Yes, the new extension will fit inside the handle of all the previous Titanium 1/4" drive ratchets. The square drive on it, however, Koken ZEAL sockets will barely fit.

Only a handful will be leftover most likely - making less than 50 of them, scrapped 2 already...let me know if you want me to keep one aside for you.

I've heard the liver can regenerate 😁

Holy ****, the ratchet is so cool and the CrN (Dark Iridescent) looks awesome. All of my motorcycles primarily use hex head (Honda) or torx (BMW) fasteners, so the 1/4" bit holder will actually get used, but the sockets not so much. Just cool to have. Man, this would make a sweet gift (sends link to wife...)
No kidding, my wife actually did look at this and got me one as a gift, it just arrived this weekend!

TRO Ratchet.jpg

I had her use it and compare to an old 1/4" Craftsman so she could feel the tangible difference between an excellent tool and a mediocre one. This thing is stupid light and has almost zero backdrag. It's an absolute joy to use. Sure, I didn't need to pull the clutch cover, but I immediately had to do something with this as soon as I got it.

My only nitpick is some way to keep the extension inside the handle, like a 1/4" drive recess inside the handle so the extension can insert and stay there. I think that would be handy. But it is a magnificent little ratchet, and with the sockets and bit holder a remarkable kit. I'm very happy to own one and will enjoy using the piss out of it. Top notch work TRO!

Received my ratchet and socket set today. Excellent craftsmanship.
Thank you sir!

My set arrived yesterday, the second of these ratchets for me and just as nice as the first one, the complete set is lovely.
Glad you like it on first impressions so far - I hope it serves you well!

@ricleh and @dutchgray thank you both for picking up the new set and continuing to support our small tool production. 🍻

@Dankotaru Wow. Thank you for taking the time to post this up.

She's an absolute legend for that....even down to the right coating!

I have a 90's Craftsman 1/4" drive too - the comparison gets no different than that...

I love it.

It might be on this thread where I posted up a holding mechanism. Things popped up in production and it didn't make the cut. Without the "fluted barrel" cutouts on the extension, it actually held itself in for a bit on suction alone.

Maybe I can shoot one out to you...

My ratchet arrived today and almost broke my brain.
Hahaha. That's the reaction we're going for! As far as geared mechanisms go, this may be top dog...

Sure, I read everything you wrote but it did not prepare me for this ratchet. I cannot believe how light it is and how low the back drag is. This thing is smooth.
I talked it up enough, so I'm glad it lived up to the hype so far. We've benchmarked a lot, and it's smoother than even the legendary ratchet from Japan - especially in high speed ratcheting.

If you had a 3/8 available I would order it today.
There's been a lot of interest in this size but it may actually be the 1/2" released next since we have that one already sorted out.

It's the best drive size to showcase the lightweight, low back drag design. When you can handle a 1/2" like a tiny 3/8", it'll REALLY show why we went with this design.

Website shows they are out of stock now?
We do very small production runs of these...

About half of the ratchets went to Japanese buyers as soon as they were listed - we didn't even advertise them.

We do have a few "Racer Special" ratchets left that are as-machined - they were used for testing coating colors. There might be another run coming up soon, but we're just recovering from this last batch before starting up again.

We might also do a "One of One" ratchet that will be done to the absolute max.

I have been lurking the TRO webpage and this thread since early 2024 waiting for the opportunity own one of these. The wait was absolutely worth it. I received mine today and the case is a perfect metaphor for a treasure chest.

The attention to detail that goes into producing something like this is incredible. From the materials to the ergonomics and tolerances this is an amazing set. Everyone mentions the low backdrag, but I am amazed how low it actually is.

I plan to make this my primary 1/4" ratchet and look forward to future production runs of products from TRO!

I just found the 10mm Blem. Thanks for listing those separately I will be able to justify buying one of your works of art

I've been lurking this thread since deliveries started, hoping to find comments (or criticism). I really appreciate you following this for so long and pulling the trigger on one. Glad it didn't disappoint so far!

Great eye - spoken like a man in engineering/manufacturing...Not many people have mentioned the fitment yet but that's one of the more insane features of the set.

That's high praise brother!

They're not terrible as far as imperfect tools go. To be honest, I've paid full price for far worse off of McMaster of all places...this off-center broached box end wrench was insane.

TRO DESIGN, YOU‘VE DONE IT…. Absolutely stunning finish in the dark AlCrN otherworldly finish. Really happy with these. The cheater/extension fits in the handle with a Vacuum like retention. I don’t know how else to say this without sounding like “too much” or “Mental” but I don’t use my 1/4” SO,K-Zeal, Stahlwille, Hazet, Nepros, Craftsman etc.. It is really difficult for me to justify carrying anything ferrous just due to weight savings alone not to mention how easy these are to use given their weight and amazing design. I CANT WAIT FOR THE 3/8” AND 1/2” RATCHETS. THEY WILL BE EPIC.

Carlos. You legend! What an endorsement from somebody who owns most of the top ratchet brands.

You honestly should start a non-ferrous/non-magnetic tool thread if there isn't one already. You have some crazy stuff and I know I'm interested...

In full disclosure, your extension is a 2/2 Titanium one (I have the other 😆) that is slightly better fitting than the "fluted barrel" Superalloy ones that everyone else got on the pre-order.

I'm excited to see if you flame anodize that one like the other Ti hardware...

Great pics dude, thank you for posting them up!

I have been using my ratchet for a while now and all I can say is wow. The fit and finish is amazing and the back drag is amazing.

I wish I had ordered three rather than just one. If you do another run on these let me know please.

@Ohio Andy thanks a lot for the follow up brother! Glad to know you're putting it thru it's paces and it's not just gathering dust on a shelf somewhere...

I wish I had 3 extra for MYSELF - we always end up with less on-hand than expected. The 1/2" drive might be worth holding out for early next year...

Looks like another pre-order round opened up, now with shot peening and cryo options too.
Okay I just saw this now and whatever I add to the cart it says they're out of stock and they don't have them...

So are they really taking pre-orders? I was trying to order one or two more.

Yes, the preorders are live. They are aware of some checkout issues and are working to resolve them.

@Ohio Andy It should be working now - if it's still giving you an error, please let me know. Apologies for that and thank you for coming back for the 2nd round!

Certain surface treatment options are only available for Charcoal (DLC) and Gold (TiN) coatings, just a heads up.

Oh.... That explains things....

It still said things are out of stock, but, it allowed me to push the order through anyway.

It allowed me to choose the cryogenic (etc) even though I had chosen a coating that would not allow that. But it did not charge me for it.... So that is good.

Regardless, I have two on order. That first one that they sent me is phenomenal.

I just wanted to add that after you add things to the cart and choose to checkout, when it says that they are out of stock, you can still checkout and you can put in an order.

I tried to order the Ratchet and it gave me an error and deleted my cart. Now I don’t see the ratchet only available.
Thanks for your interest in our tools! I sent you a direct message if I can help you out.

You may have trouble checking out if you add "WPC + Cryo" treatment to any coatings besides Charcoal DLC and Gold TiN.

For anyone here that may be interested, the selection is this one shown below. If you add "WPC shot peening + Cryogenic Treatment" to any other coating (besides the recommended DLC & Gold), the price will blank out - it may also prevent you from checking out.

While I'm at it...Here are the options for the latest preorder, with pictures from the last run.

We're now offering a Titanium Ratchet + 4Pc Titanium socket set:

TRO_TITANIUM_RATCHET_SOCKET_SET_DLC.jpg

And a Titanium Ratchet + 4Pc Titanium socket + SUPERALLOY Steel Extension and Bit Holder Socket:

TRO_Superalloy_Titanium_Socket_Set.jpg

There are 5 coatings available, but we recommend Charcoal DLC for all-around functionality and performance.

Is it possible to just order a ratchet? Or is a set the only way to get one?

I like everything about the set, but has anyone ever needed or used a 6mm socket?
Mostly on Japanese bikes. 8 mm definitely gets more work in.

There's a few 6mm hex heads on my CRF250L (brake line clamps if I remember), a few on my XR75, and the FCR carbs on my old monster have main jets with a 6mm hex head. This off the top of my head and could be wrong....

Edit: The Keihin pilot jet is most definitely a 6 mm hex - you got me out in the garage double checking!

I remember there being quite a few 6 mm (across the flats) hex flange screws on KTM's and Honda dirtbikes. Maybe someone will correct me on that.

Can confirm 6mm hex head screws on KTM dirtbikes.

This is how I outfitted my set
1000004891.jpg

Of course everything is standard except the fact that I added some bits. All of these bits are zephyr.

1000004893.jpg

Has room for seven bits. I chose to use ph1, pH2, and pH3 With ACR for both tightening and loosening. That's what I end up using the most.

Next, I have pz1 and pz2, I might swap those out since I don't use those that often. Next I have Robertson size one and two, I use those all the time but the furniture I built.
Finally, I have four slotted bits. Very specifically, 3f-4r, 6f-8r, 8f-10r, and 10f-12R.

That filled the set out nicely, it looks awesome! Love to see those Robertsons in there. We're strengthening the magnet on the bit holder socket this next round, by the way.

Your pictures just reminded me why the finger holes in the foam are where they are:

They're located at the center of mass of the ratchet and extension, so you lift them out right at the balance point. Small detail but explains that design choice.
