OK I finally got pics shot from yesterdays tool sale if not the Estate sale (4 books on collecting this and a Lufkin 8' tape) $5 - or the 5' pinch bar, or the WWII field phone box and pouch, (but no hand set....) and a "Betty Boop" figurine of her sitting on a large pair of dice. eight bucks for all :willy_nil

I did get pic of the tools for today also (small load)

But here are the tools I got Sat starting with the box. I had to buy the entire box with the tools, but at $10, I was OK with that. The box is missing it's tray, and a latch bail but the latch bail is an easy fix. I think this could clean up semi nice:

The tools are all over the map, nothing close to any sets or even partial sets. With a few exceptions it's onesy twosy of each brand.

Craftsman wrenches about 50-50 SAE and Metric:

attachment.php

4 SK A big Cornwall and a Barcalo

attachment.php

2 Armstrong, adn DBE in Plvmb, Walden (Almost looks like an old Proto Pebble) TruFit, Blackhawk and the bent to hell one is a Powermaster :dunno:

attachment.php

4 Billings, an old Williams, and 3 smaller no name. (I have a bunch of these probably destined to becoming drawer pulls.

attachment.php

A Thorsen (name almost ground off...) Manifold wrench, a small "None better" DBE, and a couple of German import wrenches.

More to come!

Some ratchet wrenches, the top one is a MAC specialty, (Refrigeration? I forget...) a Craftsman and a M/W PoweKraft.

attachment.php

a bunch of Flat stamped wrenches, the only thing interesting is the one for Penn reels, (I have several of the reels, but no wrench...) One Marked Dunlap and the 3 marked "Quality Steel" :spit:

attachment.php

I also fount 16 other import wrenches, some semi decent, and only one was Chicom.

Next up is today's, small ******; a 24 oz. Vaughn BP hammer head, (My second biggest now; only surpassed by the one from BC (Thanks again BC! ), some Wall anchors like Jeff got this weekend, a finger pull, a Craftsman Ignition wrench, and a "Crowfoot Socket" :dunno: Not sure what the heck that one was for...

attachment.php

All was dug out of a box of "junk" and I only found the Hammer head (As big as it is) but using a spade point drill shank to "stir the pot" digging. I was actually looking for more of the finger pulls. Never found any...

Ovalinaz, it's 36 mm, and marked KD No. 2377, USA. So your answer makes sense if a 1/2" drive breaker could be expected to crack one of those loose.

Found a second hand store that had tons of sockets for 25 cents each. I pieced together 2 Blackhawk sets for 4 bucks. These sockets look brand new! I'm going back tomorrow to dig deeper and find the 7mm. I already ordered the 11/32 for $2.75 delivered off of eBay.

just snagged these at a garage sale this past saturday, paid a dollar a piece. craftsman pliers and snap on insulated slotted screwdriver

IMAG0528_zps9cd4e2d2.jpg

thing that really bugs me about garage sales here (and maybe this is everywhere) is that people list there being "TOOLS"....or "TOOL SALE, you dont want to miss this i got tons of tools" man i got there early and was excited cause i had some money left after paying bills.....get there and this guy has a couple mud buckets with some concrete trowels covers in cement....paints rollers, couple sawzalls and a bench grinder, then one fold out table with some china junk all over it and these two beauties.....waste of time almost....i dont get it, realize you have **** and put i have a bunch of **** that i want to be able to sell and retire on, this guy had a worn out dewalt cut off saw and still wanted 125 for it....seriously people are stupid

This came home with me today, I bought it at a pawn shop, $100.00, it's a 9 drawer, 1993 model, with one key. It'll go in the fleet with the rest of my tool boxes. Later on, there's a middle and top chest coming that are full of tools from the same place, once I get my allowance!!

It's a rear axle nut removed for the old volkswagens. The axles and rear drums and all are behind that bolt. To do any rear end work at all.....ie. breaks, bearing...etc. that nut has to come off first. Slide that tool over the nut......breaker bar......6ft cheater.....block the front tires and........start crankin

Before you trash these older wrenches up, please send me a PM. I want to see if there are any in there I can use. thanks,

Mike the ones I plan for drawer pulls have no makers marks, numbers or any ID with the possible exception of sizes (sometimes) and sometimes "Made in USA" and/or "Drop Forged" :dunno:

If you are still interested, I can shoot some pics for you.

In that case, don't worry about it. I was hoping to save some Williams or Fairmount wrenches, but if all you have there in the "drawer pull" pile are unmarked orphans, I don't need those. Thanks for letting me know!

We called it a slug wrench. Put it over the nut, and while one pulls on a breaker bar, the other hammers the hell out of the flat edge with a maul. It's the only way I got the rear axle nut off my Bug.

I scored today. This is just a little bit of it, lots of snap on, vintage craftsman, and proto sockets. Some really cool ratchets.

^ Very nice. Would you mind posting some info on that little Mac tool box/drawer? Dimensions, price? I have seen a few of those floating around, what is the story behind them?

I do not know much about it, but I was easily able to get a key made for it. I have already removed the stickers, and the dimensions are 14"L 14"H and 12"W. I payed 200, for all that is pictured and more.

never thought to have a friend with a sledge give it a good whack, im usually left to myself to do all the maintenance and work on cars, once the tools come out, most of my friends tend to walk away.

The other easier thing to do is to get the breaker on the ground and roll or drive the car to break it loose. :pimpflash

yes, ive done that a few times too, had to use that method to break the yoke nut loose on my 95 cherokee.....it was a space constraint for me to get a breaker in there, on the vw though, i nice large pipe will crack that nut loose in no time.

We used to do that on the army trucks, when we had to remove a stubborn lug nut that some gorilla in the motor pool had put on with a 1" impact and left it torque for about 10 minutes. Put the lug nut wrench on, with a 4-foot cheater bar, and drive forward (or backward). Depends which side of the truck needed to have the lug nut taken off because the left side of the truck had left-hand-thread nuts, and the right side of the truck had right-hand-thread.

Great thread! There's an indoor flea market in my town and the guy has a couple buckets of tools sitting out. I scored some nice files and bits there before and for the price I paid, they were worth it by far. I'll probably stop by tomorrow to see what he's got.

Nothing worth pics. small, rusty Handi Craft carry box with a couple dirty old claw hammers and a pair of Craftsman Vise Grips(reason I bought the box).

Not a tool, but I love stuff like this. I've got to rearrange my plate collection. I just have it sitting, just to show it off. It came in the mail today!

Another day of crappy sales but found something promising around 730am so i was off to sit in traffic for a while. Got there about 5 min prior to start and was the 2nd person in line for the garage.

Not the greatest haul of tools but the Craftsman quick wrenches are hardly used and the ratchets are in decent shape. The vise is marked USA but otherwise a total no name. Not pictured were 5 Peterson vise grips in various sizes. Those were already given to my old man since he needed them.

My pile also included a Holley 600 cfm carb and (2) 5 gallon buckets full of Nibco copper sweat on fittings and brass fittings.

50.00 for the tools seems like a bit much but when you factor in the fittings, i think i did okay for the day.

... the Craftsman quick wrenches are hardly used ....

Probably 'cause they are miserable to use!

Glad I stopped buying them after the first one.

The rest of the stuff is nice :)

I hit 2 estate sales today.

Got a handful of stanley screwdrivers, a couple of SK and craftsman wrenches, and a sharpener. Pics when I get the stuff into the garage.

Also got a pile of USA pyrex cassarole dishes for $2 each, and some other housewares.

The second sale was in a super nice neighborhood, but the house and garage were in poor shape and picked clean. I got a partial "Mr Potatohead" for my daughter (parts just go in the bin with the rest) and a meat thermometer.

So pretty much a wasted few hours for me. Maybe I'll get out of the house tomorrow and get something decent (or maybe I'll be cleaning and sorting and fixing the stuff I already have.....)

Good luck all.

I have a full set of those that were given to me as a Christmas gift about 15 years ago or so. They still look brand new, as I'm not sure I've ever even touched them, other than to put them in my toolbox and when rearranging the toolbox.
