ferret set from the tool box I bought. It was full of 46, 47 48 date code!!

No matter what euro Ratchet I buy, I always grab the Snappy:thumbup:
I never really had any Snap on before besides a distributor wrench and two ratchets I bought new on the truck. I bought all these in the tool Box pictured from the original owners daughter

Ok, I'm new to this and, on a whim, I bought some old snap on tools that I saw at a garage sale. I have one 3/8" ratchet, about 10 various sockets. but the thing that caught my eye, is a 16 pc snap on socket set. 3/8" inch. all with they exception of one is in the original brown "wax-paper like" wrapping. If I take the time to post pictures could you guys give me some info and maybe an estimated value of them?

The SW sockets and the rat are prob. 40s. The smaller sockets, what model number are they, they look much older, can you get a close up pic of them.
These sockets would have a date code, like a single letter or number. You can look them up on a date code sheet.

Here's mine. The sockets are 1/2" 12 point and date coded from 1950 to 1965 (please excuse the Craftsman ratchet and tool tray, that's what they came in), the extensions are dated from 1957 to 1959 and the 6 point impacts are all from 1950 and the 3/8" drive flex are mid 1950s date coded.

While I'm at it can anyone tell me about the 1/2"F to 3/4"M adapter - it has both a retaining ball AND a retaining pin, is this normal from the 50s?

Jay: the TM sockets would be like 44. Its hard to put a price on the wrapped sockets, you sould list them on ebay, as Snap on WW11 new old stock sockets. There are lots of WW11 collectors who would like to have them, the bad thing is that these are common tools, and they made tons of them during the war, but to find them in the paper is rare.

Don't know if this counts as "vintage" but it's still working and deserves some credit.

This is a great old thread. I can't believe some of the awesome tool collections you all have. I thought I'd ad this 1/2" extension even though there's a bunch on here. It's over 9-1/2" long. More to come when I have time to dig things out.

Does anybody have any info on this piece? I was told it was from around 1940. The part # is either A-100 with a 3 for 1943, or else it is A-1003, though the 3 looks larger than the other numbers.
Also, it is stamped twice. The same markings appear at both ends. I'm still undecided on whether somebody made this from 2 separate tools. It doesn't appear to have been welded together but the bend is questionable in my opinion. I can't find info on the part number. All I really know is it is a 1/2" drive L handle with a lock button and only one end works.
Sorry for the not so great pictures but any help is much appreciated.

EDIT: THIS TOOL WAS POSSIBLY MADE FROM TWO 10" A-1003 MASTER TEE HANDLE SHANKS as found on Collecting Snap-On's website, 1937 Industrial Catalog pg. 21.

A nice set, covers 1920s thru at least the 1940s. On the pic that shows all the tools, what is the tool on the far right?

Thanks Snapmom. That pic got cut off but it's a muffler/tailpipe separator. I believe I also have another I've used that's slightly different shaped without that hammering face on the side.

For anyone curious I wanted to mention the plier with the odd jaws, I believe it was for old chevy drum brake springs. The two tools at the bottom if not recognizable by everybody, are a spark plug gapper and Blue Point piston ring groove cleaner.

Picked up this Midget set from an online auction. All the dates are '47 except for the handle and it's '57. Missing a few sockets, gives me something to look for!

It looks almost brand new! Except for the flex and flat blade, and those are marked non-replaceable.

Great tools guys.

Here's a comparison of the two muffler/tailpipe separators. GA84 & GA84A

The newer round stock GA84A looks like a 1980 date code. A diamond is actually stamped on it on each line.. Looks to have been painted and unfortunately the name was ground off.

I don't see a date on the older one but it has a patent #2860408.

Some ratchets I like.
Front to back..
An MV71. Don't know when it was made just that by the early 70's they had changed the looks of them a bit.
M70N with a 1939 date code.
F71C. The gear in this was toast (3 missing teeth) and I wasn't sure if I could get a new one. A kind board member ( I don't want to mention their name in case they get inundated with parts requests) sent me an original gear and a new spring too. Included a vintage instruction sheet too. Now it's ready for more service . Super duper thanks. :)
