Nice work man. Very nice. I love everything. The bikes, the resto-mod radio, everything. I had a couple of old school Hutch BMX's back in the day. Good times.

The TJ looks sick. I have a set of 3/4 tons to go under my Dodge, but that'll have to wait. Too many irons in the fire if you know what I mean.

At any rate, props on all the good work & keep it up.

Hot wife, cute kid, nice garage. Your are a blessed man

Thanks, man. I joke that the only reason we have cute kids is because of their mom. If they came out looking like me they'd be hideous. :lol_hitti

Thanks. I have too many irons in the fire as well. I currently have four different projects "in progress" and, due to that, they often up in a situation where one of them sits for days/weeks without getting touched.

Thanks, Jeff.

I'm still messing around with it today while the wife is getting work done for her programming class.

I went to Home Depot and picked up three 2" desk grommets. Technically, they're "furniture hole covers", but I'm accustomed to calling anything a cable passes through a grommet.

Anyway, I spaced the three grommets across the back wall. One on center and one on each side. Used Liquid Nails to secure them to the pegboard. This gives me more cable management options than I would have with a single grommet.

Thanks, man.

Wife went to town and came back with a 6-piece Craftsman Pro screwdriver set, two 6-piece sets of Shiner multi-purpose tools, and a 12-piece set of Yeungling universal tools. :bounce:

I'm getting started on some new bits. So far it's been tedious. Can't run the pin nailer and can't clamp the pieces.

The Shiner multipurpose tool is an excellent selection. I first saw this reply on my phone so I could not see the image. It is what I thought it was :D

Went by the stereo shop to get some material to cover the enclosures.

I got material, but also came back with...

Another project will soon be in the works. :shocking:

Two, actually. One for the garage and one that will require some research of Federal regulations. :wtf:

No, this is completely different from the display.

You'd really have to think outside the box to figure this one out. I think I'll post progression pics and see if anyone can guess what it is. Might be fun.

I need to have it done by December 1st, so I'll have to sideline some of the stuff I'm working on to get it done in time.

How is your old time "radio" going?

Red, that radio is upstairs in the dining room where SWMBO wants it.

While I had intended to put a mini-ITX motherboard, power supply, SATA hard drive, and all of the components that you'd need for a computer, she had proposed a different idea...

"You know, for the cost of all that, you could just get a new laptop and use that. The jukebox won't be used that often. When it's not being used you'll have a laptop you can take to the garage, use for college, whatever."

So...yet again...she's right.

I had it sitting in the garage until late last night. She wanted it ready to use for Thanksgiving since we'll have some of her soldiers and their families here. At last count I think we'll have 18 people here. :yikes: If the neighbors come over it'll be 22. :Twitch:

...and I noticed that someone posted, I replied, and then they deleted their post - making it look like I was talking to myself. :lol_hitti

For clarification, my 11:07 post was in reply to someone asking if the new project was to go with the switching display I worked on for the local stereo shop. It's a different project.

Thanks, Marty.

Had a member send me a PM asking about a material list and price for building the hutch.

Here's what I came up with.

(6) 1/8" x 3/4" x 4' (clearance - $2.63 ea) $18 Lowe's
(2) 1/8" x 1" x 6 (about $9 ea) $18 Lowe's
(2) 1/8" x 3/4" x 6 (about $9) $18 Lowe's
(1) 4' x 8' sheet of MDF $25 Home Depot
(1) Set of six Xenon puck lights $37 Lowe's
(1) 4' x 8' sheet of white pegboard $17 Home Depot
(1) 2' x 4' sheet of white pegboard $7 Home Depot
(3) 2" White furniture hole grommets $12 Home Depot
(2) 2' x 3' sheets of 18ga steel $25 at local welding/metal supply shop
(1) 4' x 8' sheet of 1/4" MDF laminated white on both sides $2 (cull lumber) Home Depot

So it adds up to $179.

Small bit of progress this morning. I figured I'd put up pictures before I forget.

Got the first mid enclosure built, covered, and installed/wired the mid.

It's hard to see in the above picture, but here's a shot of the enclosure material.
314349_1644849818403_1751610005_832252_284225425_n.jpg

I forgot to add these earlier, but to get the face of the pegboard flush with the inside edge of the steel corners of the hutch I cut shims from some scrap 1/2" MDF. I just used the 1/2" thickness of the MDF as the width of the shim and ripped the MDF to the correct shim thickness, which was about 3/8".
386140_1638542740730_1751610005_829994_2117948000_n.jpg

And installed.
316671_1644869178887_1751610005_832266_997646247_n.jpg

When I'm ready to permanently mount the side walls I'll use some silicone on the back of the shims. That won't come until I weld the 18ga outer skins in place and prime/paint the frame.

Okay, I'll make a W.A.G. for the mystery project involving those speakers, Federal regulations, and a project deadline of Dec. 1. My guess is you are going to use your electronic wizardry to build a computer controlled exterior lighting display synchronized to Christmas music blasting through homemade weather-proof speaker enclosures. Am I even close?:lol_hitti

Something like this...

Ha-ha. No, nothing like that.

We've wound down today and I'm headed to the garage to make progress on the hutch.

The Jukebox ran solid all day. We put it in a corner of the dining room instead of against the wall. This increased the dB output of the woofers vs. being against the wall. (The light cast on the wall behind the jukebox is due to the laptop screen being open and on. There's no light from the jukebox display that is cast into the jukebox)
319229_1648228902878_1751610005_833557_1197820607_n.jpg

We had several of my wife's soldiers and their families here today and everyone found it easy to use. It bugged me that I haven't made the trim bezel for the display so that's something I'd like to wrap up soon.

I got tons of music from the neighbors - stuff I don't listen to - to put on it so that I had stuff that other people would like.

Neighbor's daughter came over and played "Wobble". The whole house was rockin'. :lol_hitti

Makes me sad that this thing sounds so good and isn't in the garage. :(

Guess I'll just have to build a garage themed system.

Thanks, man.

Getting started on the new project with the speakers. Time is tickin' so I have to get moving.

Got a new tool in the garage today. Sadly, I'm only borrowing it from the stereo shop but after using it, I HAVE to have one.

Forget I put the start of that thing project in here. :(:(

Here's the link to the rest of that build, and here's the finished product. Should get concreted into the ground tomorrow.

When I dropped it off the shop owner gave me one of the old JessEm router table plates. He ordered four of their newer models for the new shop and kept one of the older ones to install on the out-feed of the table saw so they would have it if they should ever need to cut a 8' piece.

So, I came home with a JessEm plate. Cleaned it and test fitted my Craftsman router. It fit! Kind of stoked about that. He was running Porter Cable units and I wasn't sure my Craftsman would fit. It could stand to have the brass thread tension nut replaced (this older model uses thread tension to keep the table adjusted during use) but that's not a big deal.

Anyway, here's the new addition to the garage. :bounce:

That router setup is crazy looking. What kind of table does it mount in?

(By the way, it's 4u2nv from RCC... ventured over here for some ideas and stumbled upon your thread. It looked eerily familiar until I saw the TJ.)

Hey dude! Tons of info over here. Just stay away from the hot deals thread. It'll make your wallet lighter faster than the crawlers.

What kind of table? Umm...:lol_hitti

I just installed in it one of the workbenches. I have three here and then the work surface on the hutch. I went the cheap route, cut/routed a hole in an existing (old) particle board (not even MDF) top.
388356_1674775406524_1751610005_842229_209601589_n.jpg

I'll build a small dust chamber under the worktop and install a port for the Shop-Vac. Already have some 1/2" MDF here so that'll help keep cost down.

Hit a flea market today.

My daughter picked up four pair of Channellocks. When totaled they came to $23. I told her to offer the guy $20. He took it and she left happy.

I picked up this Midwest (with cabinet) for $25 from my local CL. I think mine is actually slightly different, but its' the same cabinet (face of the radio itself might be a little different). The radio was sitting in a house that was going to be demolished the next day.

This has been a very inspiring read. I applaud you on your creativity and mad skills. Keep up the good work of thinking up these projects so the people with less creativity can make cool **** too!!!!! I am now going to make a hutch also. It should keep me out of the wifes hair awhile anyway.

AWESOME!

Superspec, that Silvertone is begging for an iPad on that upper panel. That and AppleTV would fully rock. You could run audio in the console via cable or broadcast it to the nearest television or other display with HDMI input. The '39 Zenith I have here for the garage will keep it's stock appearance but the final plan is to run AppleTV and have a wireless setup for the speakers I plan to install.

Hey 98TJ...I've always wondered what that stretch makes your jeep look like. Got any better pics?

Or a build thread?

This might help.

http://www.itsajeep.org/vBulletin/showthread.php?p=242114&mode=linear#post242114

And for anyone looking for ideas, I'm building another piece from speakers.

Black?

Not keeping the wood finish? :headscrat

I understand the anti-Apple mentality, but there's just SO much stuff that is made for, and can be done with, the Apple stuff. I'm still not willing to purchase an iPad, but I bought an iPod touch ages ago for the wife's F250. The head unit I put in it had an iPod connection so I got one for her.

I also have an older iPod nano in my Jeep. CDs are going the way of the dinosaur and they're just not practical in a dirty, dusty Jeep. Picked up a Fusion marine radio that the iPod fits into - waterproof.

At $99 for AppleTV, and having an iPod I can use with it, I still haven't bought one. Even kept from buying the open item I found at Best Buy for $79. :lol_hitti

Another thing that would help out... Small touchsreen tablets usually don't have much memory. Look into wireless hard drives that will allow you store the media there and stream it to the device.
