This is labeled a "Step N Check" and putting that together with the lineman's phone I suspect the PO was a telephone repairman at one time and the step is to allow a peak over the gate to check for dogs, or whatever...
I also fold up somewhat as the legs swing in to the middle.
That was it for that stop a lot for just one place!
The next stop was a bit irritating, I had been there earlier, and asked about tools and was told" He's not here yet those go out about 11:00 when the owner is here"
Translation: "He got drunk last night and is too hung over to make it on time" or something to that effect...
In any case, I was able to arrange to swing by after most of the rest of the stops, which is not often the case and I simply blow the stop off completely. In this case it was a good stop, once the owner of the tools showed up...

Complete Thorsen Rat set, and an old Old rat set; there are two male/male extensions under the archaic rat. Not sure of the make on this one, but I suspect an early Duro. I need to visit AA...
Last pics, and last good stop, which was a "target of opportunity" about a mile or so from my house. It was mostly baby clothe and ****, but I spotted one tarp with tools on it. mostly loaded with Import **** when I walked up but it's always a good Idea to look close:
The Xacto box kit was incomplete when I picked it up, I found the red handled part in a canvas bag that had some tool remnants in it. 2 sets of Bondhaus ball hex in SAE and metric, an Armstrong C clamp, a Wiha Knife, and the Snap On 1/4 drive socket set in the red holder, a 4" Crescent, A Thorsen 3/8 ext. and a PowrKraft socket.
I also pickled up another box of Automotive and engineering books at another yard sale. Some of those will go into the garage sale, most into my collection.
