Out of the garage and into the MSF trailers. I hauled some new meat to put on student bikes. Then I changed 5 levers, banged straight 4 foot peg brackets and changed a tire.

Got the outlets hooked up on the newly covered wall and painted one of the panels to see if the color looked right. Will be finishing up the painting this weekend and I can start moving everything back against the wall.

These were a ton of work but were a fantastic end to a great and productive week! Similar to a 6-color set I did in April '13, this pair have four colors instead.

I've been lucky to have had a hand in many, many fine rides over the years and always have fun turning my customers' ideas into reality, but I gotta confess that these bad boys are sure gonna be tough to box up and send home. :D I'm a big time fan of his color scheme.

There's a ton of pics in this album from start to finish. Even with the advisement of damage on the dog ears -- gotta love that in brand new parts -- he still wanted me to move forward with the work. They'll be living on a '71 Charger in the Chicago area.

Got the first coat of paint on the new wall. Will be doing the second coat tomorrow. Went with a light gray. Once the paint is done I'll start cutting the 3/4" ply for the cleats.

Put an 600 Edelbrock on my AMX and will clean out the Holley 650 that been sitting with crappy gasohol in it. Need to pull the carbs off an drain them when I'm not driving them. I hate gasohol.

Built my third work bench for my shop. Not sure if it will be the final one or not but it was a quick build. This one was quick and simple with 2x4 legs and frame, and a solid core door as a top. Even had help from my 76 year old dad which made it kind of special.

Got the spray foam installed by a local insulation company.

Called up my buddy & we applied the fire barrier. We finished up around 1:30am. So technically it was something I did in my garage today.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Wow, what a day!

I got the new drill press in the shop, cleaned her up, found the motor pulley was reversed (bet it threw belts like crazy like that!) so got that turned around, wire brushed the surface rust off the tables (has the normal post mount plus the one on the foot), and got her put into her new corner. Runs like a monster!

Then started working on my other "garage sale" find - pulled the table off it, again, hit it with the wire brush to remove the rust (you can see the grinder swirls on it again!) and then shot it with about 6 coats of clear lacquer (to protect it from future rust). Opened it's belt guard - *that* one had a reversed pulley as well (didn't this cat go to shop class as a kid?) so turned it around, checked the oil in the crankcase, and fired up the 67 year old motor - and she runs like a scalded cat (tho without the scream!)... Then I went out to run a fence for the chicken run, and lurched the living $#!t out of my back slinging rolls of fence (it didn't feel *that* heavy, but I guess it was, dammit!) - so I'm spending the day flat on my back, living on motrin time waiting for it to unlock itself (**hate** that!!) but catching up here!

Steel, Aluminum and an ocean breeze...

Ive had many boats over the years-all are, well, they're boats. Few years ago son & I bought a new boat, primarily so we could focus on fishing instead of working on boat, mistake one. Its still a boat. First thing I was going to do to it was remove the aluminum step plates from fenders. Were a block from beach-that aint gonna work. But Son talked me out of it, they did look nice, kinda hard to start modding new boat, we can swap later..Well 10 years to be exact...

boatfen1.jpg
Fender mounts cut off.

Knew we had some corrosion problems that went quickly from needing attention to rust bubbling. Removing step plates to clean up discovered way worse than I thought. And closer inspection realized need to come off even if I dont fix. Metal is flaking off like graham crackers, it hasn't moved past the welds to frame..yet. Used a sawzall, sliced off frame.

Spent good part of the day cleaning the welds off frame to get primed, then deal with fenders.
boatfen2.jpg

Wished Id taken a before picture, I knew they were rusting before cutting and removing the step plates- the fenders honestly didn't look that bad. Working them the coating just fell off. Metal flaking like mica. Amazing.

Got online -same mounts available, just folded steel. Decided to make them. I want something a bit more stout. One reason this got put off, the plan is to add another axle- never trusted the single wheel. Forced to address the fenders, making heavier mounts, I can slice off frame, split & section for tandem axles and reweld. Plus they do act as bumpers. Thaz the plan..

boatfen3.jpg
Anyway cut up a 10' piece of 3/16" 3" angle to make new mounts.
Grinding out the 1st step was causing me some hesitation, 3 more to go and this one need a few low spots rewelded.

boatfen5.jpg
When cleaning up fenders to weld mounts hit the tops-hmm gonna need to blast. Stopped to look at replacements. Not sure on axle placement-second guessing not my strong point, did see some bolt ons..

boatfen4.jpg
Plugged in the welder and just continued... one done. Ground out the other mounts, welded to fender. Took to friends to blast them. Masked off weld edges and clamped to boat. Welded them out. Alot of jumping around so as not to tweak frame too much, then seal welding underneath. too much fun. But got it.

boatfen6.jpg
Primed out with some zinc, painted with some Rustoleum beige bed liner, nice very hard and texture like fine sand. Top coated with some Krylon kacki.
I am adding some traction tape.
Mounted lights-done till /if I do the second axle axle.

boatfen7.jpg
Stupid boat... oh well, thats why we have tools.
Now all we need is our local lakes to fill back up.

I got the killed rear end input fixed and the new body work on the dragster from the crash a couple of weeks ago. Painted the dragster to match the pit cart this time. Pretty happy with the result. Just about ready to race again. :3gears:

Just finished oil change in Mrs. Chili's car.
Leanne & Lassen, you two are part of the reason my daughter knows how to use air tools and torque wrenches. Encourage the kids, all of 'em to know their way around tools.

Started at 5:55 am replacing the fan clutch on on my 97 c3500, removed front brakes on a 99 Ram 1500 then took the wheels, hubs and ******** a 7X12 utility trailer. 7:15 am showered and met parents for breakfast by 8. around 11 I was back at the house with pads, rotors and calipers. at 1:30 I was taking the caliper cores back and getting a water pump, Upper and lower hoses, thermostat, alternator, belt and tension-er for the jeep liberty I had just torn down. At 4:30 the trailer tongue jack was the only thing left to re install so a trip to TSC solved that. I would have done less work at work!

Thank you Kent, but I wish my dad was around to read what you said. I became the diehard motorhead I am today mainly because I always loved cars; he built and ran stockers and my only sibling, a brother 6 years older, never ever liked to get dirty. I was the Pit Crew for as long as I can remember and never grew out of it -- I just got worse. :D

Thanks too for teaching your daughter her way around the garage. Her interest may come and go as the projects change, but she can look forward to never being taken advantage of by a mechanic and the personal pride that comes with doing something yourself. Way to go!!! (When she gets a ride of her own please hit me up; I'm a very vigorous supporter of Young Gun and Young Huns and it would be an honor to help her doll it up.)

Well, partly in the garage and part in the master bath, I stoned my bathtub. Airstone from Lowes, individual bricks if you will and a adhesive, not real hard to do and I think looks good.

Got the second coat of paint on the new wall and got the outlets pushed in and covers on. Will start moving stuff back against the wall tomorrow once I decide on a layout.

Finally got my big air compressor hooked back up. After months of garage re-arrangement and moving things for a better layout I can finally stop relying on the portable pancake compressor for basic garage air needs.

Had an old metal shelving unit/parts bin that was sitting out under the deck for a long time. Pulled it out, took it apart and started grinding all the rust and old paint off with a wire wheel. Painted each piece Olive Drab after it got cleaned up... Two sides and two shelves done so far.

No rest for the wicked around here. It's been a very busy weekend trying to finish up the prep in the house for new vinyl floors. I can't recall ever spending so much time on the floor on my knees ... :D ... with the shop vac ...

This week's Powder **** has also proven to be the most popular since I started the FaceBook Fan Page. I try not to work (in the shop anyway) on weekends unless I can help it but most of tomorrow's gonna be spent on my **** answering emails if I didn't. A few of them are from GJ members too :D < curtsey > -- thank you kindly lady and gentlemen! [Oh yeahhhhh I gotta fill out that Alliance paperwork from Ryan too ...... ughhhhhhh where's my clones???]
