IMG_5786.jpegIMG_5787.jpegPut both rear axles back in today, thought I would be able to get the front left done today as well and be done but when I was trying to get the rusted screw out the hold the ball joint retainer in place one stripped out, I tried pounding a larger Allen bit in that I had ground down a hair, tried heating it, oh blaster, tried pound a torx 30 in, no luck. Used a drill bit to drill the head off the screw in hopes there would be enough bolt left to get a pair of vice grips on after the retainer was off, there wasn’t. So I drilled a little hole in what was tensing of the bolt in the strut and hammered a torx 15 into it and it came out😀. Got the press in ball joint out using the special Polaris ball joint tool and called it a day on a good note. Tomorrow I will change the 4 wheel bearings in that front left and pound in the new ball joint and the old girl will be ready to go. Getting that retainer screw out made my night, lol

Well, it isn't much but I made another step in the right direction in the garage today. We are getting the siding replaced on the back half of our building at work. They are just scrapping the old siding. I picked up 4 of the best pieces and brought them home. I slid them into the trusses of the garage. Now I have additional storage for some of the items that are clogging my lower shelves. One step at a time. Hopefully soon I'll be back on my Fairlane Wagon project!

Attached the casters to my Disc Sander Stand that is under construction. Found that one attachment point does not line up, rather than cut it out and reweld it;I will get some 10mm flat washers and use them as spacers to fill the gap.
I need Metric washers because I am using casters from a discarded garment rack I found in the alley.
The 3/8 washers I have just will not fit the stems of the casters and I don’t keep 7/16 fasteners in my shop.

Taught the kids the intricate art of sanding poly smooth to prep for the final coat on the daughter's desk. It's not perfect, but it'll serve it's purpose.

We'll install it in her room on Saturday.
You may know this already but I’ll post it anyway.
After your final poly coat, if you still have the inevitable dust nibs, you can use a brown paper grocery bag to smooth the surface.
It has worked for me when I figured I had enough finish on a project and just didn’t want to lightly sand the surface again.

I've used my automotive buffer on furniture before. I'll have to remember the paper bag thing.

I've had the same one on my pool for 20 years. Mine is a Hayward. There's times that a brand name counts, and this is one of them. However, you would want to install it vertically. And you'd need a foot or more of straight pipe before it. And they're meant to run in clear water. A stream of **** or the wrong chemistry could possibly jam it in the closed position.

Hmm. ****. I installed it in the horizontal run. I don’t have enough room for it to be in the vertical, 12”+ from the pump. The water should be pretty clean, just rainwater. There’s probably some sand or other dirt in it, at least on the first hit. After a few hits, the output water is generally clear.

Maybe I killed it.

I won’t be able to take a look at it until spring.

Any other good ideas for a NO switch to activate closed on water flow in a 2” PVC pipe?

Pulled apart the centre console (Camry) to replace the lighter socket “power ports” with something more capable.

Managed to drop a screw down in to here. Took a while to locate and retrieve it.

IMG_8055.jpeg

Got the box out ok, that’s pretty easy as long as you don’t drop a screw.

IMG_8049.jpeg

Getting the port out *****, though. It snaps in to place, not really intended to ever be removed.

IMG_8050.jpegIMG_8051.jpeg

The new fast charge USB C port was a good fit, but not a tight one. I made a washer from scrap stainless to make it fit tight.

IMG_8052.jpeg

New port installed.

IMG_8056.jpeg

Trying a new MagSafe phone mount charger. The box door closes ok with it in place (no phone). Not sure I’ll be able to get the phone out easily, though.

While I was at it, I replaced the other port too. These little USB fast charge ports are cheap and fit wherever a lighter socket fits.

Decided that keeping the $1500 camper made more sense than spending close to $80k to get a Brinkley that checked them boxes so …… I redid the electrical inlet so it’s not a filthy mess when I unhook the cord. Hello 30a marine power inlet. Mmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm. Finger snap.
IMG_4632.jpeg
Younger me took the time to finagle a few chunks of 2x4 behind that inlet so I can tear it all apart when I leave a campground in a hungover haze. Seemed like a good idea.

I stuck a $200 EMS surge protector in the camper so I wouldn’t have to worry about burning it down as much. Some guy on the YouTubes said it could happen and almost everything on the internet’s is true so I got one lol

Put the car in race trim for coosbay.. My class was second from the bottom today and they got close to running my class and then had two oil downs ( both lanes) track destroyed. Oiled from startline all the way down the track into the pits. Race canceled, put the car back into street trim and off the Woodburn race way. Hit my two check points, ( did the " mandatory " trailer burnouts) Got in at 7.00pm will be making double runs tomorrow to make up for coosbay https://www.facebook.com/redwoodrally https://www.facebook.com/reel/1447592549849699/
Woodburn today... no drive pics from coosbay as I lost my co driver for the day.. fast track today got my missed run in coosbay done and my run for Woodburn. Ran a personal best with the car today. It keeps getting faster with suspension/ shock adjustments, two step adjustments and tire pressure. Some picks of a few cars at woodburn and the drive to Madras this afternoon...( 270 entered into the event not sure how many are still in as parts have been breaking)

I think I love the old "funny car/hot rods" better than the big muscle cars... I know, sacrilege!
Nope all good. Thats whats fun about drag and drives. A very wide range of rigs... that was a very very small posting of cars... this one 2800 h.p on the dyno... ran the 1/8 in 4.85 seconds... then put in street trim and driven 200 plus miles to the next track each day. 3 tracks down. We will see if he survived todays drive

Yesterday I finished emptying the remaining mixed contents of yard tools/supplies, painting tools/supplies, brooms etc. from the Castrol Oil Cabinet I built some time go.

Once it was empty, I installed some peg board and a couple shelves to the upper inside of the cabinet. Also added an old red metal wire rack shelf on the door along with a paper towel holder and a couple hook racks.

The upper section now holds all the car and motorcycle cleaning and polishing supplies, micro-fiber towels, washing brushes, sponge mits etc. The lower section and inside door area will hold all the oil & grease supplies, tools and 3 Ton jack stands. I'll be adding a shelf on the inside door over the grease gun tips to hold a few oil filters next.

Likely be adding and changing some things as needed to accomodate more stuff in the near future. Here's a couple pics.1758866661117.jpeg

Horizontal is suboptimal, but still functional.

Since you already have the tee installed, you could just buy the screw in bit from Pentair or Hayward.

Cleaned out a few storage totes, got painting supplies, electrical boxes, breakers, odds and ends. Decided long ago to quit painintg in the house, haven't done any electrical stuff for a while, found a box of speaker wire and av cords. All headed out the door, no more saving for tomorrow.

I bought one of those too. I was worried about protecting from improper wired shore power when on the road. I have had it trip, so I guess it works. Seeing actual input voltage/AMP is useful too....for my nerdy mind that wants to know....

Mount the display where you can get to it. If you ever run generator power with a floating neutral, you will need to slide the "override" switch.

I find allowing the box stores to store supplies until I need them saves a lot of space in my shop. Given how expensive it is to build or buy storage space, I can accept buying new sometimes.

I'm making an easy start of a Friday morning by sitting and wondering how long I can put off giving the snowblower its fall tune-up....

Frost on the windshield all week has me thinking of winter and what I need to winterize around the brewery/pub.

Summer's short at 4,000' ASL and 45 1/2 North.

Every little inch of my garage needs to be enjoyable, including the BBQ area and lounge. Plans are to add in a second roller shade as well two outdoor ceiling fans. Wife aint complaining about my little fascination of lighting it all up sky high!66188966-84E0-451C-9A78-1DB21A6DCBAE.jpeg
Interested in your roller shade enclosure project when you get to it.

Keep us in mind for a project thread.

I got the 8" Ford axles and third member out of Clarence, my 1948 Ford panel truck. Now it's time to evaluate and get parts ordered; or bought if I can find stuff locally. Third member rebuild kit and gaskets/copper washers/anything that's not included in the rebuild kit. Also axle seals and bearings.

This all came about when it started to get a vibration between 60 and 70 mph. I thought that the driveshaft needed to be balanced so I removed it. That's when I discovered that the pinion bearing was shot and wobbled.

Sounds good. I’ll probably do that. Name brand is worth it? Probably not all that expensive for a switch.
You're thousands of miles away most of the time? I'd buy once, cry once.

You know how sometimes you look back on your life and think of things you'd like to do over if you could?

54813841330_f111157802_o.jpg

That's one thing I can do over.

I haven't done any bright finish on wood in a few years and got greedy. I laid down unthinned polyurethane with a brush, resulting in a very uneven finish, with laminated bugs, bubbles and dust. Once I get it all sanded down and restained, I'll take it inside the warehouse--the least buggy and dusty place I can find--and wipe thinned poly on with a cloth.

Just letting it sit in the sun for an hour or two longer so it doesn't clog my sandpaper so quickly.
