Thanks Jeff, any opinion on if the earpiece speaker from that phone will work inside the lineman's set I got a week or three ago? That thing is hard rubber and I dn't want to open it at the seam and stretch it more than I have to since it is not a clam shell but has to bend open for me to pop out the speaker.

Cecil, that is the second Parker (Different model, but still a swivel jaw) in the last couple of months or so with that U bolt on the jaw. Is there any fracturing on yours requiring it to be there? We asked that on the other but never got a response that I can recall...

Haven't seen any cracks, but I don't have it fully apart yet. I'll be posting my progress in the big vise thread, so keep an eye out there.

Stopped by a garage sale and picked up a few thing. I probably could have gotten a better deal but I was talking with the woman who was having the sale. She was an older lady and very nice so I asked what she wanted and I just said ok. Bottom line I paid $25

you did the right thing, I will negotiate if the price is outrageous or if its a guy selling. Lil ole ladies asking fair prices get what they ask for ;)

Not much for today after hitting a swap meet and a flea market:
0908haul.jpg

Starting with the swap meet finds, at left is an empty "Giller Tool Co." box. The sticker says "Property of U.S. Government" and "Bureau of Excess Property." I grabbed a cheap imported socket set because I saw the Craftsman 3/8" drive RHFT. That set also gave up a Wright extension and two Thorsen USA sockets.
Most of the tools at the flea market were overpriced and/or junk, but I found a few good things. The speeder is a Blackhawk 3/8" drive, the pliers are Utica linesmans, and another cheap imported 1/4" drive socket set held the SK ratchet, a Thorsen extension, a Williams U-Joint, and sockets from SK, Craftsman, and Snap-On.

Hit the flea market today. Some sockets, extensions, and a wrench for $12. Craftsman, thorsen, indestro, SO, and Proto. Got a MAC ID67 impact driver for $5. although when I search the partnumber it comes up as a Matco tool. Matco had it on their websit and MAC did not.

Managed to find one yard sale today with tools, well, some tools. I have to go back next Sat and "maybe" he will put out more from his grandfathers garage (the guy selling was older than me...

Based on what I could see from outside, it could be good. but its a mad mix of older stuff and newer HF class stuff...

Here is what I brought home from the piles outside, and based on what I saw and left, the old man was probably a mechanic at least part of his life.

SS wire brush, 2 switches, Alumaseal, 4 photo trays, Simpson meter book; I have several Simpson 260's this is the first book...
attachment.php

Stabl for gas, NOS Battery Splitter, Sm round Headlight adjuster (Wish this was the 7" large round one, I could actually use that...)
attachment.php

Unusual Pipe Clamp (normally the screw is on the fixed end...), 2 36" bar clamps, 1 Craftsman wood clamp (NOS? Does not look to have ever been used...)

attachment.php

"Army" shovel (Made in Japan, I should have looked closer, but its fine for camping; less lost if someone walks with it as they get left out as latrine shovels... I just made sure the screw collar worked, as I already have 2 I'm trying to free up...),

Thanks. Yep, can't have too many clamps if you build stuff. I now have 19 pipe clamps in 1/2" and 3/4" and 7 bar clamps of different lengths, nearly all are Jorgensen;, and keep buying them whenever they are a good deal. (or any clamp for that matter...) That is my first pipe clamp of that breed however. I'd never seem one of that model that I can recall

What do you consider a good deal on a pipe clamp?

Who knows?
Love my Jorgensen's.

Here's a use I bet ya'll haven't thought of.
If you have one of the longer ones you can use it to double up as a pedal depressor to keep your engine at constant rpm. Beats buying one off the truck if you are just a DIY'er like myself.

I am at about $5 on the pipe clamps and only if they are a good brand with a piece of pipe. Lately I have been seeing them at the flea market for $5 with long pices of pipe.

Hey outlaw, nice clamps!

If you get the collar on the shovels loose, be sure to post how. I have one I can't budge. I broke off one of the aluminum 'grip' lines with a pipe wrench already. Don't want to mess it up.

I had an awesome estate sale day. I'm still going thru the stuff. 2 1/2 hours in the garage yard and shed, and I never made it into the house. Filled my truck with stuff. I'll get the pix up soon.

Well i guess i better hurry up and post the pics of my giant haul so i can piss on Zuk's parade

Not exactly a huge haul, it was the 2nd day of the sale, but i was nice to find at least 1 new piece of Plomb this weekend. I already own a Plomb slotted screwdriver but yesterday i found a Phillips for the first time. Most everything else is Proto. The large Craftsman was actually in the house and looked brand new and i couldn't let that one get away. The wrench is a Blackhawk/Armstrong

The vise was from the sale the tools came from but my girlfriend picked it up for me on the first day. I had to work that day so she got out of bed early and stood in line with a bunch of other stinky tool scroungers to beat them all to this Wilton 645 Mechanics vise. Its not a Baby Bullet or C3 but i guess i owe her dinner for this one.:D

My haul from today. Got the vise for $50 and the rest for under $20. Not too shabby.

BigCaddy, not just another vise, but now you've got your girl buying them for you too! I don't know how you do it

OK, went to my favorite estate seller. They took a whole extra week to get set up for this one, so I was expecting tons of stuff. There were metric sf]t tons! I never even made it into the house.

$100 for everything. I'll mostly list the tools but there was other stuff too.

Oh, and although this was epic for me, I've seen some of you do better, so bear with my excitement!

As I took it off my truck:

Nice miter box and backsaw, very precise, will clean up easily.
Mattox
Craftsman tote, never seen one like it "Carryall" should clean up
empty Klein set, will fill it with a nice set
ceramic tile cutter- not pro level but will work well for me
new push button torch and bottle

Tonight I got through knocking rust off some wrenches I picked up this weekend. Nice haul by themselves. Last item to take a look at was a 1/4 drive SK 40970; found it in beautiful shape externally, but the mechanism would NOT move. Paid a buck. Took it apart, and it's completely full of this baked on crud (cheap grease? really old grease?). Break cleaner, and boom. I've got what is more or less a brand new ratchet. Mechanism is beautiful. Gonna give her a workout tomorrow; but I'll say right off that just messing around with now, it really feels like one of the best 1/4" drive shorter ratchets I've ever had. Score!

Some classic 3m electrical tape, in the packaging, really neat!

some more sockets, cman, indestro and others.
the t bar is SK with a cman -v- deep on it.

So at this point, I decided to take one last look in the shed-

and found this Monkey wards, Powrkraft electric impact in a metal case, with a full set of impact sockets.

One last pass thru the garage netted 2 old heavy framing squares, and the unmarked bar clamp. Also a stack of 3 grits of sand paper, and a china floor jack.

And not tools, but I nabbed a box of plastic toy train tracks and accessories that perfectly match a set from my childhood that my daughter is playing with, and a gallon bag full of classic green army men! I'm stoked about the train tracks.

So that was a pretty good sale for me!

AND... there was a sale 2 blocks away where I got a few things too. Up next!

So at the other sale, they had very little interesting, but for $8 I got:

a big galvanized round tub (to fill with ice and beverages)
a dozen spray paint cans and cleaners,
some light bulbs (incl sodium vapor for my security light)
and this---

It's a metal box for a craftsman drill. No drill included, but I couldn't leave it there. I'll keep the bits, but if anyone has a drill that fits, and you want the box, PM me!

Nothing much today - only saved a few things, but even a day when you save a few things is a good day!

Snagged:

Waldens 1160 1/2" ratchet
Proto flat screwdriver
Stanley/Proto tape measure holder, like new

The ratchet was $5, total for everything was $6.50. Sure beats wasting it on lunch at McD's. :)

It's an old school Craftsman ratchet. Probably just needs to be cleaned up and lubed. Don't trade it in.
