The gear in my mac 3/8 flex head rachet stripped its teeth granted the rachet is 20+years old but I haven't seen a Mac dealer in 14 yrs so I purchased the Carlyle version for a replacement will know shortly how it holds up used almost as much as my Ir 231

Toss some lube in it. It's makes a big difference, they come almost dry if not dry.

I think not. There aren't any Carlyle impact sockets but, could change down the road. I'd say you're safe.

I needed a couple of smaller 6-pt sockets a few weeks ago for a minor tractor repair ... my 12-points slipped on the old bolts. Ran to NAPA as it was close and bought them from the Carlyle open stock. Very nice fit and finish and quite reasonably priced.

I was in buying an oil filter today, and couldn't help but to look at the Carlyle stuff. Nice looking chrome on 'em. I was somewhat surprised to see that only the long pattern had the ASD-type setup, the standard didn't. The standards also had the rounded back of the open end (throat, maybe?) versus the angular one of the long-pattern non-slip wrenches.

This particular NAPA didn't have any sets that I could see (I didn't ask, either) but the tools were out where you could actually fondle them.

Was going to buy a single box-end but the one I needed looked as if it had a few handling/shipping marks. It would have undoubtedly been fine, but I'm a little uptight about stuff like that.

This new line does look really nice. Honestly, I would think doing tool warranties with NAPA would be easier than any of the truck brands as they deliver to a lot of shops a few times a week.

True but, it also depends on how well stocked the servicing parts store is along with the closest distribution center. For example, in the current Real Deals Flyer Carlyle is launching a line of ratcheting wrenches. However, when you try to find any, they're none to be had. I think the introduction of the Carlyle line has gone smoothly for Napa. I've only scratched my head on a couple of items like their long pattern zero offset boxed end wrench set skipped 15 and 18mm.
I think the small shops where the tool trucks don't call on but, they have NAPA accounts will benefit the most. I've picked up ratchets, sockets, and wrenches, and I like what I have and the price was right.

Yeah, true. The Napa by my house in Gilbert appears to be very well stocked. My only gripe is the tools are behind the counter so it's kind of awkward to go back there and look at them. God knows I don't need any more tools right now though.

Some don't carry Carlyle. I have two napas in my area owned by the same person. About 10 minutes apart. One only caries evercraft the other one only caries Carlyle for hardline stuff. They also have Irwin and channel lock, along with some gearwrench.

The one that does carry them, indeed they're behind the counter, and a very very good selection.

I just ordered some sockets from a NAPA that doesn't stock Carlyle. The manager said a stocked display cost $10,000 and they tell them that the average payback on the display is $12,000 in two years.

Went to the local NAPA to get a gold air filter for my car yesterday after work, and noticed the Carlyle tools behind the counter. I had never heard of Carlyle, but my interest was piqued - I have been looking for a good long-handled, comfort grip low-profile ratchet that doesn't cost as much as a Matco 88, and I noticed a 3/8 long handled comfort grip with a thin head hanging up there, so I asked about it and holy **** - it was exactly what I was looking for, and it was on sale for $40. I bought it quick. I won't be able to really test it out until I go back into work on Monday but I have a feeling I will be back in to get the 3/8 flex head and the 1/2 flex head... the quality of the ratchet is outstanding. My relationship to NAPA is quickly moving up to the Craftsman level. With the lifetime warranty on Carlyle and the quality... and their availability of rebuild kits and the NAPA name... I have a feeling that all of the Blue Point and Snap-On tools in my box at work will slowly be replaced with Carlyle. I am still new to the auto tech field and (despite using nothing but Snap-On in aircraft maintenance for the last 6 years... and breaking the tools constantly) I have no loyalty towards any one brand. Maybe I'll be a Carlyle guy?

I have always loved NAPA and this just cements that for me. I wish more of it was made in the USA (The website states that they manufacture their tools in the US, Germany, and Taiwan) but I buy tools for their quality and for the fact that they work over their point of origin. It is a global market these days and even if you buy 100% USA made tools you can not know the origin of everything used in the process of getting you that tool - from the ore the tool is made of, to the origin of the equipment used in the process of turning that ore into usable metal, etc. you get the idea.

I just love that a company like NAPA is making their own tools - their own designs - and pricing everything fairly, and then standing up to the tool truck brands. I really hope this goes well for them. I will be speaking with my wallet, for sure.

And if Carlyle somehow gets its own tool truck - it is game over for the other guys...

I see Carlyle now has locking pliers. Since the rest of the line seems to be Taiwan, I hope that these are not going to be rebranded Irwins, though I fear they might be. Maybe made in the same ROC factory as Milwaukee?

Too bad.... They could have used the same design as Blackhawk and had some great cheap locking pliers on their hands. The blackhawks (taiwan) cost about the same as Irwins, and are much better (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009RXXW9M/?tag=atomicindus08-20).

I bought a single Milwaukee locking plier, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be buying most of the line. Much better made than the new Irwin units. I'll pass on the Carlyle VGs...

This. I got a bunch of Irwin Chinese Vise grips for a cheap price. I've decided to stop buying cheap vise grips (even if they are decent like the Blackhawk ones) and just get the best- Grip On.

The proto ones (made by grip on) are very cheap, especially from zoro under the 30% off sale!

On another thread, I had a tough problem getting my hands on a ratchet set, around Fathers Day.

Got in touch with NAPA, and they literally hand held me being able to acquire a set, even after the sale price had expired.

Kick *** customer service, and the tools. . Let's talk about this set!

Exquisite execution on the design, and I have these in the hands of a heavy line tech, and the feedback I've got so far, is that they are durable and become a first grab choice overt the Snap, Mac ratchets in his box.

Carlyle is adding luster back to the NAPA toll line. This set is worth it's sticker price!

I'm writing a article for a national print magazine, about a ratchet comparison for the everyday wrench head, to which Carlyle is a part of my survey.
