good color to paint the garage

I am painting the garage walls and would like some suggestions.
I have seen the striping done by the garages here but I am looking for something
more for a broader audience instead of a speed shop, so looking for one color like beige or gray something a little less exciting.

I have black and alloy Racedeck tiles and possibly some gladiator garage stuff.
What would be a good color to paint the walls?

Warm grey or beige, that's the color I'm going to paint my garage. It's neutral and will go with everything. Since a garage is usually a colder location of your home I wouldn't go with a cool color like cool grey, or blues..etc.

If you haven't bought your Gladiator storage yet, look into the Everest White line that they just came out with. I bought the 8' work bench since I have a lot of white cabinets, white toolboxes and didn't want the charcoal line that also has stamped steel doors. The Everest White line has smooth, lighter grey doors which would work well with beige.

Is it possible to paint the garage beige without looking like it's yellowed walls? Maybe a darker bolder beige color.

I have beige inside the home and it just look like it is outdated.

I just saw the white line, looking kind of like a medical lab. I already have a small amount of the original line tho.

I'm a big fan of light gray. It's just dark enough to hide some dirt, but light enough to reflect some light so it doesn't feel like a dungeon.

Beige is just do - beige. :yikes:

Light gray? As in a cool gray? So imaginative ha. That's the last color I would use personally.

Depending on the size of your space white or light grey would be my suggestion, especially since you already have a sweet floor by the sounds of it. Post up a pic!

I did white with one "accent wall" which is a very light grey.

I like both, the second one is just a warm grey, which I like a lot.

I just finished mine this week in two shades of gray with a red stripe. If you like either shade of gray I can get you the numbers. Valspar from Lowes. I know floor looks horrible but that is my next project.

How big is your space that you want to paint. If you are talking two car garage 24x24 then keep the color light to give the feeling of space. What ever color you choose make sure it is washable. That way you can wipe it down from time to time. How about a silver metallic to go with the floor.

Here are the Valspar numbers for the paint I used. Top color is Silver Leaf 4006-1A. The lower color is Elephant Gray 4006-2A. The red stripe is Autumn Fire 1007-1A. Thanks to all the guys who gave advice on how to mask and paint stripes. It sure made the job easier.

Add some color into your life and skip the gray or beige's. I painted mine maroon with a galvanized corrugated bottom.

While Kevin's garage does look damn good, the lighter the color the more light it should reflect.

Like a lot of others, I have white upper walls and ceiling and a darker color (gray) for the dirtier area on the lower wall.

But EVERYONE does light gray, it's the expected color for a garage (not sure how it started). Be bold, be different, don't be a sheep. :)

Kevin's does look nice. Why are we looking to reflect light? Is it a dim space? Is there not enough lighting?

I am also looking to paint a lighter brown at bottom, and a white top and white ceiling. Here is a question, how far up the wall should the darker color go?

However high you want, varies by how high your ceiling is and what look you want. I did mine about half way.
To the OP, same for you, pick a color you like. But if you want opinions I vote for hot-pink.

I would go up at least 36"... that should be enough so that most dings and scratches are in the bottom color.

Normally, if it were mine, I'd go up a third. I built my benches at around 42" in my garage, so it's comfortable if one is standing at the bench working. I put my corrugated tin at the same height.

In the house garage, my wife's garage, when we redid it and I put in a bench, the bench in it is also around 42". So when I ran a stripe around the perimeter, I made the stripe the same height to match the top of the bench.

So really, there is no steadfast rule as to any particular height. Buy a roll of painters tape at the dollar store and lay out a couple lines to see which you would prefer before you start laying any paint down.

As with anything in a garage, it boils down to personal preference. Stripes, wainscotting, color.....it's you that is the one that has to live with it and see it on a daily basis. Everything else from the members is what their preference would be. Just remember that with paint, if you don't like it today, you can change it tomorrow

And make sure you post up the pics of the finished work

Here are a few color ideas, and a few of beige which everyone on this site seems to dislike for whatever reasons. Beige really goes well with certain greys.

This bluish, greenish grey is REALLY nice with beige.

If I went cool grey I would go darker and add warmth through a highlight wall, or cabinets in a warm color like beige for contrast.

Check out www.houzz.com and type in "beige wall color" or whatever color and see how many pics pop up. That's where I got the idea for my wall color with the corrugated tin.

Should I paint the ceiling the same color too?
I'm feeling pretty lazy going around the edges

Here is the color sample I'll be getting, not too dark

That would be entirely up to you, but me personally, I wouldn't. I'd either go lighter or darker, but not the same. Cutting in isn't a bad job as long as you have a good brush. I like to paint the ceiling first, then cut the walls in. Get a good 2" Sash brush and you should be able to cut the wall in rather quickly. I can cut in a 24' wall in maybe 15 minutes tops. My problem is the lower portion of the wall. I hate cutting in around the baseboards and usually leave that up to the wife

Not too dark? It's a step darker than white. :lol_hitti

Def paint the ceiling a different color or it will blend in with the walls if you like that look.

I like the thought of red cabinets with light warm grey walls, red on white not so much. Not sure I would mix green and red with white unlike you like Christmas A LOT, or are a ******** Italian.

I did a 2 tone gray also. Sherwin Williams Zircon on top, Gray Shingle on bottom, with white stripe. I positioned the stripe to line up with the light switches.

I like the light gray/ dark gray with red strip. My garage is all flat white with very light tan expy floor to match house color. You cant see my walls so no reason to do it differnt or strip it. Even through cant see walls I have everything I could match so walls and shelfves white, tool boxes, vises cabinets are red with some gray ones. Try to bring colors from room next to garage or since already got stuff then I would match those color so it all fits.
