Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Finished taking apart the motor on my vintage Dewalt MBF RAS. The cord to the motor was rotten and the project sort of snowballed from there.

Ordered bearings and took it apart using a P&C Puller and a P&C bearing splitter. It came apart without a hitch - even the somewhat dreaded removal of the fan / housing assembly.

Now I need to find a way to press it back together . . . . Don't have a press.

I think I have access to a larger puller that I can use sort of in reverse.

Cheers

Jim

I grabbed a 4ft florescent light on garbage night. Put a new ballast in it and hung it up.

Got the kreg jig set up and did some test joints. Now i will be starting some toy boxes and who knows what else

I was at my dad's house and changed the oil in his generator.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Moved a whole lot of **** around, so I can get my Chevy into the garage. It is amazing how much junk you can save in 30 years. The last time that I moved, I filled a 40 yard dumpster with stuff that I thought that I wouldn't ever need again, only to regret throwing away a lot of things that I could have either sold or used. Finally put all my oxygen and acetylene cylinders all in one pace. I keep finding fulled bottles at swap meets, and they are cheaper than having them filled. I have a good collection of used empty bottles to turn in and exchange for filled bottles. The local gas dealer will take the extra empties and give me credit toward the gas that that I am buying.
Last night my wife had told me that she has nightmares about cleaning out the garages. I suggested that her next husband could deal with it. She said that after me, there will be no other. She told me that it will all go into a dumpster, just like the last time.
Tomorrow I put the snow removal equipment on the tractor.. If I put the blower on, then we get a light snow, and I need the blade. If I put the blade on, then we get heavy snow, and I need the blower. Just can't win with old man winter... :headscrat

I just piddled around for awhile putting some studs in to finish and insulate one wall then took an office chair apart to make a shop chair with. Then went to a buddies garage to help him with a 1964 Jaguar Mark 2. He took the plug wires off and didn't mark anything, like which hole on the distributer was #1.:scared:

Replacing heads, a piston, and head gaskets on my sons Dodge 2500. It appears that he blew a head gasket. Two bend exhaust valves and one piston was burnt down to the ring. Both heads were warped.

I told him that we don't keep parts on hand so we can abuse our daily drivers. :headscrat Hemis don't just break like this for no reason...

You want a toy to beat get a toy. Don't flog the truck you need for work.

Headers are going to be fun...

Bonus points for anyone that IDs the engine.

Tried out a new to me tig welder. This was my first attempt at a TIG bead on aluminum, actually it was my first tig bead period. Gas welding has trained my hands alright. Got to figure out all the settings and what not.

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Figured out how to move 575 lbs out of my truck and into the shop.

CL find of the month for me.

Jet 40" shear brake roll for $200

Sold some unwanted tools for $60, so I'm really only out $140.

Need to do some minor adjustments, and remove one small nick on the shear.

I know these machines aren't as good as the dedicated task units, but it will do what I need.

Makes a nice addition to the 48" brake I already have.

Made these cool casters for my workshop bench this weekend.

So if you see me rolling by, throw me a rope.

A buddy found this in his newly aquired house and gave it to me.

Cleaned it up and mounted between my service doors.

Unfortunately didn't get a chance to do much wrenching in the shop this weekend due to plowing freakin' snow most of the weekend. Have I mentioned how much I hate snow?

Went out to the garage...followed my path from one end to the other...did my usual 360 degrees...laughed to myself and wondered how in the world did I get my garage in this shape and when will I stop laughing and do something about it! Well, I laughed and came back into the house...looked back out to the garage and laughed again. I say that these are "laughs" but they are something more serious than just laughter.
I envy you guys that have the "get her done" attitude. Suggestions?

Do you have kids? Organize a working party to clean things up.. I recommend that you do a quick sketch up of how you want to organize the sections and where you want things to go...

Building extra shelving above the garage door helped me a lot.. just one shelf that ran the length of the door was enough to stow away seasonal decorations and "extra" 782 gear

Good Luck!

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

I screwed with the new computer again today. For some reason the last couple of days I couldn't get e-mail in the garage. It's a new computer, was working fine, then just decided to not retrieve my e-mails. I reloaded things which wasn't supposed to take away from any files, but that was horseshit. I had to reload all of the Office programs, which did reload Outlook. I had to reload my CAD program, and being it is wireless out to the garage, the signal would connect, then disconnect, connect again, then disconnect. A real pain in the caboose. I finally think I have things going my way though. At least for a little while.

Then I look around and see the other 100 things that I need to do to get the item list finished. And that list seems to grow. And a couple of hours ago, the wife comes out and tells me she is having battery troubles again in her '02 Toyota Solara. I just worked on it a month, month and a half ago. The car has a brand new battery, I cleaned the cables, I neutralize the acid one the cables, and did everything by the book. But non-the-less, the positive cable is super coated with corrosion again in that small amount of time. I don't have a clue as to what is causing it, and when I posted about it back a month or so ago, a lot of other members say that they have the same problem but can't figure out why it does it either.

Oh well...at least I have a few cold ones in the 'fridge, I have heat, so all is good as far as that goes.

Yesterday, made a little progress on this cyclecar project. Next step is to work out the clutch and shifter linkage. The goal is to have it on the road by next summer.

I know the feeling. Start small. Get a trash can and just throw away the trash. Something I've done before which has actually worked to some degree is every single time I'm in the garage, I'll put 1 thing back in its place. Or if I use 1 thing, I put 2 things back. Sooner or later, it starts getting cleaned up.

Or you can go all in, carve out 2-3 hours, and just do it. All these methods have worked for me at various times. But, as the Jagmandave above mentioned, sometimes its just too cold to want to do anything out there!

Re: What did you do in your garage today?

Made a mount for the Fahrenheat FUH724 from some scrape metal I had. This mount allows me to turn the heater towards either end of the garage.

Still need to clean up the mount and paint it.

Cleaned a muzzleloader I am borrowing from a friend. Someone shot it last season and never cleaned it, so things were a bit corroded...

Hoppes #9 smells pretty good.
