What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Drew, cut, and bent something out earlier but it turned out to be too thick.

Ended up throwing it away as I'll make another in 1/8" as opposed to 3/16".



Being 3/16" and using a budget-friendly brake means some warping due to the features.





Also, my back feels the tiniest bit better and the kiddo wanted to play so I joined along (he only plays if I join him).

Don't mind me, I'm terrible at drums but I'll learn just so he can follow along.

I got the 8" Ford axles and third member out of Clarence, my 1948 Ford panel truck. Now it's time to evaluate and get parts ordered; or bought if I can find stuff locally. Third member rebuild kit and gaskets/copper washers/anything that's not included in the rebuild kit. Also axle seals and bearings.

This all came about when it started to get a vibration between 60 and 70 mph. I thought that the driveshaft needed to be balanced so I removed it. That's when I discovered that the pinion bearing was shot and wobbled.

I'm heading into town momentarily to pick up the rebalanced driveshaft and two axle seals. I looked through my stash of 8" Ford 3rd members and picked up a good one to just replace the pumpkin instead of rebuilding the one that was in it.

Should be driving it tomorrow. I won't have time to finish it up before I have to clean up and get to my Model A club meeting early this evening.

EDIT: I meant to hit the send button around noon today but obviously forgot. I did go to town and got the drive shaft and seals this afternoon.

Look at french cleats, I use them a lot and hey allow for a lot of mounting flexibility. I usually cut my own.

Clay barred the ‘49 Caddy, finished putting Griot’s Garage Best of Show Spray Wax o. The ‘60 Corvette and started on the Caddy.

Talking with the Griot’s rep at Barrett-Jackson, this stuff has micro polymers that will fill very minor swirl marks.

Drove 20 minutes each way to pick up this table ( minus the dart board which I had ) put the table in my shop, set the dart board in it, set the glass on it. Just need to clean up the dart board and make a few modifications to get the dart board to sit 1/4” lower so the glass will sit flush on the lip. My buddies birthday coming up October 13th, we usually drink a few beers and play darts once a week at his place, I had seen a dart board table for sale on Marketplace for 75.00, I offered 40.00, then 50.00, no go. So I found this end table on Marketplace for 30.00, got it for 20.00. Shouldn’t need anything else

Not in my shop, but in my buddy's. He's a retired Dodge and Mercedes mechanic so he helped me swap out the exhaust manifolds on my 19 Ram 1500. They're known to warp and crack and sure enough, both sides were cracked. Dealer quoted 1200.00 parts were 500.00 and labor was lunch and a 12 pack for afterwards...(and a promise to help on a future fence replacement)

He's got an amazing space and 2 giant snap-on boxes with everything needed.
I was going to attempt this myself and honestly, I'm glad I didn't. It was kind of a PITA and we need some long extensions with swivel sockets that I didn't have.

He recommended I buy the drill guide tool since the assumption was that at least one bolt would break. Thankfully, with lots of PB Blaster prior it all went pretty smoothly. Hopefully I can return it to O'Reilly and get my 150.00 back

This is just a recent post I made, and you're free to dig into it as much as you'd like as it's an ongoing trend

That's just the cherry on top

At first, he was a marketing genius by genuinely showcasing the use of any and all his tools

He would offer actual instruction on how to implement them efficiently and that made him really popular

But he started to constantly put said tools up on a pedestal, and not only challenging other companies, but bashing their products in his YouTube videos

The worst part is how he spouted the constant Made in the US thing and even had a video showing his tooling being machined at some shop in the US

Once credible sources began to call out that his tables were actually made in China (with proof of the company in Zaozhuang I believe) he disabled commenting on tons of his videos

I believe the molds for his tooling also came from China and I think they're being made there as well

We won't even touch on the tons of feedback and reviews that are silenced, whether its a review on the site that never gets published or the threads that get deleted on his private forum

If you say something even remotely negative about any part of his process, it's dealt with swiftly

Great example was a member on his forum had trouble with the assembly of a specific item

Another member suggested "it's odd that Fireball wouldn't just provide instructions..." and he got an email later that day explaining that his comment was deleted, and a warning about going against the rules

Yeah, **** that company and **** the owner

That's when another member reminded me how they also go in chiming on other company videos to stir **** up

No, thankfully... it would have been a real pain to drill them out. Space is tight, they're angled upward and there are a couple that are tucked way in there behind **** on the driver's side

We called our local Door Guys (company name) two weeks ago. Called again Monday and we're "on the list". Meanwhile, we now have two doors that don't open automatically--the other one died yesterday with a horrible noise.

This is strange.

I'd unplugged the drive for the warehouse door as it was making horrible grinding sounds and not moving when attempting to operate.

This AM, we got out the old man-basket for the forklift and I went up to check it out. I had a coworker plug the drive back in a try to lift the door so I could find out what was wrong. The door works perfectly. No odd sounds, nothing. The limit switches--a real PITA on this drive--are still working as they should.

Gotta admit, this does boost my rep a bit--Timm took a look at it and fixed it without doing anything!

I have some vague idea that the release clutch for manual use may have not been fully engaging, but no way to test or prove it.

Hopefully, it keep working 'til the Door Guys make it out here.

Now I'm going to try the "laying on of hands" on the other non-functioning door....

Yesterday, I cleaned jockey boxes after the weekend "Alpen Fest"--our version of Ocktoberfest.





I built a new tool for blowing the water out of the jockey box lines:



It's starting to get below freezing at night here and we store the 'boxes in an unheated Conex, so there can't be any water in them--especially not in the cooling coil



which cost around $100 each. With that new tool, I can replace one of the faucets with it, turn the air pressure down to 30 psi and blow all the air out without wasting CO2 like we used to. The plant air is dry and nano-filtered, so fine for this. For a little extra insurance, I squirt some 99.8% ethanol into the lines before closing them off.

Other than that, I attempted genocide on the shop flies again--it's that time of year--then spent some more time following a mower around the yards. The flies are so bad now I have to spray the shop with pyrethrin spray first thing in the morning and again in the afternoon just to be able to work in there.

I need to open all the shop doors, put on a respirator, and blow everything out into the back field. I'm just afraid of starting a dust devil and sending it across the neighborhood.

As for me... more 3d printing of stuff for Halloween decorations and house LEDs.

I thought that was hypocritical of him to do so....he wanted complete control over his reign in the fabrication world.

Then I started looking and found his stuff being made in China.

I've followed his stuff for some years, but that doesn't say much really cause the man behind the camera can be an altogether different person in real life.

I have a lot of his shim kits, magnets, fabrication squares and lots of clamps so it's not like I didn't support him at all at one point.

Then I started seeing the many threads come up regarding the maximus bar clamps where people were stretching the threads easily.

People chimed in from other forums stating how they left a review on Fireball's site to warn others about the weak threads only to see their reviews not get published.

It wasn't until he started going hard against other table manufacturers (such as Siegmund) when people called Jason out about his own Chinese tables.

Thought the torture tests were entertaining, but they weren't a real test of how they'd be used in the real world.

If anything, it convinced me that

1. Chinese tables are indeed a pretty good value, when purchased from a company that's fully transparent about their products (and provides customer support in the US) and not from some dude that flat out lies about his own Chinese product, peddling it off as American made

2. When I upgrade from my current fixtures, it'll be for a Siegmund table

Put the shed storage I moved to install a wall to wall salvage shelf, back after adding more hooks (lantern storage) and hung more lanterns as well.

Little project to make my camp flagpole/lantern hook have one more function - pole for the tarp/canopy it usually is attached to.

I needed a hook and it needed to be fairly heavy:

I got ahead of the pics but the process is the same, I clamped 2 same size deep sockets in the vise with the lead jaw covers on for better grip without scratching, and wrapped the 3/16ths steel rod around those to create a hook.

I needed a small "Eye" (fish hook style) for a 5/16ths wing bolt, and used two 3-/8ths drill bits: but you get the idea here for the bigger hook:



Start of the Eye, - needs to be 90 deg from the hook:







I wanted a full eye so I over bent it and went past the hook shank; then clamped the shank in the vise and continued the wrap:






I made sure the eye fit the 5/16ths bolt, and hack sawed the excess off, then bent the eye flat. it works:



I wire wheeled both parts, and painted them my "Regulation Orange" I use to help find the bits when dropped on the forest floor...

It's so ******* enormous but I'm not in a space that would be able to remove it to an exterior location. But, everything else is being removed and hung on walls. Space is everything lol
