How does $3 sound?

I'd say $3 sounds like you ****! Twice, since the compressor was also $3.

Nine, I'm always up for picking up another pair of vintage Wiss - Snips or Scissors, either one! I was surprised though, most Wiss are marked inlaid, these MAY be inlaid, but no markings. I looked on the back side of the blades after cleaning, and usually the inlay is easily seen as a sharp line; this looks fuzzy...

Do you have any history on Wiss? I know they ere the mainstay for Upholstery and sewing types of work for decades. this pair is marked "WISS USA" and "SMS", and the blades have a small inlet ground the inside length of the blade near the edge, as well as an extended thumb rest. I've never seen a pair quite like them.

Unfortunately, I don't know any history of the Wiss brand but I do have quite a few pairs laying around. I was not all into the individual tool makers history until I joined here, I was just into tools I knew to be of quality but since joining here, I have learned a lot of background history that's really interesting.

Also, forgot to mention the big YOU **** on that Starrett!!

Oh, Outlaw gets a MEGA You ****! award for that vise.

It is funny though. You just have to ask if it's for sale and you never know the response nor the price. :)

Thanks guys! The vise looks like **** as is, but there is hardly a nick in it, and the jaws are near pristine, AND no hammer marks on the slide or back! :D

DIF, he did all the removal from the bench! :D.

I actually went back and asked about the pipe jaws, no dice...

Goggles are for my daughter and SWMBO who recently started a swim exersize regimen.

JJ, absolutely correct! ALWAYS ask. The most they can say is no... (See my sig..)

It's Father's Day.

Male tool buyers and especially sellers were off doing family things today.

And that does not look like a punch, but a nail set. I have several and even bought one more today. They are used for counter-sinking finish nails. :)

Roger that on Father's Day, you are probably right about they are taking the day off of flea markets for the day.

And it is, in fact, a punch. Looks like a nail set, but the point is flush, no indent where a nail head would go, and there is also a size marked on the side, 3/16. Never seen a nail set have a size marking.

It was kinda a breaker bar weekend.

One quick sale yesterday due to home repair tasks, and a quick tour thru the outdoor flea this morning. Many tool vendors not there for Father's Day and the regualrs had some now tools but many had some big 5 gallon buckets of sockets, wrenches and other seperated items that I really did not have the time to delve thru.
Prolly next week.

12' Lufkin USA tape measure, 3/8" Billings USA breaker bar, USA nail set, and older Enderes 4 in 1 for $3

1/2" Wright Industrial finsih USA breaker bar with functioning ball detents for both socket and head swivel, Nicholson rat tail file with Cincinnati made handle and Snap-on OEX 180 combo all for $4.

Two Craftsman 1/2" drive =V= sockets for a $1 for both. One 15/16", the other 1"-1/4.

A couple of funnels and a stockpile of USA made wire nuts NOS and USA made zip ties (Gawd I hate the Chinese made crappy ones) and a bag of various allen head bolts for $2.

Old S-K 1/4" drive set metal box only for $1.50. Works fine. Friction lock still works, Will need a little TLC.
Likely will go up to jeffmoss26 since he is always looking for things to store stuff in like many others here.

Evaporust or vinegar for the file and breaker bars but they will be put to good use.

Not really a great weekend, but not bad. And certainly not wallet busting. LOLZ. That'll be next week.

Sorry, it is a nail set. The finish nails are made concave a bit to help hold the set, and yes, they come in different sizes for different sized finish nails. Usually 4 sizes IIR. You use a size equal to or slightly smaller than the nail head

OK, I found another TOO when I went back to the estate sale looking for the Pipe jaws for the Starrett. (no dice :( )

The guy or his mom was an ex-Antiques dealer, but had quite a few old tools and gizmos..

I started with the brass pepper grinder, and then started looking for odd bit and pieces, here and there, and found some! :D

The brass pepper grinder caught my eye since it was old and brass. That one will go into camping/picnics; The wood clamp was next, and then I found an old roller tool box and a cabinet against the fence in a corner: 2 Body hammers, one is clearly of Plumb/Proto/SO antecedents, but it's been modified. That "gold" started shining through when I did the fine wire wheel. Sometimes you really do find "gold"! A heel dolly, 38 oz smiths hammer head, that one is a GrayBar, and an odd little adjustable fixture.

attachment.php

This crazy looking thing is a 2 RPM (actually just over 2...) display rotor motor and mechanism!

attachment.php

All for $16! :D

You definitely **** for the vise and body tool scores. That's a nice beefy heel dolly. I use them more than any other dolly when doing metal massaging on a vehicle.

My scores were small, but so was the cost. $5 yielded me all this today. The 1/4" sockets are all Craftsman SAE from different eras. I did get one complete set up to 1/2".

The box was the coolest score IMO. I like the fact that it opens from the side. Anyone know what it could of originally housed?

The Bonney T28 1/2" ratchet was a nice grab. I believe they were based in Philly at one time, but they are fairly rare to see for sale even around here.

Today I stopped at the flea market and found a box of craftsman circle H 1/2" drive sockets, some Duro Hex drive sockets with a hex drive ratchet, and a New Britian 1/2" Drive ratchet that looks like my circle H ratchet almost for $7 in a metal box.

I also got a SK screwdriver the solid green handle for a quarter and it's made in France it says, didn't know they were made in France at one time. When did this happen?

When they come out of the cleaning solution I'll post pictures of the sockets and ratchets.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there. Hope you all enjoyed your day! Had an event filled weekend myself.

Friday was the opening day of an estate sale that I noticed on the internet a couple months ago. It stuck out to me over all of the others not only because of the few tools in the pictures, but also because it was being held in the beach town that I lived in through all of my 20's. The place had a really wide variety of unique items. It was almost museum like. I saw a few wall mounted cabinets with hand tools in a garage, but what caught my eye most were a couple of small vices clamped to a stud in what looked like an attic.

It just so happens that my fiancee and I currently rent a summer house there with our 3 year old and were there just about every weekend. I figured we could pack up and head down on Thursday night so we could be there nice and early on Friday morning. Everything worked out as planned and we got there toddler-in-tow at around 8:15 for a 9:00 opening.

We got our tickets and ended up being around the 12th & 13th in line to go in the door. After a short fiasco with an unruly patron that didn't understand how numbers work, we were let in with the first wave and I went straight for the garage while she and the kid went inside for a stack of WW2 era newspapers that she had noticed in the photos. I ended up having the garage all to myself other than the cashier and a helper that seemed to be in charge of anything in the garage.

"Just throw together a bunch of stuff and I'll price it our for you at the end", he says. Sweet. Grabbed a box and went straight for the cabinet that seemed like it had more "mechanic" type tools. Craftsman =V= combination wrenches, check. Craftsman DBE wrenches, sure. 3/8 socket set that I thought I saw, got it. You get the idea.

So I fill up with a bunch of stuff and my fiancee comes back in and drops off our daughter with me so she can go back in for some old dovetail liquor boxes in the attic. ****, let me go grab those vises in the attic real quick. Grabbed them (mind you, the second group of people is still being held at the door) and head back to the garage. Just as I jet back down with the 2 small vises from the attic I notice that there is a larger vise bolted to the bench in the garage. Good thing I found those Cman wrenches! OK got it, go!

Since the garage was kinda cramped and full of sharp/not kid friendly things I'm holding my daughter while sorting through easy to get to things. My box of stuff is off to the side by the cashiers area. An older gentleman is the only person other than me that is showing interest in the tools. We chat for a second and he's into woodworking stuff which there is plenty of and I'm not too interested in anyway. He fills up a box and off he goes. My partner in crime shows back up with her items of choice and I decide to take another look on the bench before we head out.

There's wood boxes stacked on the bench with all sorts of miscellaneous things (mostly woodworking stuff) but I notice a silver painted metal box towards the back. I grab it an open it to find an old 1/2" socket set with a t-handle and speeder. "Nice, I was looking for something old like this to start a collection with", I think to myself. On the paper insert I see it…Snap-On. Woah, OK. Close it up, throw it (ie. gently place it) in the box with the rest of my stuff to purchase.

I call over the guy in charge of the tools and he hits me with a number. $70. Poker face. Don't break your arm getting the money, you have tools to carry. Paid. Thank you.

Since this post is worthless without photos..

I went into this hoping for a decent vise and maybe I would stumble across an old 1/2" SK socket set and maybe even my first Snap-On piece like a screwdriver or an old pair of pliers to collect. I can definitely say that I got all of that and more :3gears:

Thanks!

I haven't been to many garage sales recently, but on Saturday I went to a promising one a few miles from my home. It was about a one acre property in a rural area with tons of tools, but many of them had been sitting outside for too long, and almost all of them were only average quality China/Taiwan tools to begin with. I was able to find a couple nicer vintage US made professional quality tools, but they were all priced way beyond what it would cost me to have the same items delivered to my door from Ebay.

The one item I did find was a 3/8" Snap-On fkf936 stubby flex ratchet. The best part was when I asked about it the owner told me he always hated the thing because it was so hard to ratchet, so he sold it to me for $4! After giving him the $4 and putting the ratchet in my car, I went back and asked him semi-jokingly if there were any other tools that he hated and wanted to get rid of. Unfortunately the answer was no.:(

When I got home, I opened the ratchet up and the internals were pristine. The previous owner was right, the back drag was horrendous, but what he didn't realize was how easy that is to fix. I snipped off a couple pawl spring coils and put the ratchet back together and now it is as smooth as butter and functions just as well as all my other ratchets.

How many people on Garagejournal can double their Snap-On ratchet collection for $4 like I just did:lol_hitti? The other one I have is a 3/8" F80.

MK3:nice haul for $70 and a great story too. i bet the guys waiting at the door when you came out with all that stuff were going ballistic by then.

Jeremy: Outlaw has a great point and if he doubled his collection he'd need another warehouse.:lol_hitti

nice find and is there a thread or threads on repairing ratchets? sounds easy, but I've never had a broken one and passed on a lot of them at the sales because usually had plenty of good ones to buy for the same price.

I like the small Parker!

Thanks, me too! I was hoping to find more of a "big boy" type vise like the old Parker and even though its small, it sure is beefy. When I get around to building my welding/fab table this will be its main vise.

that snap on set belongs on a mantle, that is just too cool!

I agree. Soon as my office is more organized, it will find a nice home on display in there. It served more than enough time in a garage and I think it needs some proper appreciation for all of its hard work!

MK3:nice haul for $70 and a great story too. i bet the guys waiting at the door when you came out with all that stuff were going ballistic by then.

The attic stairs in the garage were roped off so to get to the garage attic you needed to go through the house and through the main attic. The main attic stairs were located 5 about feet from the front door. I tried not to notice all of the angry stares as I came down dodging people with the 3 small vises behind my back :lol_hitti

cub cadet international harvester garden tractor model 129. 38" mower deck, mule drive, QA36A snow blower and snow chains all for $325. runs like a top and cuts awesome.

the only problem I found is the speed lever for the hydro advances its self if you take your hand off of it. kinda scarey in small areas if that happens

I will make sure I post a pic when I forget to bring my phone with me. (I no longer weld and have my phone in my shirt pocket anymore for the reason a hot nugget and plastic/cotton don't mix)

I sold a bunch of cheap tools at my garage sale last weekend.
Does that count?
I moved a lot of hand tools and power tools along to people that could use them, rather than having them waste space in my shop or garage.

And, I got BEER money!!

It sounds like your area is just as full of dickheads as my estate sale hunting grounds are. Good thing you were able to get past the traffic jam and score some goodies.

I like the Snap on box you found and amazed that another showed up so quickly. I found the exact same box, No.707, with most of the tools but no paperwork, a few weeks ago. According to collectingsnapon.com, they are somewhat rare and were made for Ford vehicles. It looks like yours is missing the Ell bar, short extension, universal and ratchet adapter head.

If you clean up that sliver paint on the outside, don't be surprised if you find a Snap on decal underneath it. Mine was obscured by 30 years of dust/dirt but i was able to read it with some cleaning.

Great finds:beer:

Far as I know, it does count cause I did the same thing!

I shifted through my collection and decided what I want to keep and what I want to get rid of. I figured it would give me more money to get the other tools I wanted!!

I had a garage sale last weekend too! Cleared 5K! Sold boats and everything I haven't used in a while and I bought me a new beater car with money. My old car broke a rod after 234,000 miles!, they just don't make them like they use to!, And I have money left over to buy more tools I want!
