OK.....dumb question Im sure. I have got my Desmond Simpicity 500 cleaned, sanded and used a cup brush to get all the paint and rust off of it. I used Rustolum primer and paint in several light coats and it looks great. Except the handle is scratching the paint off everytime I move it. I guess my question is.......should I have painted it, or just had bead blasted and left it alone after that?

The latter is the best option. Polish the handle and paste wax it.

So, I told myself a little while ago that I was going to take a break from vises for a bit...
but I couldn't pass up on this Parker 974 for $20! She's got some surface rust and a few battle wounds but it will clean up real nice...and the swivel wrench is still there! :bounce:
I guess I have a little soft spot for Parkers.

You stole that Parker for $20 and its clean!!

Catalyze Ghostrider - great vise! you may become a Pied Piper of big iron and have a few more follow you home.....watch out.....oh.....You **** too Craig[/QUOTE said:
Well I must have done something right in a former life or something, because lightning has struck twice in the same month. A few weeks ago i got the columbian 206 m2 for free and now God's Wilton has been rescued from the SCRAP pile at work. For the same price as the columbian I am now the proud owner of an 800s FOR FREE. I know I know the pics will be up tomorrow or Monday night but I just couldn't wait to say something.

Just got back from poking around in autopts and rsieracki neighborhood. Trying to see what I could steal from them.....and while they were watching TV....I got a couple.
Meanwhile.... I need to go down and look in Ghostrider's dumpster. It must sit at the end of the vise rainbow.

Here is what happened the company that I work for has just opened a new plant, inside a recently vacated building and the former company left those and a rather nice Bridgeport Mill. So me and one of the other maint. guys decided that if they were to be scrapped we would see if they would allow us to dispose of them. Long story short I get the vises, and a few hand tools. My co-worker gets the Bridgeport. That way everybody is HAPPY. Now all I need is a new bench to put it on and a few people to help me lift it on the bench.

Now I need to decide on what color for the columbian and if I should keep it. The 800 on the other hand will probably be my 21 month old's 35th birthday gift. Any suggestions?

Here's my Columbian 605 in blue ... and rather than wait 35 years ... my birthday is coming up soon! Cheers, Bill

This 206 netted me $375. not painted. I still think your primary vise you use and use heavily should stay just the way it is. Paint chips can look unsightly

3C? What C3? Lets see it!

Whilst you were watching the season finale of Dog the Bounty Hunter, I was over in Glen Ellyn snatching this:

And then I ***** footed up to Bristol and hid this under my coat while quickly driving back down I-355. Here is the duo:

I shall now stay put. The toll roads across Oklahoma about broke me!

The Reed makes the Columbian look like a light duty vise. Judging from the size of the handles the engineers sure had different ideas of their vises capabilities.

Oh, and when you get tired of the Reed send it to me.

Hi guys:

While I didn't read all 115 pages of the thread, I think I'm in the right place. I have just inherited (sort of) a Parker 435. I intend to sell it but its important that we maximize our price without ripping off a buyer since the person receiving the money for the unit is really hurting financially. My intention is to sell it on fleabay or craigs. Someone has already offered $100 but after reading your posts I'm thinking that is WAY under. Can you guys help me with a suggested asking price range - I don't want to be too high but I do have some time to wait for the right buyer. Does it swivel? I'm actually not sure. It does have the original wrench. What do I have? Is it rare? How heavy are these? I'm between Chicago and Detroit in Kalamazoo.

Here are the photos:

Thanks in advance,

Sheila

Nothing special, except the price ~$80 about 10 years ago. I'm quite sure it's made over there, but I like the features.

I have a US of A Wilton on the floor, waiting for a re-paint and new jaws.

Watching Dog? I'am Dog the Bounty Hunter!! I have a warrant to aprehend that C-3!!!! Thats a beauty!! Great comparison between the two. Coumbian makes a great vise and your right, no comparison between the two. This C-3 sold on Ebay by Matchless Antiques last year for $1650. Better not see you in the NW burbs. I'll send my old lady to rough you up!!
