Not drinking a beer, but at work if my boss asked why I was doing nothing, I would reply.
”I’m planning, but if you piss me off it can change to plotting real quick” 😉
I used to tell mine, "I'm trying to decide between a garotte in the stairwell or just a quick hit n run in the parking lot after work."

More fun figuring...
The Tricorder has a small morie. Unlike the communicator prop this didn't spin.
1770096558161.png
I hadn't planned on putting a motor in for this but I wanted to be able to adjust and change the morie. Edmund Scientific used to sell morie patterns which is what they used to create these on the props.

My problem was I hadn't thought of doing this until I was well on my way to completing the Tricorder.
I came up with this. I machined an aluminum bezel. 3D printed a face plate (Yellow) Sandwiched catch ring (Red) in between
the base plate (Black). The base plate is glued to the recess on the Tricorder.
Print the top morie pattern on clear plastic. Which will be pressed into the bezel.
Print the other half of the morie pattern and glue it to the face plate.
Snap the bezel on the stack.

1770097686789.png
1770097753256.png
The bezel ring will turn freely. So the morie can be adjusted.
I used my new smooth build plate.
1770097934116.png
The bottom shows how smooth the surface is. The top is the top surface of the print.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time on things that don't really matter. But hell...I'm retired and having fun.

Got my **** in gear and finished the Tricorder. It was more of a motivation issue than anything else.
Disassembled then painted and polished.

@LeonardY While you're at it, I need a Phazer and a Communicator....:ROFLMAO:
I made a phaser and communicator in 1977 when I was in high school.
1770779720444.png
When I worked at a game company, it sat on my desk.
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were being given a tour. William Shatner came over and said, "Leonard, Look, it's a phaser." Leonard Nimoy replied, "Bill, it's not real."
One of the best days of my life.😂

Wow, so you already had some mad skills in high school?!!
That phaser and communicator look incredibly realistic!

I was a few years behind you in school, but I remember watching Star Trek reruns every afternoon in 1977 on our somewhat-distant UHF station (had to get the antenna aligned just right...)

Your story about meeting Nimoy and Shatner is really cool.

Thanks.
I was lucky to have parents that never discouraged me from anything. As long as I maintained my GPA (I was required to take all AP classes) I could take any other elective classes I wanted. So it was machine shop, electronics, ceramics, woodworking and drafting. I was a bit of an overachiever.

I would watch Star Trek two time a day. I knew it was on another UHF channel but by then my mom was home from work and would tell me three times is too much.

Hahaha...

I always intended to make better ones. I had designed a bluetooth speaker phone to fit inside of the communicator. I was close then the Wand company came out with them. Took the wind out my sails. I have most of the parts so i may just make a prop from them.

Found some parts for an ornament I sculpted. Decided to use up the parts and finish it.
1771047316028.png
The molds are shot so this is the last of them.

Bought an air hose reel back on Black Friday. Got around to installing it. I was going to put a couple of short pieces of unistrut on the beam and then attach the reel to it. But after a lot of talking to myself. I decided to just bolt it directly to the beam.

Tiger Parenting
Before it was a thing
Nothing to do with tigers. It's how every Asian child has always been raised. ;)

I went to regular grammar school. Went to Chinese school two days a week. Had Japanese Saturday school too.
Musical instruments: (That I can't play anymore.) Piano, violin and oboe.

The thing that was unusual. I played sports. Kyūdō (Japanese archery), Basketball, tennis and ran track and field. Played football my freshman year until everyone got bigger than me. My older brother asked me after our parents had passed. How I got mom and dad to agree to that. They wouldn't let him play sports. I said I forged their signatures on all the consent forms and I told them I was in study hall after school.

I often tell my siblings. I am the perfect child. Otherwise mom and dad would had another. :p

It's been cold and wet outside.

Worked on a digital model. Going down a rabbit hole.
The one on the left is the raw scan of the pilot. Which is what I started with. It was missing the arms. I sculpted them based on photos of the model pilot. It was The right is my new/clean version for printing.

Things have been slow going. I wish I could just focus on one project and get it done but I find things around here that need to be fixed to finish a project. Or things that break in the middle of the project. Or I am just disgusted with something. It is of late, mostly the latter.

Here where I am as of this moment in time.
I cut this out of the scan to "clean up"
1772760915308.png
There were some serious warpage. I can't and won't live with it. Once I was sort of happy with it. I decided to complete rebuild.
I have some of the model parts around. Those I don't. I scoured the Internet for.
1772761448388.png
Not done yet. But getting closer.

Another side quest.

My brother needs some storage for my dad's tools. We figured that some drawers under the workbench that I built 30+ years ago would be a good place.

Since my failure on the Animation desk, I have lots of plywood that is sitting. This would be a perfect use for it. I have a box of full extension drawer slides that could also be used. I found I have 22", 24" and for some unknown reason 26" long slides. The 22" will work fine.

I found the plastic bumpers had all deteriorated. Splitting in half when the slides were pushed closed.
1772762069041.png
I did a quick model in FormZ. Got my roll of TPU out and printed new ones.
1772762150751.png
1772762178477.png
While the printer was loaded with TPU, I printed some no mar tips for my nail guns.

The Qidi Q2 has yet to disappoint me.

My Obama plant has been growing well. A little to well.
1772769432199.png
1772769540598.png
Plants yellowed while outside.

Here's the pile of cuttings. It's like another plant.
1772769958529.png
Which I turned into a bunch of cuttings.
1772770009018.png

That's about it. There might be more but I can't remember...

For such a small part, that's obsession. Isn't there supposed to be a half round cutout on the left end? Or do you just cut off the dome and glue it in place?
Nice catch! You're one of the few people that noticed. It is supposed to be cut out. I am going to do it when I place it on the fuselage.
The model I had access to didn't have that cut in it. It was marked for explosives so it may have just slapped together because it was going to be blown up.

In a previous episode. Our intrepid GJer failed at his desk build. With winter fast approaching he retreated to the glow of his computer monitor.

As the time changed, he ventured out on a long path to the plywood farm. Hoping to find some domestic at a good price. He was prepared to have his hard earned coins ripped from his purse.

Arriving at said location. He went in to greet the Lord of this fine grove of plywood. The Lord bestowed upon him some former A1 grade maple plywood at a paltry sum. Our GJer was overjoyed.

The sun seemed brighter and the traffic lighter on his travels back home.

Stay tuned...

I did a couple of small tasks after. It was nice not to have to shove stuff around to clear a space to work. I was searching for a tube of silicone. I figured it was under some pile. Once I had things put away and it didn't magically appear. My brain realized I had put it in a drawer with some other tubes of stuff.
Sealed around the bottom plate edges. 1773463367815.png

Even with glued together liquid was getting between the two pieces and leaking at the edges. It made a mess.
Hopefully this will solve it.
Another fix was to design and print a pouring lip for the Saturn resin vat. When pouring the resin out of the tray, it wraps around the corner and gets on the bottom of the tray. Used the found silicone to fix into place. Hopefully it does the trick.

@LeonardY, two questions about the pegboard above your workbench:
  1. The hooks/tool holders look nicely secured with the screw in the middle. My hooks keep popping off when I remove a tool. Can you recommend what you used?
  2. Do those pegboard panels swing out? Looks like there's enough room behind them for another layer of tools....

Thanks!

This is what I use.
I got mine from Home Depot. I'm sure they have them still.

They work well. They use a peg hole to the right and left of the hanger. I've only had one instant where that was a problem.

Edit. I realized you asked about the plier hangers. They are made by Talon. They aren’t on Amazon anymore. Mcfeely’s apparently carries them.

Yes, they swing out.

A clean garage and shop clears the mind.

My germination rate on some of my seeds is not great. Or it's taking longer than before. Looking at my soil block maker I realized that the planting depth was almost twice the recommended for a lot of seeds I'm working with.
I did a quick model of some new plugs. One was only 1/8" depth the other was 1/4". Which was perfect for most. the whitish one is what came with the soil block mold.

Not to step on @LeonardY but the hooks you’re asking about are Talon Hooks as he said.
I use them extensively on my pegboard with excellent results. I buy them here.
