looked at it I couldn't believe it. Wartime date and from the war department.
-super in-depth dive on IJA planes from ww2. For my son.

IMG_3914.jpeg

Top left- m1 cleaning rod ww2 pouch for my son-$1
-long c dbe (met with Provincial and traded for the dbe and the ratchet)
-heritage era valve spring spreader-$5
-heritage soft face hammer $1
-sk marked vise grips. **never seen a set of these before**
-proto mfd 1312 hammer,
-proto 3/4 socket
-rusty 1/4 drive vintage snap on sockets. I'm really interested to get these cleaned up, just because 1/4 drive old snap on stuff isn't common.

On Friday, I hit two yard sales, finding the following:
54682373535_b15101486b_b.jpg
At the first sale I picked up what I am pretty sure is a North Bros. eggbeater, and the other sales yielded an Indestro driver, tap wrench with #5 taper reamer, and a set of Wiss fisherman's scissors, in a Proto Fisherman's Friend sheath:
54681221397_2256ebf587_b.jpg

On Saturday, I hit the same Steam Show flea market as Smokeshow, although I didn't see him or Provicial as I had hoped too. I did see Oregon Rock Crusher and had a good conversation with him. Here is what I found:
54682034721_563c11944f_b.jpg
I always start with the dollar tables, and then check everything else, so I found the General drive pin punch base, MAC long Phillips, Armstrong T wrench on those tables, and then picked up the Cleveland brace bits in original wood holder, Duro/Indestro 1/4" breaker, and my favorite find, the leather pouch:
54682265908_b63c1d2043_b.jpg
a Wiley and Russel Automobile tap and die set. It is missing a few dies and all of the taps, but considering its age, the condition is great.

Of course, me being me, I had to pick up some paper
54682275289_86d5399c26_b.jpg
some '40s copies of The Model Engineer, an interesting magazine on steam cars and planes from the '30s, a book on model steam engines, and a cool book on motorcycle repair from 1953.

Interestingly, I did pick up that Craftsman valve tool that Smokeshow purchased, but passed as I am not a Craftsman collector. I do plan to go back on the last day of the SteamUp to see what bargains I come across. Always a good time.

Nice, Smoke. How did Provincial find that ratchet and relinquish it that easily?

Cool cabinet! Nice to find old catalogs.

Don- cool find on the Bonner pipe wrench!
Prov relinquished the ratchet and dbe because he wanted to trade me for a nice plomb wood handle body file I had. I think we both came away happy with the trade!

Oh, the Proto fisherman’s friend is a good one! I want to find one as they have the cool fish logo cast grips

Almost didn't stop at this neighborhood sale as they are usually the same homes selling the same overpriced household stuff.
However sitting in a driveway, was an older Craftsman box , so I took a look.
Most of the drawers held hardware & junky tools, but drawer number 2 held a few Snap-on pieces.
I kept digging as another fella was looking closely over my shoulder making comments like, "damn", & "I lost my screwdriver like that one".
I saw no sticker on the box, so I asked about pricing.
They said they wanted $125. for the box & all contents.
Rats...
"Well how about just for these pieces I dug out?"
"What do you offer?"
They agreed to take my $25.
All late 90's stuff:
Red Rat screwdriver & #2 phillips
3/8" 2 extensions & universal
1/4 Rats long & regular 830s
3/8 stubby 830 (all ratchets work well, but feel almost clunky compared to the dual 80's I have become used to)
6" dikes 86ACP
Also 3/8 SK Wayne, 5WR Peterson, & a 1/2 C-man flying V.

Yes he does!

Went to one YS today to look at something I saw in the pics, but it was way smaller than I'd hoped.

The consolation prize were these Coleman (I was surprised to see) spiral tent stakes, and the finger-less gloves. Not fond of the adverting, but a Milwaukee Marker may take care of most of that. $5 all

I've been using spiral dog leash anchors for decades in soft stuff, but I'd never seen them marketed for that. These are shorter and not as many spirals, but should do for some uses:

Sunday off for the first time in ages, so headed over to my local Bootsale (English flea!) for a rummage. Despite my extremely late arrival (hey I was lazing in bed for the first time in ages!) and the sellers packing up, amongst the usual junk I found these for a few pounds. Of course everything was filthy so a scrub later here we are:

IMG_2294.jpeg

Big one handed thumb turn wrench is a Sheffield “Footprint” wrench UK made but I think foreign owned now (Rothenberger?) mine for £6 @ $8, about a 1/5th of retail and doesn't appear to have worked very hard at all. UK Roebuck 6” adjustable was £2 @ $2.70 and judging by the square hole and the finish is an Irega spanish private label.

Vice grips, but known to viewers this side of the Atlantic as “Mole Grips” and prior to the whole internet thing us British thought we’d invented them, but know it now looks like we stole the design 😂

Made in later years in Newport Wales, these (and similar others) are the only Welsh tools I own. Quite possibly in need of a fresh spring, but bought in a lot with the stubby screwdrivers, toy adjustable wrench (stamped Germany surprisingly) and the worlds worst G clamp for a bargain £1.50 @ $2.

Mole Grips wiki

The 7mm nut spinner is a flexible shaft and branded “Jubilee” who are the main British hose clip supplier, this one just a £1 @ $1.34, fair enough quality, so quite a good value morning picking. Makers marks below.

IMG_2295.jpeg IMG_2296.jpeg IMG_2297.jpeg IMG_2298.jpeg

Finally as I left an old guy (well older than me!) noticed my plastic bag of grubby tools looked ready to bust, and hit on the upsell. “You need a tool box” and pointed to the little blue 14” Ital box. Well loved and no tote tray with slightly bent handles I was ready to pass on the offer until “Yours for a £1” and I couldn’t get the cash out quick enough!
