I am looking for a good wrench rack for my tool box to keep wrenches in order and easily see if one is missing and also save some room. Looking at something like these unless someone recomends something else, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0060LUM8I/?tag=atomicindus08-20. Sears also has a foam set but I don't think the foam will last. Mainly looking for me standard set that goes up to 1 1/4".

Are the ersnt my best option or is there something better? I looked at the craftsman wrench trays but they only go up to 3/4".

The wrench rack does not take two hands to use , just reach in grab a wrench and keep going .

I use the wrenchracks as well... have no problems getting wrenches out. Sometimes you have to roll up the wrench before you pick up to get it out a bit easier till they get broken in.

How do these things work with drawer liners?

There is double stick tape on the back of the rail. You can peel and stick it directly to the liner/drawer if you want. I don't do that. Instead, I cut the rail so that it fits in the drawer snug. The weight of the wrenches keeps everything in place while still being able to move the rails around later as things change.

On a side note wrench racks were great in their day but, there's a lot of wasted space with them unless you make the effort to by the reverse style to save space. You also can't tailor a rack to different lengths/styles of wrenches. That's why I switched to rails years ago and have never regretted it. My cart has wheels so, I can easily move tools to the work.

I have the Snappy rail the OP linked to and I don't like it a bit.
I now have the "Wrench Rack" and had ordered one from Hansen and also from Ernst that have arrived. I also went to Menards and bought 5 of them Tool Shop metal ones. Maybe I should do little rack/holder pics on here if there is enough need? Let me know guys.

Steven, For 5.00 not bad, but they don't want to give up the wrenchs up. They would better suit a truck box/road box. I will order magnets, either the flexable or rare earth to hold them down. Don't like tape stuck to drawers or liners, even stickers outside of box I don't like, lol.

I'm a big fan of EZ Red magnetic wrench racks. At $25 a pop, they're not cheap, but I'll never use anything else. The magnets are strong and the racks are adjustable.

Here's a picture of the rack holding wrenches in the vertical just so you get an idea of how strong the magnets are.

I use a combination of the long SO rails, "wrench rack" type and some of the cases certain sets came in. I also want the wrenches to slip right out fast / one handed.

I use a combination of the ones the OP posted (Ernst "askew style", acquired from Summit Racing) and the two sizes/flavors of the Snap-on (parallel style) that Fedwrench posted.

The Ernst style are great for an ascending-size set that has a lot of wrenches (more than the 9pc jobs), but doesn't work well for smaller sets or stubbies.

The Snap-on sets work fantastically for that, but, they're longer, so they may need trimmed in some setups - I think they're 22" or 24" long.

Anyone know how tall the Ernst rails are? I'm wandering if they'll work in drawers of the 42" Harbor Freight cabinet; they are 2 1/4" tall.

A picture would be great! I'm going to go to menards tonight and see what they have.

Well the Menards ones won't work for me. I have a set of snap on wrenches that goes up to 1 1/4" so need something that has more slots. Going to get the snap on rails or the ernst, haven't decided yet.

How long are those? I have emailed Ernst a few times with that question and never recieved an answer and it is not listed on their site.

I just got a set today from Summit. They are 15-7/8" x 1-15/16". The material they are made out of is rubbery, so it grips the drawer liner and wrenches well. I really like them. The only downside I see is that the wrenches lay flatter than other designs, so they take up more room. I was able to get 2 sets in a HF 42" cabinet drawer, which are 16" x 22" best I recall. It's tight, but they fit and will work fine for me.

I like the Ernst space-savers, but they aren't very space-saving vertically. With the largest of my wrenches sitting on them, they're too tall for a 2" drawer. Doesn't bother me since I keep 'em in the top till area anyway.

I also like the low profile Ernst rails, but I don't like the fact that they're only 15 wrenches per side.

Yep, I've been doin' that for quite some time now. Some browsers suppress bad image links, so an easy tip-off is that they're copying a previous post in the same thread and reposting it with the images.

Hey op I ordered the ones you posted but didn't end up liking the way they fit my tool box. The wrenches didn't lie flat enough in a shallow drawer (only about 2 inches deep) I ended up going with the kra15a from snap on. If you want the ones you originally posted just pm me and pay shipping and you can have em.

I bought 2standard and 2 reverse wrench racks off the matco truck and put them to use in my road box. They will not hold the wrenches into place riding from job to job. Wouldnt say I wasted my money as I will use them in my shop box or give them to one of my boys. For a road box it's Ernst

Here are my Craftsman pro's sized up to 1 1/2 and 30mm. They are in the Ernst 6014 racks I got from Summit. The SAE wrenches are the SK made ones and the metric are the newer armstrong made ones. Have not finished this drawer yet, need some racks for the Craftsman pro stubbys. Just trying to help anyone out that may wonder how many wrenches may fit into the top drawer of the HF 13 drawer cabinet.

Would the Ernst 6014 racks work in the shallower drawers of the HF 13 drawer cabinet? I was hoping to use the top drawer for my ratchets and sockets. Thanks!

Here are 3 of my new ones.

Wrench Rack...Hansen#5301...Tool Shop

Of these 3 I like the Hansen #5301 best. I will put wrench sets in the Tool Shop holder for yard sale. I hope to try out magnetic wrench holders sometime soon. Being disabled the needs have a twist to them.

WOW... That is EXACTLY how my top drawer is set up for my HF cabinet. Only difference is both SAE and metric sets of mine are the Armstrong versions and only 13 wrenches each. I just ordered the Ernst racks like this last night and will still need the ones for my stubbies.

Thanks

Yeah I dont use them alot. They are in my home garage. Just hobby and repair use. Bought the 13 piece SK made set in 1992. Look forever for the 5 pc. large set. Found them new in the original packaging on ebay for $100. Took me awhile to find the metric stubby's in new condition.

I'm not a professional mechanic. I was for awhile but now do mechanics as part of my job but mostly it is for fun.
My tool box isn't huge or fancy and I've got to get a LOT into a small space. I had purchased some of those wrench organizers shaped like a triangle with tabs to hold the wrenches but they took up 1/3 of the drawer for 8 or 10 wrenches!! I actually just threw the worthless things away this weekend!
DSCN4145.jpg

I was wandering around Sears one night and stumbled across an organizer that they have. It's compact and not only organizes my wrenches by also my Crow's feet as well. I made some labels for each size. I've got two, one for metric, one for inch. I've got two wrenches of each size next to each other, @ a 10mm box open end and a 10mm flex head ratchet box Gear Wrench. This follows all the way to 19mm and then again from 5/16 to 7/8

(it looks messy in the photo but it really is quite organized and easy to find the wrench I want.)

I'm very happy with them and highly suggest it to those with limited space but want organization.
