Here's my first decent find of the season. Went to an estate auction today and the old guy had tons of older USA made Craftsman tools and boxes. They all went for a pretty penny, definitely more than I wanted to spend on some of it. Towards the end of the auction they were just trying to get rid of boxes of stuff. Saw the 4 1/2" bench vise in this one and got the box full for $3. Vise has never been touched and it had various C-man screwdrivers and oil tins, pliers, etc in it.

You ****! :bounce:

That vise is mint and I personally love those old spring bottom and trigger type oil cans.

Outlaw, I think I have some fittings for those gunsmith vises you got. I picked them up at an estate sale. Didn't know what they were, was gonna post them, but haven't had the time.

If they are, and you need them, let me know.

I've always wanted a "you ****"!!!

Yep, vice was in the original unopened box. The spring bottom oil cans are empty, dry, and in great shape. I need to work on the trigger one to get it working properly.

Stormking #1358 . . . that's a cool box. I've never before seen that one. A 1970's Craftsman 9 drawer box is how I got collecting. It was an old guy having a yard sale - he had some neat old stuff, but I initially passed up on the old top box with a $35 price tag. He asked why I didn't want it and I said that I already had a top box and didn't want to spend $35. That's when he said, " but its FULL of tools". I have never parted with $35 so fast . . .

My finds for the weekend. An older medicine cabinet. Should work great for the garage 2 bucks. A bunch of taps 1 dollar. And a vise 10 bucks.

I also got this beauty yesterday off Craigslist. I've never used one before but I'm sure it will make my life easier as I've been using a jig saw and circular saw to do all my cutting. 25 bucks.

Also if any of you guys have this radial arm saw or any made by craftsman you should look up the recall online. When I got home I did some research and found the site. They are sending me a whole new table top, blade guard. Handle and others for free.

Matt - re post 1363
Does the EAGLE spring bottom oil can have embossed (versus raised) lettering, quote marks around EAGLE (like this --- "EAGLE"), measure precisely 4" in diameter at the base, have a 4" spout, and include "MADE IN U.S.A." on the other side?

No rush. Just as an FYI - if it meets those specs, it would be a 1/2-pint capacity can, date to 1942-45, and be applicable to several vehicle toolkits, from 1/4-ton to 2-1/2-ton trucks, with a value of up to ~$30 to WW2 era tools collectors. (The 4" diameter base is critical, as this is the size of the under-the-hood engine compartment bracket.) Eagle is one of three valid suppliers. The other two are Noera and Gem.

Only got out to a couple this past weekend, but did okay at one. Few Proto, Williams and Wright wrenches, 5/8" and up, plus Starrett 3/8" punch and Proto 1-1/16" socket, all for $5.

Yep, that looks like them alright. I have them for both vises, so no need here, but thank you for the offer!

Those are generally called the "Versa-Vise " and a number of companies made or make them, and I think most if not all the newer ones are imported... (Mine are marked "Made in USA...)

You should be able to sell those for a few bucks on Eprey...

2oolHound, that knife is OLD. The Long C Craftsman logo stopped being used in the mid 40's, at least on tools.

Cool, I got it from a retired mechanic who had in his tool box. I think I'll clean it up and bring inside.

I want those 4" mitutoyos! and those german drivers are nice!

That Mac clock is a keeper! Just how big is it?

Stormking, nice box! Does the lid split in the middle? More pics please.

The clock I would say is about 12 inches across and about 5 1/2 inches wide.

BJ42LX- thanks for posting the before and after pics.

I hear about the evaporust, but I usually use vinegar or just a wire wheel. I still have to do a quick wire brush on the vinegar stuff. If the steel is high quality, it comes out nice and smooth. But there are some things I don't like how they come out of the vinegar.

Did you do anything other than wipe and rinse after the evaporust?

For that matter anyone heard of "Nox-Rust" from Daubert Cromwell? A press release for it showed up in one of my industrial supply magazines. Says it's water based, acid free, and non-toxic, heavy gel, and clings to vertical surfaces. Sounds awesome....

Outlaw, thanks for the additional info. Another member has expressed a need, so I'm glad they will go to someone here who needs them. (Hope I can find them in the unsorted pile from the last few weeks of foraging....)

Good hunting!

zuk

Oh yeah, and Stormking? Great looking little box!

Although I am not a personal fan of the gerstners (I don't think I am old enough to legally own one); that is a beautiful box and an amazing deal. What do you plan on keeping in it?
Looks like you have a nicely repainted Southbend 9C in the background?

Soak for about two hours in EOR. Remove and spray with LA's Totally Awesome. Brush with stainless steel or brass brush. Rinse, dry and wipe down with CorrosionX.

EOR usually leaves a black film on good steel. The brushing removes that. If you let the film dry it actually protects the metal.

Whew. It take more effort to describe it than do it.

3 license plates for .10, but they're fairly beat. Thinking good to hang outside or make some yard art with them.
