If any of you guy's are interested in a monster, there's a Reed #208, swivel base, 275lbs on E-bay right now I've got one and they are impressive. A beautiful piece of history and a real work horse. The only difference, mine says Reed 208R. If I could afford it I would snag that one to.

Saw that and it's very tempting. Though to be honest for some reason I like the newer models better with the flat nose, and if I was going to drop that much money on one plus shipping I might as well hold out for the exact one. ;)

Plus, my Reed 4C hasn't come across a job it couldn't handle. :rocker:

I just took a look at the vise you were talking about. Turns out its about 15 miles from my house. I might have to go by and check that thing out sometime. Its quite big and would look nice on my bench.:D

Man, now I know why the wind has been blowing from the east to the west... It's all the suckage you are creating!!!! lol...

Nice find on the Wiltons btw...

Here are a few pictures of my progress of restoring an old Emmert TurtleBack Pattern Makers Vise. The Vise was very nasty as it set in a garage for many years. So I basically wire brushed it, ground it down and dremeled it till I got it clean. I am repalacing all the old original square hardware with new SS Steel hardware. Kind of a restomod,..as it were.

I still have to make some or find some new dogs for the front jaw. But I am making progress.

Just got a Parker 974-1/2 today... Under the thick *** layer of red paint & primer under that it's actually in miraculous shape... Just a few light dings in the dynamic jaw... The jaws looks lightly used... Only negative thing is it's missing the lock-down bolt, and obviously no little tool...

Does anyone have some dimensions for the lock-down bolt? I was going to fab one up and go buy / modify a cheap box-end wrench from the pawn shop until I can get a proper parker wrench.

Will probably work on cleaning the rest of it this weekend...

These pictures probably won't come out right but I'm a work in process. Never posted anything before, didn't know how, still don't. But here's a few of my vises I have collected. I love the old York's and their offspring. The big Wilton is an 800S, should have turned it around so you could see the 800. It weighs 219.9lbs, not 238lbs as the current ones on the market now do, that do not have the recessed jaw bolt holes and stand a couple inches higher. I just couldn't see paying $1900.00 more for 18lbs of beef.

Hello Fellow Vise Enthusiasts!
I just picked up a Wilton C1, but it's miss a couple of parts...
It's missing one pipe Jaw, it's the style with the steel bracket on the back, oh yeah... I need the bracket too.
Its also missing one of the swivel lock down handles...
I am willing to buy individuals or pairs.
PM me if you have some of these you can part with...
Happy Hunting!!!

Love the 800S and also the swivel-jaw Wiltons... Also jealous of all your York's...

In your opinion, how does a york measure up to a Wilton? Similarities? Differences?

Hey Larry!
Thanks for giving us a glimpse with these photos. Guys, Larry is a long time collector and he didn't even scratch the surface of his stock with these photos. Larry will be a major contributor to this thread showing us peeks at what he gathered over the years from time to time, I'm sure.

HI EOC_Jason I'm probably not a good one to analyze the difference between the two because in all honesty I have never tested either for dependability or durability or made a comparison on their engineering. Fact is for 30 years I used a 90lbs 6inch stationary Columbian till I wore the left side of the jaws till there was a 1/16 inch gap in the jaws. Finally retired it and bought me a Columbian 608 out of Seattle Wa.. First time I swiveled that thing, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Love that Craigslist. So you see I've never really had an opportunity to use either. If I had to give an opinion, I'd say that Wilton was the better vise because your always making improvements and innovations. But my love for the York stems from the history. If it hadn't been for the war creating the need and the York fresh on Mr. Vogls' mind, there probably wouldn't be a Wilton vise. But all vises are beautiful to me. Their the hub of any shop. If you don't have a good vise, you don't have a shop you have a shed.

This is my first post, although I’ve been viewing for quite a while. In fact, that is what has led to me looking for an old vise to restore. I picked this up at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX. It was a little rough but looks pretty good now. Its a Parker No. 94

That Parker came out real nice Fat Boy. First I've seen of that design. Looks like a boat, very cool. And welcome to the forum.

va.grouseman, keep em coming. Drool worthy stuff for sure. And that ACME vise made me think of Wile E. Coyote with his head in a jam.:D

Here is todays find and got a lead on some other killer vises if everything works out

BigCaddy when are you going to open your museum? I will be first in line. I have been really watching auctions and CL here in Colorado since we last wrote and only found two vises worth buying. Patience patience right... I did buy a Reed 204 1/2 that has solid jaws that I plan on fitting one of my new fabricated jaws. When I catch up I will post the after pictures.

When is the vise palace going to open? The date is too be determined:evil: I like the old style Reed you picked up.

I'm actually going to go visit mine pretty soon when i'm on vacation. The girlfriends family have a vacation house in MA and there is one of those old style Reeds on the workbench. I would take it home but it might cause a family feud so i've got to wait everybody out.:D
