Who makes the shortest?

I have a IR cordless impact with a 1/4" quick change hex, and I'd like to keep it as short as possible for tight access.

Shortest I've found so far are the Milwaukee Shockwave ones that they claim are a proprietary alloy/heat treat.

The DeWalt one looks longer:

The Harbor Freight ones look long too:

Any other choices?

What size drive is that? Looks 1/4", which I'll probably blow up pretty quick (gun is rated at 180 ft-lb max).

Most my impact stuff is 1/2" drive (actually I need to replace some of it, so maybe now's the time to expand the collection).

The shortest I found is the Craftsman at Sears ..

Hmm, these seem just as long as the DeWalts/HFs. Did they offer some other one that's not on the website?

I have one just like Chad has and it's 1/4 drive male. They are pretty tough as well I've tried breaking mine and can't :).
Oh and it came with a ryobi kit I bought a couple years ago.

Sent From Snap On Head Quarters deep in China.

Dont get the makita swivel one.. It seems to be made from some glass like material.. I have shattered 2 of them. I thought the first was a fluke because I was really beating on a nut with it. Second one did the same thing.

I have been using the 1/4 adapter in my M18 fuel since I got it. The 3/8 adapter has the same 1/4 hex shank so they both share the same weak spot. The short 1/4 adapter that chad showed isn't for an impact as it doesn't have detent in it. I would not buy the craftsman set.I broke 2 of then years ago with my less powerful 18v dewalt.

Help me understand what the "tight access" issue is in your photo. :headscrat

The second photo is irrelevant, that's just showing the Milwaukee adapter once a socket is mounted on it. This would be for in-engine bay disassembly, hence the desire to keep the body as short as possible.

CWP1616L, most my impact stuff is 1/2" drive unfortunately, and it looks like the 1/2" drive adapter is longer. Maybe I'll pickup a Sunex 3/8" drive impact set as well though.

They have one in 1/2'' drive that's 2'' long. APEX EX-500-B-2

Apex Bits makes some short ones in the US, I think both their 1/4" square and 3/8" square came in sizes shorter than 2" - maybe 1 3/8."

Only downside with Apex is that apparently they take a while to ship. I ordered from them on the 26th of July and they say the will ship my order by August 16th (they don't bill you til your order ships, though).

Black & Decker (Taiwan) bits are the shortest for the price (about $5 at Walmart or Amazon), and hold up well. They go straight from the hex to the head, without that extra 'step' that makes all the others so long. I've used the 3/8 daily, with no issues to speak of. The 1/4 is the same length as the 1/2 & 3/8, so it's pretty long. I just cut it down and dremeled a new indent into it to make it lock in. It's been holding up great in the shop.

I bought the Apex bits in 1/4 & 3/8. They are extremely good quality, and as short as you can get with a detent. But as stated above, they take a while to ship. They also use a locking pin instead of a ball detent, so quick changing sockets is a bit of a pain. For that reason I've only used my 1/4 once, and still haven't used the 3/8. They measure up about 1/4" shorter than the B&Ds.
