I'm in need of a set of large combo wrenches from 1.5" - 2.5" for heavy equipment work. My smaller stuff is Craftsman raised panel, so if I could find a set of these, that would be excellent, but I'm not seeing anything on eBay that would work. Same with the local Facebook Marketplace. I guess I could source them one at a time, but that would be expensive.

I would be ok with new stuff, but I'm leery of the Pittsburgh stuff at HF, and really don't want to pay tool truck prices.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

The larger the fastener, the larger the fit tolerance. In these sizes bulk is strength.
Without a big cheater I couldn't imagine breaking them.
I shudder to think what those proud folks in Kenosha ask for theirs.

Yeah, I saw those on HF's website. You make a good point on bulk and breakage; the price is certainly reasonable.

Thanks

Like normal that set is missing sizes, do you need 1 9/16", 1 11/16", 1 13/16" measure some of the larger sizes you have and see if there are any x/16" sizes.
I know I used a 1 13/16" last week on a lift cylinder.

Landmesser Tools Company carries a line of extra-large import raised panel combination wrenches at very competitive prices. They serve industrial markets so I'm sure they're decent quality. The SAE sizes run 1-5/16" through 2-1/2" and metric from 30mm to 65mm.

The shop I worked at had everything. Cheap India imports, Proto, Urrea,
old US brands going back 60 years, slug wrenches up over 3", even shop made wrenches cut from thick plate steel when we needed it NOW that stayed in service two generations now. I made 3 myself my time there.
We weren't too proud to just giterdun and get paid.
I think the biggest was just under 4" used for undoing pistons off hydraulic cylinders.

We used them all equally without checking COO to get jobs done.

FYI
I have a few of these HF wrenches so got curious and measured to see how true to size they are.
1 3/8 (1.3750) measured 1.381
1 1/2 (1.500) 1.515
1 3/4 (1.750) 1.775
1 7/8 (1.875) 1.890
2" measured 2.012

Extra size to deal with rust and dirt and grime on the bolt head? Or more likely just shoddy manufacturing.

Tried to find these, but the website search function isn't working.

Tekton are nice if you want chrome, but they add up really fast.

I've owned both the HF version and Sunex, they worked fine for the price.

someplace on this site i have comparison pics to your standard run of the mill raised panel asian wrench. i have both and these are several notches up in quality even though my raised panels have not failed me either.

Ok, I ordered the Klutch 6 piece set from Amazon, based on your recommendation. $140 including shipping and tax. If they ****, it's your fault! Just kidding...sort of...

Each size is 1/8" larger than the previous one, so I'll have to find singles to fill in the gaps.

Thanks for all the input.

northern does or did have similar finish wrenches in all of the "in between" sizes. my experience with all of the open stock singles vs the set was length. the wrenches in the set were slightly shorter than the singles. as an example the 1 1/2 from the set may have been slightly shorter than the open stock version even if the finish was similar.

Those all meet ASME spec.

Some allowance (for debris or paint) and some tolerance for variation, see above chart.

I looked at Sunex, too. They're about twice as much as HF, but I have some of their wrenches and they've been fine.

Thanks

Haven't looked, this was a few years ago. Lots of Sunex tools have changed and prices have gone way up.

Although that Klutch set looks nice, I would buy the HF on the next sale. They also have an angled open end set (in SAE). You could buy both sets for around $120.

Depending on how much abuse they're going to be subject to, I'd splurge a bit and get Wright.

They're sort of spendy but you'll never break one and they won't round off the corners of bolts and nuts like some of the less expensive ones will.

Another thing to consider is if you do break one of the cheaper models, you very likely don't have a backup so you'll either have to borrow one or wait for a new one to arrive (warranty or not).

If the big HF wrenches were easily available in Mexico they would be a staple of heavy equipment shops.
People here love a lower priced option for less used tools.
The market is quite limited in the big sizes new.

They just don't like spending on tools.

Honestly I never used big wrenches like these but I wonder are you using the open side more or the closed side? Since there so big and expensive for quality ones I wonder if your better off with double open end if your using for hydraulics or double closed end if using for bolts and nuts. But also if your using closed end why aren’t you able to use a 3/4 or 1” drive socket on a impact or breaker bar?

Honestly I’d think double open end plus a 3/4 or 1 drive socket set would do the trick but since I don’t work on big stuff I honestly dont know

I'm sure there is always going to be a use case, but generally an open end is sufficient or there is enough room for a socket.

I only used them on hydraulic fittings and mounting coupler assemblies on the top of various hydraulic attachments.

Only concern would be a possible high torque scenario where the open end can more easily spread or slip. I rarely use the open end of a wrench if I don't have to.

WTF is a shifter? Is that an adjustable wrench?

I have two sets. One metric and one SAE

One is Chinese from HF, and the other India, from the local ma and pa parts store.

I was hesitant on both purchases, but both work fine, and I’m still amazed how inexpensive they were.

I still have a guilt trip every time I use them and see the coo stamp, but other than that, I would buy again.

Wow those look short. I would not have bought short big wrenches. That makes no sense to me. You’re going to end up hitting those with hammers. I would 100% send those back.

The ASME wrench specs are pretty short wrenches. Snap on “standard length” wrenches, just for discussion, are usually closer to the ASME “long pattern”. I have Snap on “long pattern” which are really extra long.

I would have held out for a decent set of protos or some other industrial brand (Williams?) that offers longer wrenches. The Icons generally follow the Snap on patterns, so I’d look at them as well.

350B?? Those things really vibrate with the 3 cylinder engine. Use locktite on everything. Keep the 4big bolts on rear of transmission case tight. Had one break into once because 2 of the 4 bolts fell out and operator didn’t know
