Got the first of my Industrial singles from Grainger- the 19MM long full polished came in today. Made in USA. Also was able to score one of the smaller size full polished sets that were up on ebay for $45 shipped, should be getting that somewhere around the middle of the week. Looks like I will have almost everything in this configuration under 1"/21MM by the end of the week.

Finally received my order today after weather delays. Packing was like everyone else's, everything thrown in a box with some air cushions on top. Luckily the box wasn't damaged and nothing was missing.

Received my order today also. Same here! Everything loose in the box with air cushions. Box looked great, but when I turned it over there was a big gaping hole in the corner where the seam of the box didn't close completely, and no tape over it to seal it. Did a quick inventory and everything was there!

Is the black oxide finish on these wrenches any different from the finish on common impact sockets?

Got my order today. All went well. Box was packed with loose items, but no damage and all there. All tools were USA Industrial. Very pleased.

Just put another order in.

Does anyone know how to make the searching more streamlined? I found it very time consuming. I had a list of the sockets I needed but it keep coming up with everything but the size or drive I would put in.

Yes, it ruins the black oxide. So does soaking it in vinegar. Too bad I found out after soaking some good adjustables in it. It wears them off and they get flaky and start to rust. But black oxide is generally not a good rust preventative finish IMO. Chrome or powder coated usually does better for me and the way I use tools.

Picked up my order today of 10 individual items. I had the order sent to the local Sears store for the free delivery. All items were loose in a single padded plastic pouch, but all items were in fine shape. All 10 items were Made in USA and the total came to just over $25.

Black oxide as a corrosion protection is very similar to gun bluing. It only protects against rust if it is also coated with a thin layer of oil.

In my opinion, that makes black oxide/bluing both functionally useless, as the same corrosion protection could be achieved by keeping bare steel coated with a thin layer of oil.

Well, yes and no. It is "similar" to gun bluing, but not the same. And, when combined with a secondary coating such as oil or wax, it does provide greater corrosion protection that just oiling bare metal.

There are basically two types of rust; red and black. Red rust (ferric oxide, Fe2O3) is our common old junk rust. Black rust or black oxide (magnitite, Fe3 O4) is a specially generated surface oxidation used as the tool coating. If a tool has a surface of black oxide it is much less susceptible to additional rusting as more of the iron atoms are bonded to oxygen atoms. However, it alone does not prevent all further oxidation, so alone it is a somewhat poor corrosion protection. However, if combined with an oil, wax, or lacquer, it is provides an excellent INDOOR corrosion protection; much better than just oil or wax alone. It is NOT GOOD as an outdoor tool protection.

So what about just wipe them down with WD 40 ?

I ordered 25 sockets today. I am trying to complete the sets in one of my tool chests. For some reason my OCD kicks in and I can't stand the fact that I have empty spots where something should be and nothing is there.

At one point in the check out process it said I was going to get $94 in points back! I really should of checked out right then and there but when I added one more thing it went away. Not sure what happened but I couldn't get it back again. Anyway I would of felt guilty that many points back.

They are shipping to the store, hope they all make it.

Update: Just got a tracking number. Shipped the same day!

My first round of three shipments came in today. Very nice. My only regret is that I didn't order more when the Industrials first went live, before lots of pieces sold out.

Jonathon75, speaking of ocd, does it bother you that the socket organizer seems to hog a lot of space? I thought of getting that one but I felt like some hansen style trays would be a bit more space efficient/ I didn't want just rails because the trays are easier to get the sockets out, for me anyway.

Damn that tray does take up a lot of space. I have the metric and sae sets from Lowes that are $5 now. They work great, but still take up their fare share of space. I, like you Jonathan, want to fill some holes with these Industrial sockets. They don't necessarily match my -ee- series sets, but I'm just glad they're USA made. I just need to get some more cash in before I try to finish anything out. I swear this site will make a man broke. lol.

I don't mind how big it is. Actually I like how it is laid out. It makes it very easy to find what you need. The Hansen's I use for my long sockets.

I want to keep to Craftsman to complete the set but at this point I didn't care if China or USA just to fill the empty spots. This deal came up so I get to get USA. I do have some German sockets in there too but I don't think they were made in Germany if I recall.

My original set from around 18 years ago I just filled the rest of the tray up. It was missing around 4 large sockets. It always bothered me that you buy a compete set with case and they had empty spots in it! But at the time I didn't have any money to buy more. Two weeks ago I got a large set in a bulk pack and changed them out for USA singles in the store a few days later. Here is a picture of my first set. The 1/4 ratchet is not in the picture because I have it on my desk waiting to fix it.

Edit: I just ordered the two professional ratchets 1/2 and 3/8 and 16, 18, 19 and 20mm combination wrenches. One of them I think says long and not standard but maybe I can change it in the store. I wanted 17mm but I couldn't find it cheap. Everything above 20mm I gave up on looking for it.

Did anyone order the Pro Cross Force Wrenches? If so, are the ones they are shipping US made or Chinese? The new version of this wrench is made in Asia and I want the US made ones.

Thanks

I have spent a lot -a lot of money due to this site................I love it (the site and buying tools) though.

These tools should last a lifetime. Better to get them when cheap then pay top dollar when you really need it. I love to brag to my wife when I use a tool that I purchased cheap years ago that I finally use. Someone started a thread on here about inflation and costs double every 22 years.

I think when I retire and may have less money to live on I will be happy that I got everything I needed when I was younger to keep busy in my old age.

Anyway I am just making stuff up to justify our habit. hahaha

WOW. First time I finally clicked this thread and was very confused. I have been reading it for a week as saying industrial SHingles and just was not interested.

My Industrial ones came like that...from the factory!

Then again, they're tools and not fine art.

I bought all the Metric singles to make a 13 piece set. They are suppose to be here Thursday. They should all be Industrial Made in the USA. But can confirm that for sure when they get here Thursday.

Larger size wrenches, like 24mm-30mm are going to be really expensive, they're still like 50% off I think at those prices.

I got 6-22mm, might snag a 23mm if there's any around when I get my $10 for march.

Prices have definitely gone up a few dollars on the larger ones, but they are still considered a good deal. Not the same prices people were paying a week ago though. I had a couple of the 1"+ sizes in my cart, waiting for my points to update, which they finally did last night. When I went to order the large SAE sizes, they were all up $3-5 each.

Dang it. Prices definitely went up. I had the two SAE deep offsets in my cart for the last few days, were $5.99 each. Now they are $7.99 and $8.99.

They are also marked as "Hot Buys", which makes them very coupon unfriendly.

The prices before were cheaper, had an online percentage off, and allowed for coupon stacking for $ off and extra points.

Still a good deal, but not as awesome as before. Lesson learned (for those who don't already know this) you have to strike fast with Sears when the deals are posted. Shoot first, and ask questions later. You can always return the tools to Sears if you change your mind later.

Exactly... that 1 1/4" wrench was tempting when it was like $12.99. Now at $19.99 and it won't let me add coupons to it, not so tempting.

I think I might have gone overboard with the recent sears deals. Wish I had ordered the industrial wrenches sooner.
