Hey Mark, a set of Rushforth wheels would be really sick on the Chevelle.

Oh ya, you have good taste!! They are beautiful wheels!!

Good Lord! That thing is beautiful! I don't know what it is about bare metal that's so ****, but there it is, damn. That's not a truck bed - it's art! Tell Bob we said great job, and I think you should just clearcoat it! :D

I know isnt it cool. Yes it really is a nice work of art. I saw a c10 years ago they finished in bare metal and clear coated. The trouble is figuring out how we are going to finish it.

Took me a few days to get through this, but this is an amazing garage. It's awesome to see all the cars that you've built, and the builds you take on for customers. Have you sold the Willy's yet?

No not yet. I just listed it for the second time on eBay. I had 24,000 views on it the first time I ran it. I have just listed in on Hot Rod Hotline and I will probably get it out on other internet sites. I just need to get it out there and visible.

Hey Mark, it's AllBlkdOut07 from TMC. :)

Garage and house looking ridiculous as usual. :D

Whats up dog........thank you I appreciate it.

It is a small world when you have similar interests. I have followed your garage for a long time and followed your projects over at 67-72 look what I stumbled on today over there. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=524814 thought you might like to chime in over there.

Oh cool man I never did see this thread. I dont know if I should chime in or not.:headscrat It is funny how people do get pictures and share them other places.

I guess its a good time for an update. We fired the Dart up yesterday for the first time. Wow its sounds great but a brand new carborator was defective. I will shoot some pictures tomorrow of it. We really want to get this car done and out of here! Really itching to get started on the Chevelle as soon as possible but not until the Dart is done.

I have had a new piece in the paint shop:lol: I have a backhoe for my Bobcat and it was looking a little ragged. Unfortunately I have been letting it sit outside because I dont have room in my garage.:( I am really having a 40 x 80 pole barn fantasy. I have really been checking out some of the guys building the big barns and wonder if I should have done that.....too late I guess. I am going to have to thing about building some kind of a roof on the back of my garage for equipment.

A full resto with bucket loads of chrome and a V8 should sort out the Bobcat.

That would be cool but it might get a little scratched up!!

As you might have noticed I am a truck guy. I have always loved big trucks with big wheels. My dually is the first truck I have not run right out to buy new tires and wheels for. These car projects have put a damper in just going out to buy something cool so I have been patiently waiting to get some respectable wear on the stock tires before changing them out. So here is a before picture of my dually with the old tires and wheels on them. The factory hubcaps looked OK but I felt just like one of the other dually's running around.

037F1600-5A76-4911-963B-D9CA27902AA0-4735-000001ED15BEAF3A.jpg

I ordered some Nitto Dura Grappler 285/75-17's to go on the stock wheels. At close to 34 inches tall they look more in perspective on the truck than the original tires. I had been eyeballing some black custom wheels but really didnt see anything that excited me. Yesterday I decided to pull the factory chrome trim rings off and paint the original steel wheels black. I then re-installed the factory chrome caps and I was in love with the new look. My wife looked at it and said "OH, I dont like it.....I just thought you were half done with the project" It feels new to me and I am sticking with it for now. I am thinking of having a vinyl graphics guy do my hood in satin black and from the bottom of the windows up in black as well. I like the vinyl because when you are done with the look you can pull it off and return your vehicle to the stock look. So if there is a good photoshop guy out there let me see what it would look like.:D

I think it looks awesome, Mark! The first pic looks like just another older contractor pulling a construction trailer with ladders hanging off it. The black wheels say "I work on cool sh*t, and I'm on my way to get my next project!" :rocker:

The fact that is was done on the cheap makes it look that much better! :D

Not the best work, but its good enough to get an idea.

Looks too much like the old "waterfall" dodge scheme for my taste :)

that looks pretty good, get some of those blacken tail lights :pimpflash and a few bikini models and we're rockin :rocker:

Oh and remove the 4x4 decal

Ha ha you are funny but I like the way you think;) Yes, I was pretty proud of myself for not going out and blowing money on some new wheels. I cant stop looking at the truck..........I keep backing it in parking spaces so I can stare at it while I walk out of Home Depot:D

Well, it ain't much but its a start.:rocker: Today will mark the first day of progress on the Chevelle. I must give credit where credit is due though. Bob's wife Deanna did all of the work today disassembling the Chevelle.....yes guys this was all woman's work!! Bob is on the last few days of the Dart and trying to get that Mopar out of the garage!!! Until then it looks like Deanna will be in charge of breaking this car down.

Great suggestions, but I'd say:
1. smoke the front and rear lights
2. replace the front/rear bumbers with black powder-coated steel "rampage" style bumpers (of course with huge trailer hitch and winch)
3. shave both rear "4x4" and front door "3500 HD"

(basically limit the chrome since your scheme did that with the wheels...) a.k.a. make it sinister:evil:

As you guys know I bought this car with some of the really hard work done already. Most of the metal on this car has been replaced and as we have started disassembling we are very happy with the quality of the workmanship. Buying a "project car" started by someone else can be a real gamble but it has paid off in this case.

As you can see from the photos there is not much of a car other than the metal. We have a dash center console and some seats but otherwise not much to salvage. From what we learned with the Camaro we replaced the complete interior so we really weren't concerned about the car not having many usable parts. ;) It actually saved us time not having to remove a bunch of used parts.:) This car is going to be new from the ground up.

The motor is a complete unknown as far as running condition. It should be removed this week and we will be sending it out for disassembly, hot tanked. rebuilt, and re-assembled. This motor is only about 350hp but more than enough for a cruiser. No performance upgrades are planned. This motor will most likely be outfitted with factory style valve covers and pulleys to retain a stock look and use factory exhaust manifolds. The only what i would call major change in the engine compartment will be the A/C system. This is yet to be decided but Vintage Air will most likely be providing the A/C for this car.

Bet you were wondering what happened to the Dart.;) It has certainly been a test to get this car rolling but finally today it pulled out of the garage and on the trailer for a trip to the muffler shop. The interior is done and right now it is heading to the paint room for the satin black hood and the rear stripe. I will get some photos of the car and show you guys what we have done. I have not documented this car as much as I would like but I hope you will enjoy the final pictures of the car.

So, what is your opinion about the front tires? I think they are too big in diameter.:dunno: They are 26" tall and I think they should be 23" or 24"

CA33C1FF-FE76-4608-ABE1-179E3194827F-174-0000000511030720.jpg

Today we got the Chevelle body separated from the frame:rocker: The disassembly process is a lot of fun because it goes quick and you get lots of results. The hard part is putting the car back together.

DSC_1313.jpg

We got pretty close to getting the frame stripped. In the next few weeks we will blast this frame and paint it. Right now we are trying to decide whether to sand blast it on site and paint it or take it to the powder coaters and let them handle the whole process.

We have another car coming into the shop over the weekend. Looks like we'll have a 66 Nova on our hands. Lots of stuff going on.......hope we dont have to add a second shift.

I'm still enjoying all the facets of the progress you're posting. Of course by now most of us have realized that this is no longer a garage build thread, but we ain't complaining!

I do agree that the Dart's front tires look a little tall, but I'd go for something only slightly shorter, not the 2-3 inches you mention. If you take that much off, I think the rake will look comical. if you stay in the 1-2 inches shorter range, that would accentuate the existing rake without being overkill. But I'm no expert.

Agree with Phil. They should be small than the back, but not a lot smaller.

I have another set of tires I want to try. The owner of the car likes it so it may be out of my hands.

:D Yes sorry about that. I am trying to get on track to finish the exterior of the "build room" . I am getting tired of looking at the plywood. I am also looking at adding another lift so we'll get some garage stuff back on here.;)

thank you Roy!! I planned on taking some photos today but we had a little ran here in Sarasota so hopefully tomorrow.

We had another car show up on the scene Sunday. I have only spoken to the owner by telephone but the car is a 1966 Nova. I guess it was a pretty quick drag car but he decided he wanted it nicer. It made it to a shop in the area and they have had it for 6 months and only have the car in primer. I guess this can happen when you drop off a project car at a body shop. Right now we are waiting for the owner to fly back into town and see what he wants. The Chevelle is priority one and not sure about getting wrapped up in something else unless we can make it work..............anybody out there looking for some part time work at a garage??????;)

Here is the car.........no interior,no motor

Oh, and by the way I guess I have not introduced "Woody" to you guys. See him sitting on the chair in the background. A buddy of mine went to the Mecum auction and paid something like $500 for this guy and brought him home and gave him to me. He said i needed to start getting some garage memorabilia around so I guess this is my start.

Hi Mark,

Great stuff as usual. Please post up some of the "finished" shots of the Dart, its got to be done by now right? Heheh.

Looking forward to seeing the Chevelle come together. In my younger days I had a '70 SS Nova with a 396/375hp motor. One of only 1,200 made. I bought it in 1981 for $1,100. Ya, of course I sold it about two years later for $3,000. Replaced it with a Vega for better mileage while I went to college. WTF? I could kill myself now. I could see me shipping it across the country to you for the works!

Oh, please fix Woody's feet, that's gotta hurt like hell having them both twisted to the right like that! :eyecrazy:

Mark. . .that Cheby needs 22.5's. . . I'm a little disappointed. 17's? I didn't even know they made truck rims that small. . . :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Something like this: (needs more rubber though)

Your house and garage are amazing!

I have to say though it would bum me to have such close neighbor intrusion. I would rather have land and privacy and a more modest setup myself. That's just me.

Pedro, I would much prefer for you to work illegally!!! Thank you for the offer:thumbup:

Always loved the Nova's and have a bit of a soft spot for them. Can't wait to see how this one turns out! :3gears:

I had a killer 64 pro street nova with a 8-71 blower. My wife hated it but it was a lot of fun. I would really like to have a 70 SS like smsteve posted about earlier.

I know what you mean about wishing I had a car from long ago. If we only knew we could have spent $20,000 on 3 or 4 cars 30 years ago and been multi-millionaires today;)

I completely agree with you because I am a tire and wheel man. I would love to have some 26 inch alcoa wheels on my dually. I have two pretty large trailers and although I dont pull them all the time I had to take them into consideration when I put the 17" tires on the truck. Can I at least get credit for 22's on a 64 malibu:lol:

G-force, Our place in Indiana had a 9 acre front yard, 20 acres of woods behind us, and another 100 acres in farm ground........man I miss the space. We sold it to pay for this place.........What I would do different? Have a bit more property, spend less per square foot on the garage but build the garage twice as big. there is never enough garage space:beer:

Mark its to bad your not closer my #2 son is an excellent body man and I know would get a kick out working on some of your projects.

Don't forget to let me know your coming so you can visit. I havent had any GG visitors to the garage yet. I have been on one other forum when I built my home theater in the house. I had one guy visit my home who was visiting from Sweden who I met on the AVS Forum.

Today I was finally able to snap some pictures of the Dart.:) The flat black paint really makes the car look hot. I included some pictures of the interior which came out pretty nice. The back seat is the original seat and the front seats are out of a monte carlo...:headscrat Yes, we had to throw a little GM in this hot rod. They do fit the car nice. The motor sounds awesome and has more than enough power to give the owner a few nice speeding tickets. It has been a challenging project......just as Chevy's and Ford's have their secrets we have learned quite alot about Mopars. The parts were expensive and sometimes challenging to install. Overall we are very happy and excited to move on to the Chevrolets:thumbup:
