I was washing the car in shorts and a hoodie yesterday at 8 am by 1400 when I started mowing temps had dropped 10 degrees and the wind was blowing 25 mph. I had to come in for a second jacket and gloves. I always look forward to snow but I dont ever recall seeing it this early in the season.
I have done the same thing a couple of times. I have never regretted it. It's not something you want to do very often but there are occasions when the customer's demands are beyond reasonable.Wife and I were kid free this morning since we went to a friends wedding last night so I got up early and decided to give the car a good wash. I drug out the pressure washer and my bucket of goodies and got after it.giving thebwheels a good scrub while the car soaked from the foam gun. I really look forward to getting a mounted setup where car washing can be more convenient. After washing and drying the car I finally found what I had forgotten about. While unloading my car Wednesday at the conference, I heard a big thynk noise from a walnut but didnt see where it hit. Well, right in the center of the roof.
I went to church and after I got home decided to tackle the repair with my PDR kit.
I got the car inside and setup
The reflection board really shows well the dent.
I started with this puller which wasnt quite enough to pull it out. I switched to the slide hammer which moved it some after I hit the dent with the heat gun.getting closer
Here you can see the lines are now pushing towards each other. This indicates a high spot. I used a rounded tapping point to knock down the high spots and this was my final. About 95% better than it was. Theres still a tiny low spot , but I didnt have a puller tip that really was getting in there and pulling it up. I spent about an hour on this tiny dent and had to let that be good enough. I will say that it was good practice and I look forward to trying to correct other dents and dings as they happen. I got this kit and a second kit that was loosely thrown in a box for 5 dollars at an Amazon reseller store my dads buddy rums. I also got a lifetime supply of puller glue so I should be good to go for the next dent I find.
I managed to get the yard mowed and most of the leaves roughly mulched and then left for a conversation with a client I was dreading.
A couple of months ago we replaced a rear diff in a toyota for one of my dads friends. This guy is as cheap as they come, and always wants to bring his own parts or find it cheaper online etc. It gets old dealingwith subpar stuff. Anyways, the China diff went bad, I bought it because he didnt wanna pay for a Toyota diff. He got mad when I asked him to cover another diff and I would eat the labor. Warranty this and that blah blah. I was going to fix it for him initially, but then I did something my old boss used to do. I pulled out my wallet and refunded him for the whole job. Apologized to him for the inconvenience, and told him I wasnt going to be able to work it for him anymore. I walked out of there feeling great for firing him and even though it cost me a couple grand it was worth it. Moving forward, I will be focusing on people who value my time and experience, not those looking for a deal.
Lou I think he was slowly realizing it as we talked. He kept asking who could do it, and kept mentioning how expensive it would be. Its funny to me, had he not been rude the other day I was going to eat the labor and do it again for him.I have done the same thing a couple of times. I have never regretted it. It's not something you want to do very often but there are occasions when the customer's demands are beyond reasonable.
Lou

Anytime! Here a few from the neighborhood up the road from me.Snapped these while on a death march with the dog.. This has to be a tough scene to wake up to every morning. Thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery of tenesse!
i love seeing the fog out there.
little family of deer , we kept seeing lots of singles but this was a group of 5 or 6
my son wanted to hang out so I put him to work assembling the trans jack.

its an OEM tools 1 ton dual stage jack. It had a dual pivot head which was one of my requirements, as well as the weight capacity. I also found that a lot of these jacks stopped at 67 inches which didnt seem high enough to me. This one goes up to 76 inches which is plenty of height. I have 4 transmission jobs upcoming so I had to commit and buy a jack. The worst part of having a tool like this is storing it. I will try and clear out some space behind the boat once we get these transmission jobs done.
back inside and covered up for the winter.
I went by my buddies house today to pick up my hard top for my Jeep today. I have been needing to get the Jeep top from his place for awhile and finally made time to grab it today. To fit it in the Acty I had to drop one side of the bed, tir up the tailgate, and unbolt and remove my rear ladder bar in the bed. He has some of the weirdest stuff over there like this Steiner mower with a front mount bucket.
I got the top back home and started cleaning out the Jeep tub. Hoping to get it cleaned out and a few bolts drilled out so I can finish roughing up the tub and getting it ready to spray. Last but not least was I finally got to wash my poor car after busting out a ton of miles this week. At one point I had to drive to Kentucky and actually ran into people I had worked with previously at my old hospital.
Discovered this section of road on this year's trip to the dragon. Just an absolutely incredible section. We managed to get one decent run on it without much interruption on Thursday but the other two times we drove it were a slow parade of leaf watchers. Finally back home after a busy 3 days at my EMS conference. On the way out of Gatlinburg, I opted to sneak over through Wears valley and hit the Foothills parkway back home. This is the new section of the parkway thats been open a few years now. I have only driven it once but today was great. Not a ton of leaf lookers and the views are breathtaking up there.excuse the car being nasty. Its rained for a week plus and I didnt get to wash it.
Colors were amazing, and the road is awesome. Nice sweeping corners, a few tight radius corners, asphalt is in great shape and the stone bridges look amazing. I refrained from doing the other side of the parkway which takes you over to US 129 the dragon. I really like driving that part as its fast and has a good flow to it. By the time I finally got back to the house, I was beat from the week and not sleeping in the hotel. Brought a bunch of swag for the kids which made them happy.
Busy weekend ahead, wedding to attend for some lake friends. We are also suppoosed to have a big drop in temp to the low 30s so I gotta get the boat winterized tomorrow and tucked away.
Its a great run. The other side that crosses over to the Dragon is a lot of fun as well. I have to go back up there in February and will hit it all and possobly head over the mountains and try and slide in a day of skiing too.Discovered this section of road on this year's trip to the dragon. I have been doing that part of the run for I think 3 years now. That path to the dragon is really good. I learned about that road on a trip with the NSX group several years back. I take it from our rental house every year at least once to stop at The Artistic Bean coffee shop. If you really like great coffee, it is almost a must stop in my opinion. They use manual press espresso machines and I have had some of the best espresso ever there. Its a great run. The other side that crosses over to the Dragon is a lot of fun as well. Another new tool showed up yesterday!
Its a replacement for my Stihl blower that was stolen last year. Went big and got a BR 800 backpack blower. Went to town on the yard and leaves, now just need my buddy to come by and **** em all up.
I saw that recall. Need to check out my serial munber and see if its affected.I wish I had sprung for the big 800 when I was blower shopping. Just an FYI the BR800 has a recall you might want to look into.
@Xti04, like your son, I grew up wanting desperately to work on stuff in the garage. My father was a teacher and pushed me to work on books. It's good you documented your son wanting to hang out but be careful the photo doesn't become some Karen's fuel for a 'forced child labor' incident.my son wanted to hang out so I put him to work assembling the trans jack.

Your boat brand name sent me to the Goog to verify why it is familiar to me.back inside and covered up for the winter.

this is a mock up test piece so I can fine tune the fit before I buy some lexan to build the actual piece.
a piece of plywood rests on the tire and under the bed to secure it, and then the heater is screwed to some 2x4 scraps to elevate the exhaust off the wood. I bought a longer exhaust hose to get the warm air into the truck and got it all fired up after dark. It was pretty comfortable temp wise , especially considering it was 29 degrees outside last night.
the cooler makes a perfect step to get in with the tailgate down, the trifold queen mattress worked out great and was comfortable. Kids loved it, only thing missing is the interior lighting needs finished. I had the low power red lighting for nighttime working but the main interior leds are not wired to a plug yet.
Kids were comfortable and enjoyed it. I think with a few more tweaks it will be a great setup and I can test it with the wife to get her seal of approval.
all her ribbons, bows, bags, wrapping paper, tape scissors etc all in one mobile Ikea base. I have to give props for being creative with it, and pretty well executed.

with the trans out we popped the subframe back into the car jacked the engine up and slid a 2x4 under the oil pan to hold it up. Wheels on, and backed it out to be picked up and taken to the scrap yard.I have given some consideration to a RTT, but cost is a huge factor with those. My roof bars have a 150 lb weight limit, and were mostly so I could haul a couple of canoes or kayaks up there, so there would have to some extra work to beef up the whole setup. My cousin has a RTT for his Tundra I really like, I need to get the wife to do some time in the truck and see how she does with these mods I have made so far. If she loves it I could possibly talk her into upgrading my setup some more! Still looking for better seating options for the old truck as the bench is awful.Ahhh, makes sense if you have something else planned for the extra thread. I imagine those interactions though so far have been a bit painful. I taller topper would definitely be nice to give some more headroom. It would be more costly, but what about fabricating an inner frame inside the existing topper to support the weight of a roof top tent? Just use the other space for gear storage then.

Although the wife is a trooper and said she would give it a try if I really wanted to, but again, I shot it down almost as soon as the words came out of my mouth. @zmotorsports I thought about this a good bit last night and this morning, and a RTT could be a two fold purchase. While my truck is a 2wd and certainly not an overlanding vehicle, there are a lot of gravel roads and trails out here that it would be just fine exploring. Kids could have the in bed camper and wife and I sleep up top or vice versa. Some quick sketches mentally had me thinking of a frame like @cccoltsicehockey suggested. My Wrangler project once completed, would be fun to have a RTT on because I cohld tackle some more complex trails and still have a place to sleep. Of course it would make my jeep top heavy and on a short wheelbase vehicle thats always a concern. We will see how spring time camping plans go and work it from there. But yall have me looking for RTTs now instead of planning my CEO meeting in 30 minutes!![]()
We dug into a discovery sport today to drop a transmission. Another Turo car of my buddies. Apparently some rented it and didnt return it for 5 months. Only reason he got it back was because it ran out of oil, jumped time and quit running.
More or less it was stolen. Rented and then never returned. I have a couple of friends who do Turo and its a nighmare. This guy probably spends 3-5k a month with me doing repairs on his fleet. This guy had one of hos Maseratis rented out, the renters boyfriend took it on a high speed police chase across Knoxville. Cops showed up to my buddies house and he used the GPS tracker he put on it to pinpoint the car for them. Its such a hassle, every car is mistreated, beat on, gets keyed and all of the renters smoke weed in these cars. Its disgusting how poorly they are treated and then brought to me to fix.I gotta ask and know you may not have the answer....but did the renter pay that whole time? I've got a neighbor who did Turo for awhile on some 5 year old Jags/BMW/Benz and eventually admitted it wasn't worth the headache as the damage and hassles wasn't worth it.
my miter saw had been setup over here as a work station while I was building the truck boxes. Felt good to clean it up and put it away.
I also moved the planer/ sander flip top cart and welders down there behind the boat. My bench is a wreck again as well as the table saw. Damn flat spot disease. I did get the parts washer cleaned off so its good to go, and I am planning to finallymount the board behind the press for hanging tooling. I will need to grab a sheet of foam board to slide in there first before covering it up.
I also made some panko crusted chicken tenders for the kids
and made some homemade tomato soup for the wife.
She loves tomato soup with a grilled cheese and its an easy way to get her to actually eat a lunch. I have a busy week coming up as we try to get the rover transmission job completed this week, and try to get these benches cleared off and some organization for hand tools created.
withtl the hood popped I attempted to bring the battery back to life. No luck getting it to jump off, so I will bring a battery tomorrow to get it started. I got the tire aired up and ready to go. It was cold and I was being watched by a ton of folks in the gym parking lot where this car has been sitting for the past few months. I will come get it tomorrow and get it torn down so we can get this swap completed and out the door.
Things had gone really well, it went together with minimal fuss. I hopped in an started it up only to find it would not go into gear. Was flashing gearbox fault on the dash. I had left my scanner on so it had a dead battery and it was after 9 pm so we called it a night. Jeff swung by this afternoon and after scanning it decided to swap the tcm which is mounted on the trans with the original. That solved our issues and after 2 test drives it was returned to my buddy.

Bronco Centurion is what it looks like to me.

You can tell the front fender was swapped over from another truck (apparently an F150) by the mismatched paint and lack of stripes or trim.
