Funny, we've been on the soup kick as well lately! I actually made a new roast concoction in the crock pot yesterday, twist on french onion soup and roast, will be curious to see how it comes out, but from the smell of the house yesterday, I think it should be good!

I do something similar, but make a beef 'n noodles or Stroganoff type dish.

Roast, onion soup packet, au jus packet, pepperocinis to taste(plus a little juice), a stick of butter, and beef broth. Cook on low all day, pull the roast, shred it, skim off the grease, then throw in a tub of sour cream and some shredded perpperjack cheese in the juice. Throw the beef back in and ladle out over egg noodles.

Beautiful Marc. We couldn't see them from our home as our neighbors create too much light pollution with their zillion lights along their rooflines, but my son and DIL sent us a couple pictures from their home just a few miles north of us that were quite amazing.

I was amazed at how much we could see without the camera, around 9:15-9:30 they were really changing and vibrant.

Review time kids.

For the last "x" amount of years, I've used Fluid Film and a cheap HF siphon spray gun to undercoat my vehicles before Winter. For those of you in the non-snow/ice areas...salt/mag-chloride/calcium-chloride are the harbinger of rust worms.

Undercoating with a lanolin based product helps keep our vehicles from creating speed holes with rust.

This year, after reading reviews and doing some research, I decided to buy a Woolwax spray gun and shoot Blaster Surface Shield on underneath. Normally I'm just doing touch ups to the high wear areas of road spray with the Fluid Film product.

The Woolwax gun is worth the price of admission. Easier to setup and use. The Blaster Surface shield definitely pours out of the gallon container better, and with the Woolwax gun, coated/sprayed very nicely.

From my reading, the Fluid Film creeps better, but the Surface Shield is better for high wear areas.

The Surface Shield is about $20 more per gallon, but if it wears better, it's worth it.

Depending on how the Surface Shield does this Winter, my recommendation is a good coat of Fluid Film to get you started, and then supplement it every year with a new coat of Surface Shield. I did both Toyotas and the 'Burb with about 3 quarts.

I got a woolwax gun setup also, and the flex tube extensions works great to get inside the frames and doors. Seems folks have been using the surface shield as it was on sale a month or so ago. Trying to remember what the sale price was, but I recall it being popular at the time.
To help the product flow, I like to throw the plastic bottle you screw onto the woolwax gun with a cap on it into a bucket of hot water, or the crook pot I use to heat things up. Makes the fluid film flow a lot better.

Currently I’m using the black fluid film and I got a 5 gallon bucket of it in the cabinet. Not sure if I’ll be spraying my vehicles this year since all of them has less then 5,000 miles on them for the year. Actually the Forester is the only one that broke the 5,000 miles mark, the others are in the 2,000 miles mark or less for the year.

Oh and I use one of those wide mouth funnel that’s for putting anti-freeze in the radiator to put fluid film in the woolwax bottles. I use a measure cup to scoop the fluid film into the funnel and then tap the bottle on the bench to let gravity drop it through. Messy process still. I’ve seen some folks use those transfer pump to pump the fluid film into their bottles.

Cody, I generally heat up the can of Fluid Film in front of a 1500w heater. Same result I'm sure.

Top of a RainX windshield washer bottle fit perfectly in the Woolwax plastic bottles.

What lift do you have?

Advantage Lifts 9000-XLT. Extra long, extra tall. With it all the way up, I can walk under it @ 6'3" without ducking.

Would be nice if there was a cleaner way to transfer the stuff to the bottles. Wonder if it could be gravity fed into bottles somehow with a shutoff valve. Would have to keep the whole bucket warm so it would flow.

Honestly the Surface Shield poured very well. Even after it went back to the 70* ambient air temp.

Been a month, you doing anything down there other than hiding from the weather, and enjoying barley pops and planning truck builds, bud?

Oddly enough, Surface Shield came back around to me recently via another friend. He's got this funny habit of doing anything but what I suggest when he asks me about stuff, so naturally when he bought a cateye 1500 Silverado and asked me about undercoating (like I and another neighbor were doing at the time) and I told him FluidFilm, he messaged me a few days later asking about Surface Shield. I watched a vid, but wasn't familiar with it, and the convo here completely escaped my memory. I told him to get it and we'll compare lol.

Well I guess we could update this thread. Not a whole lot of photo worthy stuff going on. I've been focusing more on the pew hobby than the vehicular one.

Put together a new "race" pistol with a dot and then let my GA (guns anonymous) sponsors talk me into building one of my bucket list guns. A Colt Commando CAR-15 clone. Final parts arrive Monday, it will be entertaining to shoot.

"Built" a new pistol hard case, that will make range days easier.

Will hold 3 sidearms and plenty of mags.

I've also been updating my BOG Deathgrip tripod to an ARCA style mount.

Daughter #2 came over last Saturday to change the oil in her Escape. She is now doing 97% of the job herself, only has me check the oil plug and filter once they are tightened down.

Otherwise it's just been cleaning, organizing, and throwing **** out. The chaos corner of the shop is definitely looking better.

The fella I had the MF 8 sold to, informed me last weekend he had fallen terminally ill(very unfortunate, as he just lost his brother to the same stuff). So at this point I guess I'm going to keep it and just keep repairing. New offshore carb and carb kit ordered to see if I can make the original happy. I've sourced a new 10hp Tecumseh long block if I end up replacing everything. Changed the fluid in the hydro last weekend, just need to do the gear oil in the lower unit of the axle.

That's pretty much it over the last month'ish 😆

Started on the new shooting table today. Had planned to go look at some wheels for an upgrade to the Suburban, but they sold last night, wasn't meant to be I guess.

Had a leftover cutoff of 3/4" plywood from the VTac shooting barrier I made in September. Dimensions worked out well to make a single shooting table. Decided to put a cutout on the long side for a handle. It's currenty in rough unsanded form, I took a 1/4" roundover and did the edges. I've got some adjustable height foldable legs on order...unsure if it will get stained or painted. Guess I'll get the legs mounted up when they arrive and figure out the final look.

Had an enjoyable "range day" with my cousin today. We put some rounds through the Colt Commando clone, it makes all the right noises and dispenses brass at an accelerated rate. Gun is dialed in and will shoot okay groups with the carry handle irons. This gun is more about fun than accuracy.

Cousin had some leftover 20rd & 30rd steel mags that complete the OG look. He also picked up some Chocolate Chip Camo P-Mags for me, understanding my obsession for that camo print.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

They all have their place. All of my AR style rifles get a set of flip up irons in case the equipped optic fails.

I'd like to build an A2 style rifle with a 20" barrel and a fixed stock/carry handle. It's just a nostalgic looking gun, but definitely not the most practical setup with what's available today.

I've actually had that thought too. Not as practical as other options, but there's just something about an A2 in wood furniture with an early short mag that really hits the spot. It's like seeing an older non molested vehicle that's still in great shape.

Got some work done this weekend in the shop. Finished my shooting bench, did some more cleanup and organization, and polished up an old set of park lamps and tail lights off of my Suburban.

The light housings for the Suburban turned out better than expected. I had cleaned them up to sell, but now thinking I should keep them for backups 🤦🏼‍♂️, which defeats the purpose of getting rid of stuff.
