About Teng Tools origins , I will have to watch out for that - in UK they don't seem to mark packaging as such.

When the original Britool Tool chests with draws were discontinued , I purchased some Teng cabinets with drawers - obviously not up to Snap-On standards but quite solid at the price (Halfords stopped selling Teng when they introduced their own "Halfords" brand range , that was when I stocked up & with quite a bit of spannery & socketry etc.)
---------
Hammers , I like Scandinavian hand forged axes as well :)

I suspect the Sykes - Pickavant panel beating hammers are made in France alongside Facom. Sykes-Pick. ISTR they were absorbed by Britool , the original stuff was cleared cheap so I stocked up with hammers & a few dollies (probably need the odd hammer & dolly for the full kit) . Did not bother with the shrinking hammers but duplicated on my fav. planishers. Sykes-Pick IIRC are again independant & growing their range. They sold Perfect-Lock (Japanese) socketry that was quite good - doubt if their new range will be near that spec. I think they are reintroducing their range of Panel Beaters tools that they had a good reputation with.

Perhaps you've associated the Teng tools logo with the Japanese supernatural/mythical creature "Tengu"?
I find it odd that they picked that for a company logo.

Anyhow, Britool... There's been some posted in this thread, but I don't think I ever posted mine. I have a few other miscellaneous wrenches and sockets (BSE/whitworth) but I don't have photos of them.

Difficult keeping up with Britool these last few years , your spanners I would say will not be of UK manufacture & discontinued of late for their new range (I have quite a few of these and they are OK) - from the Facom years. I sort of fell out with Britool over 30 years ago , some of the chrome used to peel - then I went to Proto , followed by Snap-On.

Interesting - I have some Britool marked "England" high chrome spanners , now obsoleted, different design to yours and of good quality , I doubt if they are made in England as I am , being discounted but almost all gone .. Will grab a few photographs for you.

Jalfaro,

Regarding the locking pliers difference: The Vice-grips releases by a pinching two levers together. The other types release by simply pulling on a single (release) lever. The later type makes the releasing task easier, faster, and some would say safer as there's no chance of getting your fingers pinched.

Some would argue that the Vice-grip type is much safer from accidental releasing. I guess that makes sense as one has to pinch two levers to release it. On the other hand, the single lever release type only require one lever for release.

Here's a link to some videos illustrating the "European style" locking pliers:

Superautobacs, thank you very much for the clarification . I'm actually watching the videos and I can appreciate the difference

New acquisitions of weekend, needed a "pressure plier", but I bought a few things ... sacrificed a higher quality plier because I do not use very often, but now I'm looking for a new... :)

Jalfaro,

Cool, practical acquisitions there.

Is the Komelon tape measure from South Korea?

Outrigger,

Yeah, the finishing quality of those Britool wrenches reek of made in Taiwan. :D ....not saying that that's a bad thing....although it's unfortunate that it's no longer made in England.

It's been a while since I last browsed through their online catalogue, but it's safe to say that they outsource a good percentage of their hand-tool offerings from China/Taiwan.

Some pictures of stuff I've used recently...

A triple blade scraper from Beta. I'm not quite sure what it's intended purpose is, but I've used it to sculpt or enlargen holes in plastics as well as for deburring tasks (yes, I don't have a proper deburing tool...yet):

The copper pipe is clamped by my trusty Brazilian-made, Schulz vise. The soft face jaws I made using some scrap copper piping:

attachment.php

I used these guys to decapitate some aluminum hand rivets. Definitely faster than drilling rivets out.
PB Swiss bend-handle striking chisel and a MOB joiner's hammer with a 4K handle construction (fiberglass, carbon fibre, polypropylene, and the outer elastomer). Definitely a pattern that's handy to have.
The PB chisel has seen a couple renovation applications. Previously, I accidently struck a hard nail and dinged the edge pretty badly, but I hand-filed it down to an edge and it's back in action:

Some other hammers in use...

PB Swiss deadblows in two sizes with replacement faces for both.
The smaller one is the handiest #3, next to the largest #7. Relative to their sizes, they offer quite the punch. They are way more effective than the common shot-filled hammers. The PB deadblows are all packed with steel washers in a sealed head. One end is flat faced; the other has a bevelled face.

LUX hex wrenches 2-10mm. $5 from Craigslist. I understand this is a house brand for some chain in Europe. A rare find here in the states.

Jalfaro,

Yes, it's quite the 'fancy' hammer.

dkroth,

Cool find indeed, and LUX is indeed like the Lowes/Home Depot of Germany.

MD11,

Seems like you have an affection towards unique/one-of-a-kind hammers. :)

Very much and very nice stuff! Thanks for all the pictures.

New Beta MiniMini

Funny that they have sculpted a handle like a soft handle ratchet on that small thing!

PB Swiss deadblows

Those are nice! So instead of loose pellets, it's washers that can only go back and forth?

I had a mess in my new toolbox, with no order of the sockets. Went to Biltema and got some socket holders. Had to rearrange stuff a bit to get them in there though. Some strange sizes also, like up to 15mm in 1/4" :wtf:
IMG_1273.jpg

IMG_1277.jpg

Aiming to have a complete set of "go to" sockets in the top, and the rest in the drawer. Still some deep sockets to get though.

Some new stuff also. Expanded my hammer collection at Bauhaus.

Small soft face hammer. This was the only one marked Germany, the other ones had polished metal and no markings.
IMG_1278.jpg

IMG_1281.jpg

Rubber mallet. Made in Germany and marked "Fleckfrei". I'm not good at german but I think it means it won't leave marks. Nice to be able to avoid black streaks that can be a problem with regular rubber mallets.
IMG_1282.jpg

IMG_1285.jpg

And my old W.German steel, even though they're not tools. Have shown them previously I know, but haven't bought any more tools to post :D

see superautobacs post :)

So back to hammers :-

Nice tool box (and tools of course)

*********************************************************

I have a brief consultation, I am interested in a pair of pliers, these are not the most expensive or necessarily the best:

Channellock: 526 and 307 (USA)

060251-500x500.jpg 060426-500x500.jpg

Supertool: CPS200H and GWZ250H (JAPAN)

supertoolcps200h.jpg supertoolgwz250h.jpg

:headscrat

Now, as far as I have seen, in terms of features are similar (except for some variations in the measures), but I do not know is if: both in terms of quality "Channellock" and "Supertool" are similar?

This is consultation, if someone could clarify I'd appreciate it, I know that is not the purpose of this thread, but this week I want to buy one of these sets :)

thanks

So Bhae , how do you rate TOPTUL for quality and strength ?

I think I have one of their earliest O/E spanners , a big size , ISTR the chrome started to peel off !

I use other makers for Ribe, Torx , Star etc. but I think the Gedore Allen type hex. are heavy made and strong , certainly not cheap in UK but a lot cheaper than Stahlwille that I always prefer for European socketry.

I don't know , best wait for Monte to tell us all. I have a big 3/4" Britool ratchet & obtained this off eBay about 5 years ago. Don't have a 3/4" dr. T bar or power bar. I normally buy big sockets for such as crankshaft nuts etc. as I need them :)

TENG breaker bar, Britool socket I keep in my pick-up cab for changing wheels, adj. mirrors needed 14 + 15mm - so purchesed a Britool O/E (probably made in Taiwan)

IMG_2206.jpg

IMG_2207.jpg

I quite like TENG , realistic and seem very strong, I have plenty of matt finish sockets that I obtained when Halfords disposed of their stock at about 1/2 normal £, some sockets I have are bright chrome that are not in the catalogue I have, a local stockist said (3 years ago) said he can get them OK.

IMG_2208.jpg

IMG_2210.jpg

IMG_2209.jpg

I like Snap-On industrial blackadised finish , have quite a bit - pointless in boring you, this 1/4" set will be 35 years + old.

IMG_2211.jpg

IMG_2212.jpg

IMG_2213.jpg

IMG_2214.jpg

IMG_2215.jpg

This is Perfect-Lock (Made in Japan) - sold by Sykes-Pickavant until abt. 20/25 years ago when they started selling their own cheaper quality "own brand stuff".
I have found P-L very good , I have quite a bit of socketry in regular use , I use it on rusted dismantling with a breaker bar. Should have purchased more P-L when it was available as it was realistic priced.

IMG_2216.jpg

IMG_2220.jpg

IMG_2221.jpg

IMG_2222.jpg

IMG_2223.jpg

Typical Britool sold in later years - probably Taiwanese ? OK

The plain black handle pre-dates the red-lettered type , probably from time of Facom take-over or final British manufactured.

IMG_2224.jpg

IMG_2225.jpg

Sykes Pick ratchet spark-plug torque wrench (different plastcic cover = different torque pre-set)

Black handle Britool 1/2" "Classic" , the black handle changed after this to a squarish shape , have one somewhere to find. The squarish shape was probably the penultimate British manuf. ratchet by Britool. The round black handle will be about 25 year old, I have blue handled ones that will be abt. 35 year old + the all steel handle 40T prior to that.

IMG_2228.jpg

IMG_2229.jpg

Gedore , the lower two type handles were current - I think until just recently , IIRC the handle is now redesigned again. I have some older Gedore and IIRC the design is just stightly different - little changed in 25
years +

IMG_2226.jpg

Probably my fav. 1/2" ratchet Stahlwille, metal handle is quite heavy for a Stahlwille tool. The newer plastic handles I must admit are good to grip & use but I do like the all metal "Classics".

IMG_2234.jpg

IMG_2235.jpg

Far east imports , I suspect all made in the same factory in Taiwan. I use Franklin ratchets every day I find they are good for the money, the same by Laser are cheaper and material grade / quality probably the same but cheaper. Probably the same with Chapel Tool off eBay - about 1/2 the price of Franklin from local stockist or off eBay.

IMG_2240.jpg

IMG_2239.jpg

Clark - as sold by the Machine Mart high street chain , seen the same quality and price OK

yes, available at www.obi.de "Home Depot" type stores

www.lux-tools.de/

i guess it will be difficult to answer the question, the main difference might be the function of the water pump pliers.

Yes I know, I have several Vogel tools.

ah ok

nice ! Looks good for 42 years

You're right, "Monte". Maybe I will buy "Supertool" option, but takes a week to arrive, as opposed to the set "Channellock" available from a local store.

However, I would have a better opinion as to the quality of Japanese tools, and what better way than using :)

thanks
