"Tried" to get a remote tune on the '40 Chev to deal with the trouble codes. Bought the HP Tuner and needed credits and waited for 9 AM this morning to connect with the tuner. Once we got everything hooked up and ran the car, we learned that the existing computer is "locked". I reached out to the builder to see if they had used HP Tuners to lock in a tune during the build. He told me the engine came with its tune from Street & Performance in Mena, AR, but their owner died several years ago and they are no longer in business, so dead end on that point. We did send the file to HP Tuners hoping for some direction, but crickets so far. We'll convene again next week. . . . .

Successfully reset the new TPMS sensors in my Ford Focus between snowstorms. Initially I had trouble getting the reset tool to communicant with the car but with a quick search online I found that the Chinglish instructions had left out an important step in setting up the car to the relearn mode. Once that was corrected all went well.

Put new LEDs in 3 of the Christmas inflatables. 1 was out and the other two were just too dim compared my replacement LEDs in the others lol.

I also replaced my 10+ year filter/regulator one because the regulator leaked. This new horrible freight version works fine, but it was a pain. Every preinstalled fitting leaked. There was thread sealer on everything, just enough for show I guess. It was fun to take everything apart and re-seal. A lesser issue, I run a whip hose from my compressor feed to this filter. They recessed the input port, which made connecting the whip hose a pain. The old version wasn't like that. Adding an extension and elbow did the trick. Otherwise works as advertised, and confirmed no leaks now.

Last snow, the electric starter on the snowblower wouldn’t engage. It would spin, so the motor is ok, and the blower starts when pull started. Its 5F out, 35F in the garage.

I read somewhere that the mounting bolts can get loose from the vibration, causing the bendix gear to not engage. Description fits the symptoms, so let’s dig in.

Removing the shrouds and gas tank, the starter was “loose”, kinda rattling around. But the four mounting bolts are tight.

Removed the starter, found the wire to the lights is rubbing through. The heatshrink I added a couple winters ago is rubbed through. The factory wrapping is also rubbed through. The wire insulation looks uncompromised though.

IMG_8350.jpeg

Starter has a mounting plate of 1/8” steel spot welded (x4) to the case. Two welds are broken, the other two are breaking, so the starter wiggles on the plate.

IMG_8352.jpeg

The factory shroud has a hole to route the gas line and wires through, but another shroud blocks it, so everything gets pinched against the starter. I trimmed the hole bigger on one shroud, and opened it up on the other.

IMG_8353.jpegIMG_8354.jpeg

Welded the mounting plate to the housing.

IMG_8356.jpeg

Added some more wrapping to the wire to the lights.

IMG_8357.jpeg

Added more protection by using a piece of fuel line.

IMG_8358.jpegIMG_8359.jpeg

Re-installed the starter. Cleaned and lubricated the bendix gear mechanism.

Reassembled everything and tested. Back to service, ready for the next snow storm.

Whew. Started on the job at 9 AM, finished shortly after the sun went behind the mountains at 3:30 PM.

Still need to change the rear tires out for the winters, but I'm kinda' diggin' the seventies stance with the 16s on the back and 15s on the front:

Big question of the day: Why didn't I buy a pressure bleeder and cordless impact wrench YEARS ago?

Tie mounts and extension cables arrived from the jungle this afternoon, so I got busy working on mounting and dressing the wiring and power supply for the LED strip lights on the four post. I might make a few minor revisions at some point, but it's functional and well enough for now.

Soldered a 12V extension and plug to an electric fuel pump, then used it to drain the fuel tank on the boat. Turned out to only have about 5 gallons left, so it went pretty quick. Then wire wheeled, primed and painted my old drill press stand. I still need to add a piece of plate on top to repurpose it for the SWAG portaband. I'll have to finish it next week.

New radiator in the Excursion, No pics. Ended up having to get it from Ford, online order pickup to save a few bucks but still $$$

Almost wrapped up my hammer handle project. Glue drying on the wedges inside vs the frozen shop, then some final cleanup/ metal wedge. Pretty happy with them, first time I've done it. Red one is an old Mac, dark grey one is a Williams and the green one is a USA Craftsman. The Mac was red, kept it red, the Williams was bare, its now dark grey, the Craftsman was a battleship grey color, I made it green.

Handles will get sealed last.

Better cabinet ventilation would help those power supplies last longer.
I replaced a 12v with a 24v. Not because it went out.

There's a 120v AC fan mounted in the door pulling hot air out the top of the case.

But, yes. The new filter in the bottom allows a lot more air flow than the holes I previously had.

I took the flow reducer out of the shower head in the master bath. Oh my gosh. Why did I wait to do that? It just about doubled the water use (it took about 80 seconds to fill a 5 gallon bucket), but it feels so much better. We never even use our minimum billing unit of water, so I doubt this is going to make a difference on the bill.

Spent my Saturday over at moms trying to fix a drainage issue. Ended up calling a sewer guy who came at 10pm. Turns out he’s one of my old boss(who I still friends with)’s nephew. 30 min and 225 weekend rate ended up with….97943468-02A8-4DEC-8A14-DC81368F61FA.jpeg
now both of her toilets are flushing properly and I am running my big Dayton fan over there drying some floors up.

today is a me day, got to hit up the banks and winners for another Christmas present for Chipmunk. I am sure she’s getting me a Milwaukee hackzall and hoping for a m18 pencil grinder……

then I got the one last wire to fix on my truck’s passenger rear brake light. Beer, Amazon and Crutchfield will finish off the afternoon. Leaving the truck inside the shop til Mid week when the temps start to drop again. Next upgrade to the truck will be an Alpine deck, 10” subs under the back seat and new speakers in the doors. Remote start to be thrown in before the holidays.

Although the heater in the garage is superb, one has to walk through the 1 degree outdoors to get there. We’ll try again tomorrow - still recovering from a nice long (for me) vacation.

Ended up trying to get my network streaming device to find the music library on the NAS without much luck. Instead I cleaned, lubed and replaced the belt on my Thorens turntable. It sounds so good and I never have software problems with it…

Listened to records and took a nap while my much better half was cooking up a storm.

Finished what I started yesterday:

54984490773_dd029efe46_o.jpg

New front brakes, winter tires all around. Air pressures all set as per the door tag. Tools cleaned up and put away. Took a short drive to start "bedding" the new brakes. Made several hard stops from 30 mph, followed by a few from 45. Amazingly, didn't get pulled over.

Pedal feels much better after bleeding all four brakes and the clutch--which shares the reservoir with the brakes.

Don’t forget to wear eye pro when you’re drilling. Nice sharp piece of the drill bit sliced my nose.

Thanks for the reminder that I need a good face shield.

Did garage laundry, and cleaned up some stuff. Straightened one of the HF carts that was a bit crooked since I just threw it together because I just needed a place to put 6.0 parts that was mobile. Investigated mounting a vise on one of my Workmates. That ain't gonna work need to come up with another solution.

Inventoried the sockets, and listed the missing ones. There's a few that disappeared, and some I want, cause things will be easier. Considering what's missing, someone did Chrysler brakes and then decided those tools looked better in their box than mine. Checked the spares drawer, just in case. Nope. Dried off and put away tools. Glued up the broken plinth. Started in on a burnt creche. It'll be a while.

I've had bad health for 15 years. Diagnosed with a extremely rare form of Epilepsy, I'm the third case in the USA since 1940, 2 heart attack and last year, 2 strokes. Now that the worst is over, I'm back to giving my Ford 427 Shelby A/C Cobra a rebirth. Before the strokes I just finished building a Ford 460 truck block, stroked it to 527cu. billet aluminum flywheel balanced it with a new twin disk clutch. Bought a new Tremec TKO 5 speed overdrive and a new 18" balanced driveshaft.

The left side of my body is numb, from my scalp, down my forehead, left eye feels like sandpaper, my lips, so kissing is weird, down to my, hum, my manhood (think about that) my leg to my toes. For the first 4 months my left hand felt like hundreds of needles were poking it, I almost told my Doctor to cut the damned thing off, but it got better. Now it feels like if you picked up some wet sand at the beach and squeezed the water out, it feels like wet sandpaper. Anyway, I've worked very hard with my PT, especially with my left leg and foot, as I told everybody, "I will shift the clutch in my Cobra and drive her again,...yes I will" , and I AM !!! I won't be racing her again, but that's ok.

A best friend installed the engine and everything else (Love him like a brother) and I've driven her 4 time before putting her to bed for the winter. On the dyno she put down 714 hp & 724 ft.lb or torque ! I can spin her tires in 4th gear. lol

So, I changed the oil, put on the battery tender and car cover today, that's what I did today. 😁
