A while back I thought I was going to paint my car red so I asked what everyone's favorite red was. I've had a change of plan and now I'm going to paint it dark metallic blue so I'm asking the question again - what is your favorite dark blue color (with paint code if possible). I want something that will really "pop" in the sun but not look drab in cloudy weather or purple in artificial light like some blues I have seen. Here are some candidates I have found that I like

Toyota Blue Ribbon Metallic 8T5

2010-11 Ford Kona Blue L6

I agonized over this very same problem last year until I discovered Lexus Ultrasonic Blue. My painter added a bit of metal flake and it looks great! This is a stock picture, I was painting my motorcycle.

This is interesting because today I was at my local autobody paint store looking at similar colors to paint my 69 GTO. I was looking at House of Kolor and they have a gorgeous Cobalt Blue (kandy color) close to the ones you posted. The code is UK05 Cobalt Blue. It's a three stage color.

Do you have the paint code for the color or at least what year and model Lexus it came on?

Check out 1994 Saturn Vue Blue. The color of my Dad's street rod.

I can't find a picture but trust me it really pops.

I'm not a real big fan of blues, but my buddy's wife has a new Honda in Royal Blue Pearl, and it is super sharp. In the sunlight it really pops.

I will be painting my vette dodge viper red, I think their blue is pretty good too. I know the red is obscenely expensive though

Whatever the pigments that make red red, they are really expensive. Blues are like 2/3 the cost of reds.

The Electric Blue Mica 34J is pretty nice.

I like the Kona Blue, though. With some Flat Graphite stripes... :rocker:

GM had a nice blue back around 2001 on one of their SUVs. I was going to paint my '78 Pinto in it, but after seeing the Kona Blue, I cannot remember what the other color was.

I also really like Dodge Intense Blue. I used to have a neon that color.

Although it is a little lighter, I like it.

I rather like this blue. Not sure what the code is, but it is apparently Chevrolet Aqua Blue Metallic ......... a 2009 Chevy Colorado truck colour.

That is a labor of love for sure. So that said you paint it what you like. I have restored a bunch of cars in concours classes. I have sold a bunch as well. I tend to think of what a future buyer would be attracted too. I think that car deserves a period correct color. Personally I would not do a blue. I would do a british racing green. It would look period correct till you lift the hood. I also think the resale value would be better. I would also do a camel or dark tan tone interior ( look at Bmw swatches from 98 for something unique, but classy. Something to be said for a sleeper style resto mod. I tend to flip the cars but have had a couple for 25+ years. So I get building something just for you. I have 67 GT500 that I painted white and blue, I hated lime green, but that move de-values the car by about $30k. Yours is a total street rod, so way different, but still like the retro color + BRG is just plain classy on a car like that.

I too LOVE the color BLUE.

The problem with alot of blue colors is that they change too much depending on the amount of available sunlight.

that Kona Blue is beautiful in bright direct sunlight, but at any other time is WAY too dark for my taste.

That Deep Impact Blue looks awesome, but I'll have to wait until I see one in person to decide as that photo was obviously taken in bright light.

For some reason Ford blues always seem to be too dark or have too much purple in them.

Example Ford Sonic Blue from my old 2003 SVT Lightning:

Simply gorgeous in direct sunlight (and most other times) but at night the truck turned purple like Barney!

I like the Interlagos blue. What colors does it turn in what types of light?

Check out the pictures in this thread - they show the range pretty well. Under a camera flash or direct sun glare, it's a lighter blue (like Monte Carlo), and at off-angles in low light, it gets darker, with a tinge of violet, similar to the door on the second Cobra picture above (that third Cobra is perfect!).

2003 Corvette electron blue .

I second that vote. Probably couldn't bring myself to select a GM factory color, but that blue is nice.

I remember my first dyno day with the sonic blue lightning there was an Electron Blue 2003 Z06 there at the same time. The color was almost perfect from what I recall. Very similar to Sonic Blue but without the purple tone.

not the best shot because it was taken indoors in low light, but:

I was always partial to '69 vette blue.

I had a '65 Beaumont that I painted that colour and always got positive comments.

This is a crappy scan of an old pic but hopefully you get the idea:

The Electric Blue Mica is definitely a blue-blue. But it darkens and lightens with the sunlight.

Mazda's earlier Strato Blue had too much purple tint in it for your requirements.

I was behind a Kona Blue Mustang today. :rocker:

If you were still doing red, I love Mazda's True Red (A4A)

Or with a little candy
House of Color Candy Apple Red

Motivation?

BLUE!

2003 Corvette electron blue. I can't post pics so here is a link to person on camaros.net who used that color.

http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7391&highlight=2003+electron+blue

I was going to go with that color combo on my 69 but decided to use 1997-2000 Corvette Nassu blue because I put the vinyl top back on.

Now we're talking! I like that color and it seems to remain true in different lights. Anyone know the code? Or at least the year(s) it was offered on the Vette?

how about this one?

Is there a car in the picture somewhere? I do like the color, any idea what it is or the code?
