Bought a set of Teng locking pliers 26 years ago, still going strong after all those years of (ab)use in the motor trade. Got a set of combination spanners for my home tool kit, easily as good as my 26 years old Facom combo spanners.

Anyone else noticed that if he paints something its always satin black?

as for teng tools, they're a average make. slightly over priced for what they are in my view but theyre a good brand for frequent home mechanics.

also my view of the show is that paul ed's assistant does the work and ed claims the fame. I also know for a fact that the range rover they did a dodgy air suspension pump on was not done by ed but a local independent garage near to me. ed just removed and refitted a already working unit..

I really like the show. The profits they make vs the cost of the labour is often laughable, but I love how it inspires me to get into the garage. I'm a fan of Teng, I have the metric combination spanner set and the impact screwdriver. I have properly abused both and they come back for more.

Re the satin finish, I quite like it as I don't have to polish them clean!!

The show is basically about flipping cars, or buying a car that needs a little TLC, fixing it up, and then selling it for a profit. You don't add in the labor costs in a transaction like that.

I know, but they never ever talk about the time. Even if you are just doing it on the side, you'd have to factor it in. Imagine doing some of the stuff without the lift and space. He is a pro, and would need money.

There was a shop that sold Teng tools near me a few years back. A great place where you can find a lot's of tools brands like Metabo, Dewalt, Teng tools, Wiha etc. Most of my tools come from there. The owner sold the shop to a big box DIY store and all we got now are crappy Powerplus, Varo etc tools brands.

Here we go for my Teng tools collection. Sorry, they are all a bit beaten, greasy and dirty :dunno:
(My father gave me a strange look when he saw me taken pics tools :lol_hitti )

American Hot Rod...well...seems that this guy fired someone on each episode...same with "street customs" ...each episode a guy gets fired...wtf????
And always I think "dude...get a lawyer to sue this guy".

Well I have watched every episode of American Hot Rod at least twice and I think you are talking ****.
Someone does NOT get fired on each episode. Far far from it.
Maybe you have only watch a few where they do and THINK they must all be like that...:dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno:

curious if anyone knows anything about the rolling foot-operated hydraulic lift stand thing edd uses. raise the car on the 2 post, and say he's taking an exhaust off, he'll undo the fasteners and put this thing under the muffler end of the exhaust, then undo the downpipe bolts and pull it apart; the hydraulic stand supports the muffler end and he holds up the downpipe end. i've looked but can't seem to find anything quite the same.

its got a 4 jaw cradle that sits on top of a small hydraulic cylinder. the hydraulic cylinder sits concentrically on/in a vertical tube and there is a foot pedal near the base that raises the cradle, and the whole shebang rolls on wheels. looks might handy.

It's called a transmission jack. They come in many different flavours and prices.
Obviously the clue is in the name, they are used for supporting gearboxes for
removal and installation as their primary function, but can be used for anything
that needs to be held.

I bought some Teng Tools off Ebay from a couple places in England. I haven't had any trouble and like the satin finish. I really like speedway bike racing and Teng was sponsoring alot of riders and some races so bought some stuff. I don't know about the Swedish design but they are a good quality Taiwan Tool and look like Taiwan design to me, maybe Swedish graphic design and marketing. Over all happy with tools and I use some at work daily. You can find everything they sell from other brands of Taiwan tools so I bought them for the racing deal as a thank you.

the thing is, edd's 'trans jack' is more like the thing on the right in the attached picture than the thing on the left. a tall, thin thing with probably an 8-10" cradle on top. while it might be a trans jack, it doesn't have any of the chains or securing mechanisms, nor nearly as beefy a cradle as what i'd consider to be a trans jack. but the cradle IS hydraulically lifted via foot pedal rather than a large threaded rod.

Trust me.. It's a Transmission jack. You have to remember for as long as there has been
cars, in Europe we have had the "small" car, and tools have evolved to service those cars.
It's only really been within the last 15 years or so that America has started to have
sensible sized cars with components to match, instead of these monstrous land boats that
made you feel car sick just by shutting the door to hard. The Vee Dub's and Honda Civic's
of the 60's and 70's were laughed at by the large car buying public of the day and it has
taken this long to finally shed the stigma of owning a small car... although I have no
doubt that some still have that view.

I'm sure if you searched hard enough you could find a Trans jack like Edd's, there must
be a few of them floating around the USA by now.

Teng Tools have been around a long time in the UK (25 yrs maybe), I cant say I,ve tried the pliers but the sockets/ratchets and wrenches work just fine.

The pictures posted dont look like any Teng gear I have ever seen.
Up to when you posted this, there weren't any pics of Teng gear - those sets were Newsome or something, but definitely not Teng gear.

I've been watching the current season of WD on Weds through the Velocity channel; I thought it was interesting, they were diagnosing a Diesel engine in a Land Rover Mark III (fuel injector wiring issue), they were using a Snap-On SOLUS Scan Tool! I still see Teng tools; being used and so is the storage/toolboxes, I guess, Teng doesn't sell diagnostic equipment?

Actually Billy, if you look carefully in that series they do a chassis swap on a TVR Cerbera
and I noticed Edd was using a Snap On quick release ratchet on that one. Obviously Teng
sponserd the show, but Edd himself has loads of different tool brands. I have seen Snap On,
Facom, Draper, Clarke, Britool in use on the show, and a few others I couldn't quite make
out.

Just like probably every mechanic out there he has allot of different tools collected over
many years..... Oh, and just to be Mr. Pedantic... the diesel engine car was a Range Rover
Vogue.

I really hope that another series is underway.... One of my favourite Shows.

The Teng tools logo is taken from the Japanese supernatural/mythical creature "Tengu". Quite odd for the marketing department to pick that name.

A couple guys in the shop are from Ireland and I saw some Teng hand tools. They were surprised that I knew of the name, and were perplexed when I told them where the name/logo comes from.
Typical Taiwanese design...made to meet European standards.

In the early episodes, Ed was working out of a series of smaller SnapOn boxes. He frequently uses a SO Solus Pro scanner

Rico, I am TOTALLY CLUELESS; when it comes to Range Rover anything; I have never even worked on one, much less driven one. I was just parroting; what Mike Brewer said, when he bought it on the show! Was he wrong; or was it at least the Mark III generation of that particular vehicle? As I said; I don't know anything about them... although, there is a British guy here in my area (New Mexico); that sells them (used car dealer) and he also restored a 1960s Jag XKE, I guess he cannot help but fix/sell/restore cars from GB! :) I guess; old loves; die hard (he was a former, Ferrari, British technician back in the day)! :)

The Range Rover was introduced in about 1970 and it was part of the Land Rover
division, it was essentially just a more upmarket and comfy Land Rover but was never
called a Land Rover.... As the years rolled by the Range Rover became more and more
luxurious, but still remains an amazingly capable off roader....

Mike did make a technical mistake by calling it a Land Rover... but like I said I was just splitting hairs.
The car they were working on, was the Mark 3 version of the Range Rover, and the Vogue
spec is the most luxurious... The original Land Rover that was being produced in the 1940's
is still for the most part being produced today under the Land Rover Defender name. It's
amazing how little has changed with the vehicle... but is one of the best off road vehicles in
the world.

The other cars launched under the Land Rover umbrella, the Discovery and Freelander, were
aimed between the Defender and Range Rover, with the Freelander being the fun urban
chic 4 x 4 and the Discovery being a capable mud plugger but with a little more in the
way of luxury, minus the insane price tag of the Range Rover.

Just watched the episodes; with a Porsche Boxter and another one with the British TVR...

I saw:

3/8" ratchet Stahlwille

1/2" ratchet new "A" revision Snap-on dual 80 with quick release

3/8" round roto head ratchet; it went by quick but I think it was Snap-on with a hard handle

1/2 cordless impact... Snap-on?

cordless screw gun... Snap-on?
