Most you would spend on a pocket knife?

As I was looking over the thread I started asking how much GJers would spend on a flashlight (link), the UPS guy delivered a new pocket knife I had ordered.

So... how much would guys spend on a pocket knife?

I've got a couple of knives that I use regularly, with the price range being from $30-55 or so. But the knives I use most? $8-18 or so.

My beater knives are used most often, but there are a lot of times when I prefer the better steel and more comforable designs of better knives.

Really depends on the knife. I have few spydercos that range from $20 right up to $150. The one I carry with me all the time was right around $50

I'm not really into knife but I have a Leatherman c33l that I got in a package with a Charge AL multitool. I don't use it that much since I carry only the multitool.

I don't see a need right now (for me) to spend more than 30$ for a "knife only".

As far as small pocket knives go, you cant go wrong with a Gerber. Spend $55 once, take care of it and it will last you. I have had one for the last 6 years only sharpened twice. Kershaw is a good brand too. I found a small kershaw in the ocean covered in coral and still cut myself on it after I cleaned it up!

I work on a farm, the pocket knife I carry is a $50 knife, Victorinox One Hand Trekker. The knives are provided to all full time employees at the beginning of the season.

If I were spending my money I'd probably look for something at the same or lower price point.

I carry a Kershaw 1670tblkst USA made, about a ~$60 knife in most stores. I really like it and carry it everywhere. Find myself using it several times a day sometimes and has held an edge very well. Wouldnt be afraid to spend more if I ever needed to replace this knife and I saw that the quality/design was there.

I have some larger pocket knives (filled with features I rarely use).. and they end up being too big to carry around with me during the day. I overspent on them obviously.

I find the ideal price point for me is around 25 bux. These two are my top picks for weight, function, and money.

Since I can remember I have bought kershaw leeks. They are black or silver and come either serrated or nonserrated and are assisted opening. I have always bought a black non serrated. They are around $60 and worth every penny imo. The blades hold an edge for a long time the only time I have to get a new one is when my old one grows legs. If im lucky ill be using that knife till I die.

Depending on the knife, probably around 35$ to 50$. That'll buy a nice Kershaw or Buck at most places. My "beater" knives are utility knives. I dont really have any cheap ones (folding knives that is).

I have a Schrade folder that sits on my desk that I've had for 12 or so years. I bought a Schrade multi-tool in '04 to replace it for daily carry and found it to be more useful overall.

$50 is generally my limit. But the most I ever paid for one was $100 for a used Gerber 06 Auto.

How much to spend is a bit of a trick question as it is so easy to spend a lot on a **** knife, and nearly as easy to get a great knife for a modest sum.

I carried the same SS Kershaw 5300 for nearly 30 years, Except when I lost it, then found it again in my car... Holds an edge well, and takes an edge well. Original cost? probaoly $16-$18? Small knife; 1-1/2" blade, 4-1/8 overall when open. I retired it as I've honed about 1/8" of the blade away, and it's harder to sharpen and keep sharp, and the "New" blade shape doesn't cut/slice as nice as it once did.

I also have had a Gerber belt buckle knife, and wore that for over 20 years; that one got the most abuse. It fell out while doing yard work and went through the shredder. I know because we found the haft eventually using the compost. I don't know what it cost as it was a gift. I'm guessing about $35 originally? I'd replace the blade off of Eprey, except the Kommunist State of Kalifornia has made it a felony concealed weapon to carry as the blade is 1/4" over I think the 2-1/2" limit for such things... If I find another I may regrind it so it is legal...

These days I'm carrying two pocket knives typically. Another Kershaw Rogue 2000, slightly larger than the small 5300, and a 3 blade vintage Old Timer/Schrade 340T.

The Kershaw is used for "clean work" so I don't mind using it for cutting up food, and the Old timer is used for the dirty jobs.

Both came to me at flea markets, for pennies, but can be had on EPrey for under 20.

What maters to me is the steel and how it fits my hand. Gimmicks don't interest me much.

I have found that older Scrade, Kershaw and German blades from Solingen are consistently good blades. Gerber and Buck are OK, but not at the sale quality of steel.

$250. Zero Tolerance 0300. Absolute monster of a knife I carry and use every day, and well worth the price.

Actually, that 0300 cost more than any of my fixed-blade knives. But, I am partial to puukko knives, which typically aren't too expensive.

I carry a SOG Aegis Tanto with me every day, which is about $60. I don't carry it every day, but I also have a SOG PowerAssist which appears to be the same price these days, $60, but was $120 when it first came out.

My wife bought me an Emerson CQC6 for christmas years ago when I showed it to her in a gun mag. I really wanted one after reading Rogue Warrior. Beyond that I have a Paragon auto and a Benchmade Emerson.

I carry a benchmade 710 in d2 steel I believe I spent 130 or 140 on it. It has a 15 deg bevel and is scalpel sharp. I have about 10 hrs of polishing on it. I also carry a original leatherman wave and use it for grunt work.

I carry my Kersaw Blurr most of the time along with my trusty Boy Scout knife. I have a nice collection of Case knives that I like to carry from time to time. Most of my knives are Made In USA with a few Japan made Kersaw's. I have Kersaw, Camillus NewYork US, Buck USA, Gerber USA, Remington USA, Scharde USA, and Bear USA. I also have a few knives in display cases that I will never use. The Kersaw Blurr below I paid $75.00 for. The Boy Scout knife I paid $26.50 for.

The Benchmade/emerson is a desirable knife, the original cqc7 minus the wave feature. That is the knife that started Emerson off on his own career.

I've carried a Camillus trapper for years and love it. Cost @$20 new.

I think the most expensive knife purchase was a Bear mgc Damascus blade trapper @$150 IIRC.

I've always been partial to two bladed knives. one blade for cleaning toenails and cutting tom cats, the other blade for cuttin up lunch!

I have had and carry every day my spyderco native I, its probably like a 50 dollar knife, fits in that small pocket of my jeans on the right side very nicely, use it for everything, very well made good quality knife, I used to be more into collection knives, really like benchmades, kershaw also makes some good knives, gerber has a very wide range of cheap and expensive knives, i used to carry one of those cheap gerber paraframe knives, that thing was pretty nice actually

I have spent more on others but the one I always go back to cost about $35. Its a Swiss army real similar to this one. There isn't a tool on it that I haven't used pretty regularly.

For work I carry one of the Husky folding utility type knives - inexpensive, guaranteed to be sharp, and no issues if I lose it. ($10 at Home Despot)

Outside of work I carry an Old Timer (pre-**** Schrade) that was my great uncle's (priceless to me).

The most expensive one I ever bought is a Uncle Henry (also Schrade - pre-****) Bear Paw that was $75 and change. I only use it for hunting purposes though.

I've bought quite a few knives, but generally try to stick to the sub $50 range. I'll go up to $100 for the right knife, but it's got to have some wow.

I mostly buy Kershaw and Gerber. My favorite so far was a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek that I carried for about a year before I lost it.

Calif is a bit nuts about taking knives and not giving them back, so I would not dare take a good knife out of the house, but have a few like the original Syderco PIG. EDC is a Gerber Shortcut, which I use the scissors on mostly. I have a handful of mini box cutters I paid like a quarter each for that are VERY handy, sharp short blade perfect for opening up boxes etc. All my tool boxes have the cheap HF version of the lockback boxcutter, as well as cheap big lockback conventional knife, and cheap steak knife with a saw edge.

All my "used" knives are way overdue for a session with the crock sticks.
