Tripp - The new glass front cabinets look awesome, and the crown trim on top is the perfect touch. The low profile clamp cabinets seem to fit very nicely down there. I would add more - I'm sure you will fill them with something. Building a second and third one should be easy now that you have the method figured out.

Nice job on the wrench racks too! I'm sure you could sell some of those tool racks if you wanted to.

And keep us updated on your impressions of the M/C lift. Most of my bikes have centerstands which suffice for the common jobs, but sooner or later I will need a full lift if for nothing else, just to bring the bike up to a better working height.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice cabinet work, looks like milk paint in the pictures. Regardless of if your wife makes a mess when painting, treasure a lady who will help with the overall project!

Thanks guys

Very impressed. All that in an attached home garage. Gives me inspiration to continue to get mine cleared after moving in.

Thank you, I really like having it attached to the house. Not to far to walk when its snowing and the house helps keep it warm. If you do one thing a day no matter how small sooner or later it gets done. (Its a garage its never done:))

Thanks Shopnut, I'll be sure to let you guys know how the lift works out. Already need to change some stuff. I really needed it to get the bike off the floor. Sportbikes are fun but taking the bodies on and off is a pain. My bike was completely totaled out 3 years ago. Long story short never let anyone ride your bike. Its getting time to do maintenance and maybe upgrade some stuff. The lift is going to help a ton.

Thought I'd post a pic all finished up with wrenches hanging.

Here's the start off some of the changes the front tire stop sucked. Going to make it a little taller and make it look cool. Mocked it up the old way, actually cut it out using cardboard. The clamp handle also needs to be changed I already scraped my knuckle on the bolt under it.

After making the other racks this is the odd man out. The plastic has got to go. I'm thinking some nice aluminium. As always let me know what you guys think.

Which big box store did you find the channel for the clamp cabinets? Looked for some and was never able to find any. Your shop is great, all of the cabinets and storage are good ideas. Now if I could only fabricate like you.

Thank you, the fabrication part takes time and that's the fun part. The channel I have came from Menards. I have also seen it at Lowes. Hope you can find some.

Wow I just stumbled upon this thread and it is awesome. I really enjoy the tool holders that you are designing for the garage. What CAD program are you using? I use AutoCad and you've got me wanting to get creative and make some tool holders for my garage. Keep posting your progress cause you are inspiring.

Thanks. I like designing...stuff. That's the best way to put it. I started out using Autocad, used Solidworks in college, now I'm using Vero Tools Visi. Its what I use at work.

Tripp....how are you lettering these? I thought all you had was a 2 axis mill and not a CNC mill?

Your right, you caught me:bounce: I do only have a 2 axis mill at home and its not even back together yet. I'm just going to say my bosses are really cool.

Started on the lift modifications. The new front stop started as a couple of pieces of card board.

2012-01-23_19-08-07_781.jpg

Applied the cad magic. This is what I came up with.

BIKE-1.jpg

Lay it all out, cut it up, piece it back together like a puzzle. Weld it up.

I think the name is going to stay. Might have to have a Mod change it.

I also started on a drill press vise. I know for a fact its made in the USA.

Little bit of progress going on. My schedule has been a little crazy lately. As always its a ton of hours at work. With 2 trainees I'm just trying to keep things on time. Work also installed 2 new machines that the boss is eager to ramp up. Wife just got a new job and were still trying to sort out the schedule. But back out to the garage. I've been working on the drill press a couple of hours at a time when I've had a chance. All I have left is to get a new belt and rewire the switch. So here are the befores :

Here's the refurb:)

That's all for now. I have a piece of stock ordered for the screw in the vise. I think I can get it cut this coming week. I'll be sure to get some updates done then.

Thanks for stopping buy!

Very nice job on that Delta DP220! As you probably know, that is a very early version (1936-37?) and fairly rare. You have done her proud and she's good for at least a couple of more generations.

Keep up the great work and picture taking. We all love to see the pics!

Noob here. I'm really impressed by what you have done, Tripp. I have a few more garages to look at as there are some substantially skilled people here!

I'm looking for ideas to redo my disaster of a garage space. My wife is not pleased with the state of disorganization so I got the green light to get busy remodelling it!

Thanks for posting everything up. The sliding door cabinet is an idea I'm going to steal.

Thanks for all the comments!

If anyone has any info on the drill press let me know. It's old, cool looking, works great and best of all no plastic. The guy who gave it to me also has the exact same Bridgeport as mine. Only his table has never moved. It was used in a pattern shop. Now it's being used as a router. There's a big piece of steel leaded to the table. The leadscrews are like brand new.

I'm sorry to disappoint but I have not had time to get the little vise done...I'm still trying to work it in.

I did get to rebuild my bench grinder. Couple of new bearings, some paint its good as new. Now if I only knew what it was?:headscrat Its old, (at least 30) it has metric bolts in it. Maybe a Duracraft?

I also dug out my striping box and added some lines to it.

That etching is outstanding. And you can change your title yourself, just delete the "(name pending)" the next time you post.

And that vice is amazing. You could have a whole thread to explain how you got from concept to reality. Your workmanship is outstanding.

Thanks M_P, I have been at it for awhile now. Most of my family thinks I should have went to art school for design. I kind of fell into machining. I think it has all worked out ok. My wife approves she gets furniture and things that are definitely one of a kind.

Re: Tripp's Garage

Sorry guys the vise is still not done. The only thing it needs is the screw. Gonna try again this week. I did do some cleaning up. Added some lights under the bench for the C-Clamp cabinet and the yet to be built cabinet. It was a fun little project.

Here are the pics of the under bench lights:

Started off by finding a track light that was cheaper and had small halogens. Got it home and took it all apart. This is the light:

2012-02-20_18-06-57_272.jpg

Mounted it up. There were 6 lights in the fixture I only used 4 under the bench. The other 2 are going to be used as machine lights.

2012-02-20_18-08-07_640.jpg

Finished install. Can just see the light.

2012-02-20_18-09-40_912.jpg

They do put out a ton of light. This is with all ceiling lights off.

2012-02-20_18-10-58_5.jpg

That all for now stay tuned.

Re: Tripp's Garage

Those lights look great. I hadn't thought of lights under the workbench, but it makes sense since I usually need a flashlight.

Next thing ya know, someone will probably add lights inside cabinets to eliminate flashlights all together.

Thanks, I've been having fun with the lighting in here. The display cabinets really do need some lights. I do have a flashlight on my bench for going up in the attic. Probably put lights up there too.

Tripp,
I am fairly new to this site but I love the way you correct the first design and build the HF tools the way the USA "should of would of" built them. The vise is the same one I made in shop class many many years ago. I also made a small screw jack that I wish I still had. Great work in your garage.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Had some family stuff, and a rental to remodel.

Thought I'd catch everyone up to what has been going on in the Garage. Had some friends over this weekend so its really clean right now.

First I have a part a few of you might like. Thread mill the body and its done:bounce:

Here's the one construction pic I took. The finished pic will be below.

Used a harbor freight dolly to build this wood rack. Now if the stack of wood is in the way I just push it outside.

This is because tool accounts at work are awesome.

Added the metal cabinet on the end. Reworked the crown molding to blend it in. The rug under the bike was a special at the store. It keeps the sticky tires off the white tiles.

Thanks for stopping by

Very impressive! I wish I had half your skills!

If you have a minute, please show some details of your bike clamp on your lift. I have the same lift.

Also, now that you have had them a while, how is your VCT holding up, and what have you done to protect it?

Jim

PS Name change in order. You difinitely have the name right!
