Sorry with the two auctioneers selling I was somewhere else when it sold. Don't know what it went, but it would be something interesting to have.

And you didn't get the Blackhawk Jack for me? WTF sumner....:lol_hitti

Good scores, I peep an expensive and rare Craftsman ratchet in your pile

I wanted the Blackhawk and the 4 ton Walker jacks. I think the whole pallet sold for $225. I didn't have anywhere to put them, and the guy I was talking to while in line for a number was bidding. Should have bought them. I brought home my 16' trailer empty. Everything I bought fit in the back of my truck.

I was very happy to find the craftsman speeder ratchet. I have bid on a few on ebay but nothing like finding one in the wild. It does have "NED" on it. People kept walking by the box it was in and picking up a hatchet then dropping it back in the box. Tore my nerves up. When I won the bid I picked it up and put it in my pocket and piled the rest on my pallet.

Holy Mary Mother of God that was one hell of an auction:shocking:. Wonder what fine stuff was there on the first day?:dunno:

Did you happen to see what the ESSO sign went for. I went to an auction on Sat. with alot of gas memorablia, but it was going for stupid money. I got a DAYTON tire sign for $160. I had massive buyer's remorse on the way home:willy_nil.

I hear ya man, you can't win them all  I would have did the same thing with that ratchet

I got all my things home from the auction today, it'll take a few days to finish sorting though everything and we still have 20+ pallets to pick up for my scrap buddy that I will get to dig through. :willy_nil I posted a bunch of my auction scores on my website, HERE.

Looked like a fun auction Sumner. Good that they spread it all out too. Was the shop cart in your purchases too?

Drove 40 mins away to see about a snap on box. It was maybe 15 years old but abused. Rust. Dents. Rough slides. And they wanted $3000 for it. Went back home.

Turns out a guy 5 houses up my street was having a sale. Picked these up for $2. Wasted an hour and a half.

Uarco ruler. Odd one. Marked in 1/10" and 5/32" and 1/6"

Man Sumner, I am sick with myself for missing that one. Can't believe that auction slipped through the cracks.

I had looked at the listing on auctionzip weeks earlier and the only pictures were of tractors. They closed the flea market here and I had to find something to do on my saturday off. I was looking at auctionzip about 10:00 friday night and they had posted many more pictures. Just got lucky to stumble on it.

It's actually an old forms design ruler for impact printers. The row of small holes correspond to pin feeds for continuous perforated forms (green-bar).
The different scales are for designing printed output... horizontal characters per line and vertical lines per page.

Gee, if I remembered that, I wouldn't admit it. Just like I'll NEVER admit remembering doing drafting with ink on linen. Nope, just heard of it, that's all.

Where I live is getting cold and crappy but if some of you are GS-ing Let me know if you come across a Gyro/Versa Vise base or attachments. I would greatly appreciate it.

I have 2 Gyro/Versa Vises, 1 is the tall jaw version and the other is the standard. I use them instead of just colecting but I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the screw out. Anyone?

Thanks

No the carts didn't come from this sale. I picked them up at various yard sales in the past couple years. They are primarily used to hold all the treasures I buy until I get them sorted and put away.

I am not sure if they sold the Esso sign. There was an old railroad sign as you head down the path and the daughter told to auctioneer not to sell that. I wondered off for a minute and don't know if they went down that path or not.

Sumner, I'll bet those large C Clamps sold for a premium at auction.

I hit up a moving sale Saturday. Lots of three's. Everything consolidated to 3 rooms of the house, 3 old ladies with great prices, and I left with 3 bins of tools including S-K set and Diamond 12", all for 3 five dollar bills. Then I picked up a few flea market bargains. All in all it turned into a truckload, but here are some of the biggest gems.

Snap On old time wedge wrench.

Early Snap On Brake spring pliers (broken hook, yet awesome logo).

Snap On 5/16" breaker bar.

I picked up a vise grip 20r patterson( chain clamp )- but no pics because its in evaporust until 2mrw.

Flea market etiquette scenario. Seller has a 10 gallon tub of tools on the ground. Customer is kneeled in front of tube looking at everything in tube and has a handful of tools. You mosey on up and want to start grabbing tools. What do you do?

I walked up and planted myself next to customer. He then put up 7 swivel impacts ( so, mac) and he asked how much and the seller said 14. Customer said how about 12 and seller says no. He starts looking at more of the tools and puts a couple of the swivels down. Another guy heard the price and planted himself right behind the customer. I thought " f this, im not gonna wait for this guy to pick over everything and then haggle on low priced tools" and just leaned into tub and grabbed a socket, paid 2 bucks and left. The guy behind customer quickly took my spot and grabbed mostly everything and paid asking price.

If it's in your hand or in your pile it's yours. If you put it back it's up for grabs. If another guy is at an open toolbox drawer I wait till he looks done and ask if he's done before grabbing anything out....some guys are not so patient. If it's a large bin and several guys can fit around the bin then I would say it's open season.

I picked up climbing gaffs for 85, a Craftsman crown top NOS torch set for 25, passed on a bunch of other crown top stuff. Ended up with one of the crown top dollies shown earlier in a box lot, a 4.5 inch anvil and a few other goodies. Buy of the night 100 dollar American girl doll and a bunch of clothes about 165 dollars in all for 2.50. I got all kinds of crazy looks until I said “what its a hundred dollar doll” daddy’s girl was happy to see that box come out of the truck tonight.

Didn't bother going to an auction preview and consequently overpaid for everything. Won't make that mistake again.

9450 missing a jaw (bolts are broke off flush, what fun that's going to be again) and a 4" that doesn't appear to have a model number. Also got a pair of school clocks, they ended up being plastic.

Also got this from the GJ classifieds. Been a dry past few weeks, I think this as close as I'm going to get to a garage sale for a few more months.

Link to newspaper story about American Pickers visiting Ned's place a couple years ago. Episode was season 5 #3 Duke of Oil.

Thanks for the link, I am a huge fan of the show.

I felt the need to respond to this too. I screwed myself way too many times missing the preview. Either not enough time to look and miss good deals, or else miss the condition issues like you just did. I got real lucky one time after I won a brand new badly dented Craftsman chest that I didn't inspect. I had an angel on my shoulder because the auctioneer went to hand it to me and he dropped it on the floor. Whew, I got out of that one big time.

Not bothered by the doll purchase, but confused by the fact that you knew the value. :lol_hitti

I should have caught the missing jaw, I noticed it after the auction ended. ***** because two others with both jaws sold for the same price. The guy spent ten minutes trying to find them and I almost thought they walked off and I'd get my money back but he did find them in the end for me to pick up.

I have a feeling that I got Rickster's leftovers again, but this was my $42 haul from an estate sale today. Most excited about the 6BN vise grips (been looking for a while) and I found another one of the real shallow craftsman carry boxes. The speeder and t-handle are snap-on, the wrenches are MAC and SK Wayne, the extensions are proto and a locking craftsman. Brake pliers are craftsman and so is one of the brake spoons, the other is a proto. The sockets are mostly Fleet, but there were some Cornwell, MAC, SK, and Proto in there as well.

Those little humans running around some houses are referred to as Children. I have one of those Children and she has interests in dolls and she shows me pictures of dolls in catalogs and then we buy the dolls and doll clothes. I show her the tool catalogs and she rolls her eyes so I have to show interest in what she likes when we spend time together. I think there was something in the instruction manual about spending time with them.

You're a good dad.. years from now you will reap the benfits of that. Who knows she may go to gargae sales with you when she is a teen.....Looking for dolls or even tools! More than one girl shared interest with thier dad because dad was interested in her interests!!! Yup, you ae a good dad! ;)

Can you please post a link to this instruction manual you speak of? All my little humans are crying right now and I can't figure out why :).

Finally completed the old tools display at my shop. I've gotten a lot of good comments on them and hope to add a few more soon.

Yup, I believe that was from the sale in downtown Farmington. They opened at 10am but I got there at 6:30. Guy running the sale showed up at 8am and I started talking to him and he invited me in to look over the tools in the garage and I managed to talk him into letting me buy a box of tools before they opened. I left that Snap-on speed wrench behind, I have a couple. I got a nice set of Mac swivel sockets, a set of Snap-on deep impacts a set of Craftsman deep metric impacts and a bunch of loose tools.

That'd be the one. I already had one speeder but grabbed it anyways. Prices seemed high to me but he was willing to deal at the end of the day.

While I have minimal use for dog bone and other "gimmick" wrenches, I have to admit a fascination for the early versions of them. The new stuff leaves me cold, but the older stuff...

Nice finds!
