If any of you guy's are interested in a monster, there's a Reed #208, swivel base, 275lbs on E-bay right now I've got one and they are impressive. A beautiful piece of history and a real work horse. The only difference, mine says Reed 208R. If I could afford it I would snag that one to.

I just took a look at the vise you were talking about. Turns out its about 15 miles from my house. I might have to go by and check that thing out sometime. Its quite big and would look nice on my bench.![]()
Not mine, don't know who's it is. Many interesting features here.

Want to say thanks to Autopts for the fine 326 Starrett he sent me. It's a beauty, and the fellow that machined the jaws for it is an artist. Thanks to both.

Just got a Parker 974-1/2 today... Under the thick *** layer of red paint & primer under that it's actually in miraculous shape... Just a few light dings in the dynamic jaw... The jaws looks lightly used... Only negative thing is it's missing the lock-down bolt, and obviously no little tool...
Does anyone have some dimensions for the lock-down bolt? I was going to fab one up and go buy / modify a cheap box-end wrench from the pawn shop until I can get a proper parker wrench.
Will probably work on cleaning the rest of it this weekend...

Interesting find. Tell us about it.
These pictures probably won't come out right but I'm a work in process. Never posted anything before, didn't know how, still don't. But here's a few of my vises I have collected. I love the old York's and their offspring. The big Wilton is an 800S, should have turned it around so you could see the 800. It weighs 219.9lbs, not 238lbs as the current ones on the market now do, that do not have the recessed jaw bolt holes and stand a couple inches higher. I just couldn't see paying $1900.00 more for 18lbs of beef.

Love the 800S and also the swivel-jaw Wiltons... Also jealous of all your York's...
In your opinion, how does a york measure up to a Wilton? Similarities? Differences?
..... It was a little rough but looks pretty good now. Its a Parker No. 94

Here is todays find and got a lead on some other killer vises if everything works out
BigCaddy when are you going to open your museum? I will be first in line. I have been really watching auctions and CL here in Colorado since we last wrote and only found two vises worth buying. Patience patience right... I did buy a Reed 204 1/2 that has solid jaws that I plan on fitting one of my new fabricated jaws. When I catch up I will post the after pictures.

I like the old style Reed you picked up.Here is todays find and got a lead on some other killer vises if everything works out
This is my first post, although I’ve been viewing for quite a while. In fact, that is what has led to me looking for an old vise to restore. I picked this up at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX. It was a little rough but looks pretty good now. Its a Parker No. 94
