I have a Q,what are the benefits of a sliding top?
If you put something on top and then slide it open ,and now you have to stretch over the the cart itself to pick it up.

A sliding service cart top allows you to use your lid as a work service and access tools in your top storage area, as opposed to the earlier style lid carts where , either using elbow hinges or shocks, leaves the lid open during all cart useage keeping your lid vertical and non useful , and in some cases, keeps the cart drawers locked, which can be a pitfall for efficient cart access.

You know, I've posted my toolbox a couple of times but I don't think I've ever put up pics of the cart I work out of every day.

Matco MSC4 (I think), I can do 90% of my daily work out of this how it's set up, without having to reach for something in my main box. Services, Brakes, Inspections, most electrical, etc.

5510979727_2b8ba05f4a.jpg

Sockets are all metric because most vehicles including class 8 trucks and heavy equipment are metric now. Socket rack holds 1/2" deep, 1/2" shallow wobble, 3/8" deep, 3/8" shallow, 3/8" shallow wobble, and 1/4" deep. Prybars and extensions on the left rack of holes along with wire insertion tools, radiator picks, and a panel clip tool. On the right side rack of holes, I've got a phillips and flat screw driver, nutdrivers in 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" along with the 1/4" drive extension/handle for sockets, a pattery terminal ratchet, bent prybar for brakes (orange handle), belt routing tool (red handle), and prydriver (straight shank prybar with green striking handle). Ratchets in assorted sizes and cordless tools live in the free space in the top along with gloves, welding beanie (to keep hair clean), job orders, and earmuffs with radio for those noisy days.

5510980269_062c6990f3.jpg

Misc service tools. Filter wrenches/sockets, refractometer, hose clamp tool, fuel line disconnects, feeler gauges, brake gauges, door buzzer sanity tool, blowgun, IR thermometer, etc.

5510980847_ba8793f78b.jpg

Snap-On Vantage graphing meter and low amp probe, backprobes to get into connectors, test leads, fuse loop (for use with the low amp probe), small set of long reach sidecutters, flush cut sidecutters, strippers, crimpers, zip ties and zip tie puller, 3M super 88 electrical tape, mini torch, single edge razor blades (for cutting into harnesses).

5510981449_e2356aa0b0.jpg

Wrenches (again metric only), pliers, hose pinch-off tools, paramedic shears that cut almost anything, custom screwdriver (because we do a lot of emergency equipment with odd access points).

5510982271_a41a060e12.jpg

Hammers, serpentine belt tool (useful for more than belts), hex key indexes, handy-cutter, air chucks (regular and large bore), impact tools, air ratchets, funnels, oil/coolant dye (in box).

I've also got a tackle box with common wire connectors (**** connectors, ring terminals, spades, common weatherpack terminals, etc) in the bottom of the cart along with my powerprobe 3, a ratchet strap for suspension components that won't move out of the way when I need them to, a brake caliper compressor, and most of the aerosols and lubes I use daily (battery cleaner, battery sealer, tri-flow, trans-gel, vaseline or Cat O-ring lube, glass cleaner, etc.) And most important of all up here in Alaska, a snow brush for cleaning off vehicles before bringing them in the shop...

I have had a Napa cart for roughly 3 years now and yesterday I noticed that on one of the legs for the caster, there is rust and it is starting to separate. Anybody have a fix for this?

I cant buy anything purple, green or orange here in the roll carts through the SEP program. I asked my Snap-On rep and he has no idea why i cant, but i just cant, thats why i bought the blue one just last week.

Yet another HF cart! LOVE this thing. I didn't really need a cart at home, but what the heck! The deal was too good to pass up!
I mostly will use this for air tools/impacts. My 13-Drawer roller cabinet holds just about all my other tools

What do you end up paying for it Quint?

HF has a coupon for that cart for $169 (cannot use any other coupon with it) or you can get it for $199 at standard store price and use the 20% coupon which ends up to be $161.

Alright I guess I'm the only one that has one here so I'll post my Muscle cart.

313sry8.jpg

Here's the cart opened a little to see. Has two drawers in the inside both roller bearing. The doors open and swing all the way around and magnets hold them to the sides. There are full length pry bar holders on the sides of the inside of the upper lid area. It's nice because the pry bars are completely covered and the actual shanks are not visible from the sides when locked down. The extra doors that swing open hold items for you and you can add drawers if you don't like the space below the doors. The lid has a recess with two super magnets that can hold tools when closed or open. The lid also comes off the struts and can be folded over completely if you need room. Sometimes it's nice when under a lift that you need lower while working on it.

With all the Mac bashing going on lately I was a little hesitant to post pics of my latest CL find. I'm not sure of the COO so the decals may be a little ironic but I like 'em.
It fits my needs perfectly. 75 bucks and it's a damn nice cart.

i dont hesitate to buy used mac tools, as long as they are in good condition, and will meet my needs.
i consider anything i buy that has mac on it as a disposable item
i wont buy ratchets, my experience with mac's service has sucked. i'm still waiting on a return email (3 weeks ) from mac corporate on my complaints about my local dealer.
i'm not holding my breath on hearing anything from mac

...

You got a good deal. I'd have bought it for that. ...and they DO bash MAC pretty good here but not as bad as what they used to bash HF.

All of the tool vendors have their place in the great scheme of things.

Made from a TV cart and a Snap on side box on a wheeled frame.

Vicegrip, is it tippy?

It has not gone over or felt like it was about to yet. :shocking:

I used it without the side box and the original wheels for years. The peg board is offset from the back to better set the weight and provide more hanging surface. I don't take it off any paved surfaces ether. Might not be the best for a gravel or dirt driveway. Having spent most of my life dealing with digging around in tool boxes in the driveway having them right there with a place for each is nice.

Previous version.

I was going to post a question about Roll Cart accessories, and then found this thread and thought I would ask the question here. I have a little Hugger Orange Snap-on Roll Cart, nothing fancy. It has accessory slots/gills around the sides to hang some organizers on. I don't care for what snap-on offers, plus they are high dollar for what you get. Does anybody else make anything that works with these slots?

Check the Sunex website and also the Mac and Matco sites to see if they have any of the older round-leg cart accessories.

I have a quick question re: that wooden handled screwdriver poking out of your top cart storage bin. I;ve got a full set of those in my box that are prolly vintage pre-70's era in flat blade and phillips but I have NO idea who made them . Any idea GJ folks?

Hacky sack is a great tool - when the stress kicks in, I throw it across the garage rather than something that might do more damage.
