Oooooh! I really like the look of that 11 dash in the 66 cab! I was just beginning research on updating the drive train on my old 66 and stumbled across this site. I will be following closely, and might even get adventurous and post some of my process as well. I completely restored my grandfather's truck back in 1995. I did most of the work to make it like original, then, over time, and from lack of use, it has aged pretty badly. Being stored outdoors didn't help. Anyway, instead of buying another vehicle, I was thinking of updating this one with some new stuff. Wish me luck!

A quick update:

Over that past week or so I put up for sale a bunch of parts and a vehicle or 2 that I just did not need any longer.

Trying to raise the $$ to continue both the EcoBoost and 427 Truck Projects.

So far I have raised enough $$ to get going on both projects! Exciting stuff at least for me.

Also in the mix I have found 2 other projects to haul home that will be great additions to my Ford L-M ~ ~ ~ Texaco Service Station ~ Garage.

Garage theme will be 1960's maybe a tad earlier up to around 1970-72 at the newest.

I will keep that quiet until they show up here. A couple dream projects 4 Sure.

Project #1 hoping will be here in approx 5 days.

Project #2 will take about 30 days for me to pick up.

Kind of makes sense for me to keep just the Eco and 427 Projects in this thread and maybe put my other projects in the '70 Truck thread if I can get a mod to change title name.

I finally picked up paint for exterior of shop last week!

Color not close to what the "chip" was but already spent the $$ so that is what it will get. Hope it looks ok. If not I will give it a couple years then re-do.

What an awesome build! I admire your skills and perseverance. My Grandpa had a 65 F100 that he owned since new. He had it 40 years, since he lived to 105. It still exists, one of my cousins has it now. I sure wish that I had it. They really are nice looking trucks.

Well, My newest purchase will be here tomorrow. I have not seen it yet but a few details are in order . .

A pretty much brand new 1966 Ford Truck with ULTRA low miles and it has never been titled or registered!

I have paperwork to show this

I will be able to install a new 1966 Arizona plate with me being first registered owner of truck and license plate.

Soooo Excited!

Pics when I get it home tomorrow . .

This is something I will not have to tear apart but should be able to hop in and drive!

Scooter pics. Not mine . . The white one appears to be a year or two newer than mine.
The green one very close but a few minor differences.

Anyone out there familiar with these scooters? Better yet own one or in the past owned one?

After a lot of digging I finally found the only pic I have of this scooter I was 7yrs old then.

I will scan and post up tomorrow.

The build for the Eco and 427 Trucks will stay here as that seemed to be what the poll said.

My other projects including the new one just bought and my scooter will be in my other thread.

This has been absolutely nerve racking for me to acquire this new piece to my '66 Ford Collection. I was so worried I would miss out on the purchase.
Bought it on February 19th will have it tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the "new" one! But for some reason I think you'll find something that needs touching up... :D

Me make changes? LOL

I can finally post up some pics of my new purchase.

I did not want to give too much info until it was actually mine!

Just bought a 1966 F600 Tanker truck with only 5388 original miles on it.

A very long process to be able to buy it.

In August 1966 a new fire department starts up and makes this as its first purchase. Mostly for grass fire type fires.

It was always kept inside a heated garage since new and only accumulated
5388 miles since then!

The anxiety of this purchase almost put me over the edge . . . LOL

My initial thought was remove the water tank and turn it into a ramp truck.

My oldest daughter who is now going to paramedic~fire fighter school says no way keep it as a fire tanker.

To me I just have this vision of a brand new truck with a old style ramp on the back for hauling my new projects home!

A few pics for now.

The excitement is beyond words right now . . .

Best part is it has never been titled OR Registered!

I will be first Titled~Registered owner. 48yrs on MSO then to Arizona for first title.
How cool is that?

Delivery day is TODAY! Could not sleep past 3am
I will have grooves worn in shop floor until it arrives. Showed up in PHX yesterday . .

What are ones thoughts? Ramp Truck, Leave alone, Flower Pot ?

Awesome truck. ....and that frame is about the perfect length for a ramp bed

Maybe as a consolation for your daughter you can leave it red with the ramp bed....

I told her when I kick the bucket she can do what she pleases with it.

Her daily driver now is a Ultra Rare 1966 F250 Ranger (factory bucket seats)

You've about cornered the market on all the good 66's. It's in good hands. So a Hodges bed, or make your own? :D

That is a fantastic looking truck. They sure don't make them like that anymore. I guess if it was mine I'd have to leave her just the way she is.

I will most likely make my own. I am not good at design but can build it.

This is the scooter I have had for a month or so shy of 50yrs now.

It was bought new by local PD for meter maid duties. That is why it is black and white vs the supposed to be Blue or green

Plan is to restore it to how I remember it to be. This is only pic I have of it from way back when.

here is another scooter dad had.

He also gave it to me but I left it at my brothers place when I moved to AZ and when I went back to get it it and this and black~white one were gone! Neighbor kid BORROWED them. I managed to get the one back but other was completely trashed.

I remember it to be a Cushman Eagle

Note the 13" Falcon tire dad installed on back. It appears to be on a floating hub of sorts off the falcon. Its probably still in the junk pile at neighbors house.

Also note what I remember to be a 1961 Ford Wagon. We had a 1957 Ranch Wagon prior to this one. I remember going to AZ from Michigan, having the 6 cyl (1961 version) burn a hole in piston while towing a trailer. Dad pulled to side of road pulled out his toolbox from back of car, pulled head off, pan off, pulled the piston and started walking back to nearest town to find another piston. A guy came along asking why he was walking down shoulder of road with a piston and rod in hand. He gave dad ride to a local machine shop where they put a new piston on a rod, new rings and gaskets. Guy gave dad a ride back to car where he put it back together and in just a few hours time were back on road.

Thats the ONLY time I recall where we broke down on road . . . Good Stuff! LOL

Has the second 66 shown up yet? An "N" style perhaps?

Always wanted a "N" or "C" cab.

The "other" one was a Wrecker that was owned by a local public school since new. They just retired it.

Because I have enough projects until I am 300yrs old already I ended up passing on the Wrecker project.

I still have my EcoBoost Project, My 427 Truck Project, My 1955 Scooter, Then my 1966 F100 to match my dad's he bought new and also same color combo as the Fire truck along with the Ultra Rare 1966 F250 Ranger for my daughter, Then the Fire Truck to Ramp Truck Conversion.

That does not include finishing up the 1956 Belair or other projects people talk me into.

At this point its beyond overwhelming to get them all done not to mention the
$$ involved and how to pay for it all.

I would not have purchased the 1966 Ramp Project truck as it was bad timing right now but after looking 25+yrs and finding the truck of a lifetime just had to find a way to buy it.

Also in the past year or so have made a good sized addition to my shop to make room for the stuff (1000 sq ft)

Of course I had to sell off a bunch of stuff to pay for that too.

I do not think I have enough left in me to finish the current projects I have in my lifetime. Age is really starting to kick in now as that 60yr old mark not too far away anymore . .

Had a "N" here locally that I looked at. Had been used by a sign shop and the roof was well flattened as it was the last step before the bucket. Didn't see many promising roof donors so I passed on it. Those trucks are some beasts..

What a fascinating read. I do hope the health scare is behind you. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is terrific. Good luck with the projects. Especially the Twin Turbo.

Exterior of shop getting close to done. Only thing in my way now of getting back on my projects is will power and the '56 Chevy.

Did a frame off on the '56 starting back in 1997~98 and it has just sat until a couple weeks ago of course plugging up the little space in my garage. It was fine until the Fire Truck showed up . . LOL

We now have the body & paint to the point we started on the interior and adding a real old version of a Vintage Air system. Tight quarters to hook up.

Hoping end of next week it will go off to the upholsterers.

Friend Mel has owned the car 28yrs and counting and has never driven it down the road. Paint looks pretty good for being 17yrs old.

The front alignment on these cars is not fun when parts do not fit.

Started off with stock original worn out hood hinges, then on to a repo pair, then thought if we stepped up to a set of Ring Brothers hinges it would align. They were 700.00 and pretty much junk. Found out the shocks they use have around 1300 psi of pressure EACH! Too many issues so tried a newer better set of repop hinges and they finally allowed us to get hood to fit.

A few weeks back made some progress installing new floor on the 66 427 Box. Just another hour or so of welding and grinding and it will be ready for primer.

As soon as the '56 goes away plan on bringing in either the eco or 427 truck project.

The 482 in the 66 427 truck has been sitting since 2010 without being turned over or even started for the first time so may lean to that first.

Really really chomping at the bit to get the Eco Project back on track. I have had plenty of time to think about how I want to go about doing that.

Does anyone here know of a place that can make me a windshield 1-2" wider than the stock one?

More soon.

I will post further '56 pics in my other thread and just leave the 2 66 projects here.

Yesterday I did enter the Eco truck in a contest. Last day for sign up is tomorrow. Will see if they will accept my entry in next day or so.

Winner gets 10,000.00 which would really help in my mounting medical bills and allow me to get going on the long awaited projects again . .

I entered this ecoboost project in Coparts contest.

I have been watching for it to appear but has not. Very confusing how they have done this.

http://copart.launchpad6.com/

Only one entry is showing up although there were around 70 entered.

I clicked on the "Entries" tab, and got another screen. This showed up at the very top:

Thank you for your Entries! We are currently selecting finalists. Please come back on July 14th to vote for your favorite videos!

So, I'll go back on the 14th.

Timewarp if I could put my 2 cents into what to do with the tanker.

Keep it as a fire truck put it in local parades or just to a local car show bet there wont be another fire truck at the show.

With your daughter going into the fire/ems field it can be a real special project for you two to work on together.

Keeping it as a fire truck will also give you the chance to rent it out for birthday parties and recoup some of your money.

But I am just a huge fan of fire trucks in general and would hate to see such a beautiful piece of history that has with stood the test of time " cut " up.

Also what kid didn't dream of having there own fire truck.

I know what you are saying. Only problem is the original '66 Rounded style tank is long gone. This tank was a used one off another much newer truck. Its condition just does not match the rest of truck.

If it were the original tank I would leave it alone. Its a not pumper truck and the current tank has no use to me. We have had our fun with it filling it up and watching it empty out 1250 gallons in a minute or less.

It will stay current for quite some time as need to move on other projects.

We still take it out and drive it and have been to numerous shows.

Will post a few pics of different shows we have been to.

Eldest Daughter has now graduated from the Paramedic~Firefighter school and will be getting married in a few months and moving on.

The youngest daughter had to do a report on something in the 1960's and used it for a school project. She enjoyed being driven to school in it . .

Still not a 100% what will be done but would like it to be a ramp truck or a possible old school camper of some sort.

This car hobby of mine has been going on for close to 45yrs now and don't expect it to keep going much longer.
