it actually came apart fairly easily. the guts are soaking now. they dont look too bad. worst case i need a rebuild kit.
EDIT: After soaking and removing the rust I think this ratchet is a goner. There is a lot of pitting on the internal parts and No matter what I do I cannot get it to work. The pitting wont allow the main gear or pawl to move freely inside the body of the ratchet.

A frustrating morning today. 5 out of 6 sales that advertised "tools" had junk, lied, or had nothing that interested me.
The first sale was just as bad. An Estate Sale run by the family, only one of which showed up to do the sale. So, he was stuck selling the fluff out in the driveway and couldn't open up the house by himself. The garage wasn't open for sale, but I could see a really nice vise through the door with an anvil next to it. There was a 10" Baldor grinder as well. I asked if the vise was for sale and was told that the tools in the garage were keepers. It was a Rock Island 577 in excellent shape. Only the tools in the basement (not open to the public) would be sold once the family showed up to relieve him to supervise the basement. I went back later and they still hadn't bothered to show up. I was told to try again tomorrow morning.
We'll see how it goes. 
I was able to leave with a heavy rolling shelf unit for $10 though. (pic 1&2)
Yes, the shelves are listing. It's missing some of the screws. But good news, I had bought a box of the same screws at a sale last weekend. Just one of the 6" casters cost more than I paid for the whole unit.
Between the other 5 sales I only found dregs. The three pieces I scrounged cost me a whopping $3. (pics 3&4)
a HF quality tire inflator w/gauge (destined for the garage so the BIL won't touch my good one)
a Cman short T25 driver
and 18' of 12/2 NM-B wire (useful for when I re-arrange the lights in the shop to light the benches)

Karma is a good thing.Last week I sold a vise to a member here on GJ. he drove a couple + hrs to get here and was also meeting someone else and buying more vises.I had told him if I could help him out in anyway to let me know.So I get a text on Sunday asking if I could pick up a vise near me and hold it until this weekend. Well at that time I was 4 hrs away from home along with a planned overnight stay but GJ member and CL seller agreed to hold until I could get there Tuesday.Tuesday picked up vise also stopped in a local pawn shop and found a Snap On SLX80A 1/2" dr 24'" flex ratchet like another member here on GJ was looking for so after a couple PM's I headed back to the pawnshop ,acquired the ratchet and came home and mailed that off. Here's where the karma begins: GJ member is on his way to pick up new vise from earlier this week,while waiting having coffee I search CL for bargains and find a Masterforce 56" rolling box on CL in Toledo OH for $100!! I email the seller and give my number,seller calls and I explain that I am waiting for one person to pick up before I can drive the 1hr15mins to get there. Seller agrees to hold the box until I get there,I instantly had agreed to the asking price. So while I am at his garage sale I also get a Snap On FHLF80 and a FHL80 pair of ratchets for $60 more!!!
So for $160,2 hrs of driving and gas I got this:
To top it all off I had went to a local Poker Room last night,took 5th place and won $160 playing cards.
I've got a couple beautiful porterhouse steaks to throw on the grill tonight from a friend's butcher shop ,it's a balmy 78 degrees here.I'd say I am having a good weekend!!

I found this Dentist's tool/instrument cabinet from the 1940's. The daughter of the original dentist sold it to me for $40 at the g-sale. It's a lot heavier then it looks and built like a brick *********. (metal lined drawers w/rollers!!). One drawer didn't close all the way but it was because dental instrument fell to the bottom!! (it's about 16"X53"X40"). It should be great for small tools.
The Echo was $15, the Stihl was $5 (he said it needs a top end kit)

- only used it a few times, but more than paid for itself

Mixed bag today, good start with an unscheduled stop at a church FM.
A MC ramp and a pair of US made 2T 15" jack stands. Ten for the ramp, $5 for the stands:
Battery Connector, Door ease, Soldering Copper, Hand Vise, Crescent 6" Linemans pliers and in the next pic, ARCO Graphite oil - How many of you remember getting oil in Qt. cans like this? I don;t thing ARCO sold this stuff for 30 years or so! I've been watching for a few cans of this stuff for ages! not for use in engines although it worked well (but liked to seep past the seals...); I discovered (By spilling some...) you could heat up headers or exhaust manifolds and burn some of this on, and presto! black/dark grey color that won't peel ever, and the metal won't rust after that!

I remember them. I see the spouts at sales all the time. When I do, I laugh because I know that most mechanics under 40yo don't have a clue what they are. I remember when you had to open a can of beer with a can opener as well (though I was too young to drink at the time).
There are times when I wonder if I'm older than my birth certificate.

Dave I have an older version of that Dentists cabinet, and passed on a smaller similar one last weekend; closer to 12" front to rear... Too much footprint for the shallow drawers front to back...
Mine is 38 wide X 18 deep and 44 high on the main box. it also has the "hidden" compartments. - some lead lined. The front corners are square and the slides are friction though. The top shallow drawers are not as deep front to rear because of the lift mechanism for the compartments on top/back...
Mine has been Parts/hardware central for over 30 years now. the top left drawers ar all bolts and washers from 1/4 through 3/4. I keep the coarse bolt on the life and the fine on the right in each drawer. I recently starter using some of the right bank for certain specialty tools, the deep lower drawers and all bulky parts and pipe fittings and the like.
On to more of my day:
A fairly decent Estate sale I nearly missed; I double checked the listing on CL and it was gone! but I was in the close neighborhood and followed the signs and it was open...
1945 Canteen cup, an iron bound Wood Mallet, Stilletto BP Hammer, A pistol grip for a Mossberg Shotgun:
More estate sale goodness: an Old Stanley Level with vial protectors, an Air screw driver a pair of new work gloves
And a homeowners Vise with cobbled up jaw pads... All the estate sale goodies were $10.
Some stuff for SWMBO and the daughter units:
Rings & necklaces & a watch clock: $9 all
Pyrex Lids, Butter Slicer, roasting spikes,and a wide mouth Aluminum funnel.

I scored one of those dental cabinets a few years ago for $25 off of CL. They are VERY well built, and heavy like you mentioned. Yours appears to be larger than mine was so I can imagine how fun it was to move.
One cool feature mine had was you would press a button on the front cover and the entire top cover would pop open.

At the last stop I got a nice Bosch sheet metal nibblers for only $10 seller threw in the Roto strip for free. Always wanted one of these to mess around with.

All of the above. The frame is mostly wood. The drawers, slides, upper bench top and trim is metal. The upper cabinet lids look to be plastic.

Some good scores today guys!
I hit three planned stops but the pickins were slim, I did grab a Sears (Associated Equipment Corp.) battery charger with box and paperwork that looks like it's never been used for $5.
On the way home I hit a regular stop and found a few odds and ends; Fairmount body hammer, Snappy #4 Phillips hardhandled screwdriver and SX-2 extension, Proto 11/16" line wrench and 1/4" punches, S-K 1/2" x 9/16" DBE wrench and CMan 3/8" drive 3/4" deep socket at .50 per item.
Hope the swap meet tomorrow is better than today.

Looks like everyone has been doing really well. I picked these up today. The Coleman lantern case is just that only the case, the other things are a Seelye plastict welder with an extra tip, a Quicksilver bearing carrier nut wrench [ NOS ], an arbor for a hole saw,a Century mini propane light [ brand new ], and a pair of super magnets also new. paid $30 for the lot.

A surprisingly good weekend for a change. Usually tools around here are overpriced.
Hit two sales near work yesterday. The first was an estate sale with lots of activity in the garage and I spotted this little tool box on the floor that no one was interested in. I could tell it was old and had just the partial remains of a Craftsman decal on the hip roof lid. Original leather handle still mostly intact. I peeked inside and unfortunately not containing the original socket set but a bunch of useful electrical boxes and hardware. I asked how much it was and the lady in charge says, Did you know it has a broken latch? I did not see anything broken but took her word for it. She said $5 and I quickly put it aside for my pile. The electrical boxes inside are worth the $5 paid so the box was basically free. Turns out its a 1935 Craftsman Hip Roof Box that should have had a tool tray and a couple different socket sets. When I got it to the car I double checked and no broken latches. They all work fine, score! I love the old design, the dark blue wrinkle finish paint and the classic decal. Craftsman should bring back this color.
Digging thru the loose tools on the bench netted a few more goodies. A 16" Fleet 1/2" breaker bar (marked $3), a Dayton drill index set missing only one drill bit, a Utica Tool 4" adjustable, a Crescent 6" adjustable, 2 wood handle old screwdrivers with the shank through the handles, and a no name 2 1/2" machinist vise. I offered $5 total for all this and she accepted my offer.
2nd sale yesterday netted this small 2 drawer card size file cabinet that will be perfect for bench top storage. $2. It even had rubber drawer liner in place and some bonus sheets of vinyl numbers.
More to come.

Only one find today. A Beach Toolbox, never seen one of these before, can anyone tell me more about them? It was pretty heavy and all the drawers slide well so I gave him the $25 he asked for it. Really like the color, hard to tell in pics, but it is like a Candy Apple Red. Debating a repaint? Also had the chance to take my son with me to some of his first sales. He will be posting on here in about 20 years with his finds!!

At Sale #1 I bought a Craftsman carry box loaded with good stuff for $10.00. I haven't had time to go through it a sort the good from the bad - but there's Snap On, Indestro and Williams stuff in there.
At Sale #2 I found an 8 drawer Berloy storage cabinet. They wanted $12.00 and I had to unload a metric ****-ton of stuff from the drawers before I could cart it out of the basement. I quick Google indicates that it's older and probably military - based on the OD green under the hideous red paint I concur. I need to re-jigger my basement to fit this but it provides a bunch of storage.
While waiting for LOML to come back a handtruck I picked up a few things for $8.00.
A set of Dunlap DOE wrenches in a metal clip.
A Dunlap 8" adjustable wrench.
A Peterson Vice Grip - older with no "release" lever,
A funky Auto Grip wrench.
Several pairs of leather and cloth gloves - not pictured.

Got a late start today for local garage sales but stopped at a few around town and was starting to think it would be a total bust. Lots of baby clothes left but not much else. Then one last place and scored this nice little 5 gallon Stanley shop vac. I offered $5 and they countered at $7. So, we plugged it in to make sure it works and home it went. A little clean up with Simple Green and a new filter was all that was needed. I had some extra attachments from and old dead shop vac that fit perfectly. It's the perfect size for storage in and use around the garage.

Not much here lately. Had to scrape to find some sales that sounded good. No epic scores today, but I think I got some interesting pieces:

This morning, first stop. Really oversold the tools in the ad. These came out of the $1 box:
Craftsman, Utica, and Proto Los Angeles slip-joints
Next stop, seemed like a long drive down dead-end roads into the country. I paid $35 for the stuff in the next 2 photos:
Two bolt bins. The photo really flatters them.
Cool Stevens Walden 1/2" set, Whitman & Barnes Numbered drill index, additional sockets are an Indestro deep well, Fleet spark plug, and older Craftsman 22mm. The valve spring compressor is Snap-On.
Finally, I picked up the following at a charity sale for $5:
Two Craftsman Pearlitic deep C-clamps.

This morning, first stop. Really oversold the tools in the ad. These came out of the $1 box:

Next stop, seemed like a long drive down dead-end roads into the country. I paid $35 for the stuff in the next 2 photos:
Two bolt bins. The photo really flatters them.
Cool Stevens Walden 1/2" set, Whitman & Barnes Numbered drill index, additional sockets are an Indestro deep well, Fleet spark plug, and older Craftsman 22mm. The valve spring compressor is Snap-On.
Finally, I picked up the following at a charity sale for $5:
Two Craftsman Pearlitic deep C-clamps.

Only one find today. A Beach Toolbox, never seen one of these before, can anyone tell me more about them? It was pretty heavy and all the drawers slide well so I gave him the $25 he asked for it. Really like the color, hard to tell in pics, but it is like a Candy Apple Red. Debating a repaint? Also had the chance to take my son with me to some of his first sales. He will be posting on here in about 20 years with his finds!!

Not really "garage sale" but my mom gave me all this while we were cleaning out her garage to get ready to move her to her new house. Metal parts bin cabinet is certainly my favorite. Going to clean the rust and such off the pliers and tools and add them to the box.
Also found 3 ammo boxes that I'm going to stick a bunch of my practice rounds in. Just need to be cleaned up.

I saw that one but at 3x's the price and twice the distance didn't seem like as good a deal.
But then again nothing screams "ROAD TRIP" like tool buying!!!
I believe I am heading to Livonia to scrounge the last day of an estate sale on Lathers if your interested. It was my Friday stop that netted the goodies.
My garage sale find of the weekend was this nice heavy duty shop dolly/cart. All 4 casters rotate, lock, and have double spring suspensions. All the wheels are undamaged and all the bearings are as good as new.
I figured it's hard to tell the size of the cart just by looking at the first picture, and this is Garagejournal after all, so instead of using a tape measure to show scale in the second picture, I decided to put a Snap-On F80 3/8" ratchet sitting in front of one of the casters. Oh, I forgot to mention the price. $20.

Yes - the cabinet sneered at me when I tried to muscle it up the stairs and out of the basement! I don't have a way to weigh it but it's hefty!
At Sale#1 of the day yesterday I was picking through a Craftsman box taking what I wanted. The owner said take the entire box for $10.00. Deal.
I had grabbed an old Snap On 1/2 drive ratchet, an Indestro Super 3/8 drive swivel head ratchet and a 1/4 Plomb ratchet by that point - so the box itself and the rest were gravy.
I laid everything out and their are various Mfgs in among the bits and pieces. Vlcheck, Barcalo Buffalo, Williams . . .
Now to integrate it with everything I have already.
