When I read another threat I thought it would be interesting to list some tools that are identical but sold under different brandnames. This should be a great way to save some money.

I can imagine that the Festool sander costs much more than the Metabo one.

I wonder who the real manufacturer is?

The OEM actually is Festool. Indeed it´s the most expensive one. The Milwaukee tool retails for 289.- + 19% sales tax the Festool for 367,71 € tax included. The Metabo is discontinued and was replaced by the Techtronics model ("Ridgid"/"AEG")

The original manufacturer of the Festool belt sanders was "Holz-Her" who was bought by Festool. Holz-Her tools are still in the lineup of Festool + Protool (carpenter tools)

That is good information to know. I have a Holz-Her framing nailer that needs a bit of work. Ill have to see if I can get parts through Festool.

The successor of Holz-Her nailers is "Reich" www.kmreich.com
Festool only took over the power tool production in the year 2000.

OK Monte, where do you get all this information? You are a walking tool encyclopedia.

Well, do you know who produces this one? Because I am sure Hazet doesn't.

The reversible snap ring pliers I got from Craftsman for $32 on clearance are made by Strand who also supply all the truck brands. The IDENTICAL set from SnapOn is over $200.

I always thought it was just a rumor, you know about the big tools conspiracy.

For anybody who doesn't remember. During the 90's there were rumors that the chinese government forced the western governments to lean heavily on the domestic toolmakers to buy their products in the future solely by the newly formed mega tool corporation in mainland china. I am still not sure how they achived this or what they offered in return, but I think it really happend.

Look at this. Our toolmakers are just satelite or marketing offices for the mega tool corporation.

The only other explanation that comes to mind is that all the children from the founders married with each other, and they are now all related.

the new belt sanders from Metabo/AEG/Ridgid are from TTI.

There's a recall on Ryobi 1/4-sheet sanders:
http://www.justicenewsflash.com/201...jury-risks-2-people-injured_201105097547.html

The site says that they're made by "One World Technologies", which, if you Google, lands you at the TTI website:
http://www.ttigroupna.com/

No other brands are involved in this particular recall, but I'd be very surprised if Ryobi and the brands Monte mentions wouldn't have products in common....

tools conspiracy ? :D ?

AMAZING! Those grinders look just like one of Milwaukee's $99 models as well but I don't have pics to make comparisons. The big difference though is Milwaukee's patented flip-switch.

I think Bosch angle grinders have many patented safety features that set them apart from other grinder makes, so that is likely a one-of-a-kind grinder.

I had to look at a 3/8" Chinese drill I bought recently at a Dollar General store for $20 to compare it to the ones you posted above, close but not the same.

Monte, is Deutschland good about informing people of the country of origin for tools?

Glad someone started a thread like this. :)

Thanks,
Steve

Hate to break it to you guys, but this is not news. Milwaukee has two distinctive lines of tools. If its got cheap plastic on it (like the tools shown here), its made by someone else. If its still made of pot metal, its the real deal.

So are you saying that you can tell us what all the makes that are made by the different companies?

I seriously doubt it. Sure we all know that companies have been doing this throughout the years. But I still think it is a good idea to post this information for everyone that isn't quite as informed as you.
