have a chance to get one cheap but i hear its like there low grade one[/QUOTE]

I believe that is correct, as in "made in China." Wait for a better deal, unless cheap, is really cheap, AND you need a vise right away. So, how cheap?

you are right it is Wilton's lower end vise compared to their bullet and tradesman series vises.

how cheap? $20, $50 or ??

can you post a few pictures of the one you are looking at. if you need a vise and don't use it as a press you might have a vise to use for life, but i'd still buy a 100 year old one and pay a bit more.

I have one of those Wilton 4500s. I really like mine. It is not the typical cheap Chicom vise. The workmanship is better, the jaws line up well, and the swivel positively locks with "gear teeth". Beat on mine a lot when I got it.

Signcrafter has the Menard's version and he likes his a lot too.

As long as nothing is cracked/broken, the jaws line up well, and the dynamic jaw works smoothly, $55 seems a good price.

Of course the US made Yosts are better, but they cost more.

I have two of them. Good, decent vise for the money, not HF quality for sure.
Done everything I've needed them for.

55 bucks is a decent deal for both of you, buy it. I've got one and like posted above it's not the Wiltons we have at work but it is a decent price. I paid a little over $100 for mine about 3 years ago and have had no problems. I did make a pair of smooth faced aluminum jaws for mine.
